5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: Two year warranty. Works great with Windows XP & 7. I haven't tried 8 but, it is listed as supported and I do not anticipate any problems.

Cons: 192.168.2.2 default IP address.

Other Thoughts: I hooked this up to my old HP LaserJet 4 Plus printer. I used a cross-wire cable to reconfigure the default IP address. I did not install the configuration program but, instead used the web browser to change it. The default user name is "admin" and password "1234". I used the CD program to install the first printer. Then, I looked at the port settings and set all of my other printers manually. It works great with no problems.

5 out of 5 eggsworks great after manual setup

Pros: Once you get into it and reset the ip address it works great. Easy to use, talked to my ancient HP 520 immediately eevn though I am using windows 7 (64)

Cons: The ridiculous ip of 192.168.2.2 makes life difficult. Contrary to other comments 192.168.0.1 is the ip of most routers I know. Until you change the ip of the server, it won't talk. I couldn't ping it! To change address: either temporarily change your router ip to 192.168.2.1 OR use a crossover cable and connect it to a single computer whose ip is changed to 192.168.2.1 (preferred). Connect to the server (as admin, password comes up in text) and change the ip to a static value (of whatever your router prefers. I used 192.168.0.10) Mask 255.255.255.0 and the ip of your gateway (probably the router) You may have to tell the router about the static ip. Once your done, save the changes and exit. In windows, pop in the cd and install as per instructions.

Other Thoughts: After doing the windows 7 printer install (use the port that the server sets up) I immediately printed a test page. The old workhorse is back in service!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Print Server

Pros: Not quite plug-n-play but with a trial and error was able to get it to work on an old HP1320 laserjet, in XP professional, Windows 7-32 & 64. The main thing is to change the default static IP address from 168.192.2.2 to 192.168.1.xxx

Cons: None

2 out of 5 eggsDunno

Pros: Small, inexpensive can utilize older parallel port printers.

Cons: Couldn't get it to work with a Brother DCP7020 via Comcast's SMC D3G-CCR even in Win7-64.

Other Thoughts: Also not user friendly in non-Windows environment.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Solves USB networked printer hassles with Windows. No problems setting up if one is familiar with TCP\IP.

Cons: Not a con for me, but it's not Plug 'n' Play. So expect to work with you on your router and workgroup computer settings.

Other Thoughts: If you're a novice to networking, this would serve as a good learning experience, but patience will be needed.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with HP4L and Win7 64-bit

Pros: Very configurable.
Works with old printers.
Works with Windows 7 64-bit
customizable IP address
Once the Printserver is setup and configured, driver quickly finds the printer.
It works across networks: My wired network has different IP address than my wireless network (different routers, different IPs, but connected). My wireless laptop found the print server which is on wired network.

Cons: Fixed IP set to 192.168.2.2 out of the box (bad), but you can configure it to any IP address you want (good), or set it to auto configure (better). But and this is a big BUT, you have to set your router to 192.168.2.1 (which is default for 99% of routers out there) for the Printer server to work AND no other device should be using 192.168.2.2.

Other Thoughts: If you are novice, then you probably have your router on default settings, so everything should work right out of the box. When installing the print server and hooking it to network, make sure no other computer or hardware is hooked up and running (except the router which should stay on). Once you hookup and power the print server, then you can turn on other computers and equipment. Why? Because probably some other device is using 192.168.2.2 and print server won't work if other devices are on on initial setup. Another Plus: One driver for all windows OSes and it automatically installs correct drivers for 32-bit / 64-bit OS.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Choice - Works Great!

Pros: Connects to system quickly and easily.
No problem with print speed. (Speed is usually a function of printer memory).
Doucumentation on CD is good.
Using with Windows 7 Ultimate both x86 and x64.
Printer is HP LaserJet series II.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Default password is displayed on login screen.

I have always had good results with StarTech products.

2 out of 5 eggsVery slow over the network

Pros: Allows you to connect your printer to LAN.

Cons: This server is very slow over LAN. When I want to print more pages (10+) it will print two pages then stop, after a few seconds it will resume to finish printing. I guess it has not enough memory.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked great!

Pros: Installed and configured in under 5 minutes on Vista Ultimate with an old HP LaserJet 2100.

Cons: The user interface on the server config utility could be a bit better (it still has a Windows 95 look to it) but as long as you understand the basics of how print servers work, you shouldn't have any problems.

Other Thoughts: You have to look in the user guide under the non-windows section for the default password.
