can I use this item with XFINITY CABLE?

I use Cox cable, with my own Arris SB6141 modem. I just plugged the modem output into the Internet input on the router and it worked fine. Download NetGear Genie as it makes it much easier to setup. I would be genuinely surprised if it does not work with Xfinity cable. Give it a try, if it doesn't work, return it.

Is this device password protected?

Yes, it is password protected on both the wireless (wifi) and wired (Ethernet/LAN). The wired side has a default password common to all devices. The wireless side should have a unique SSID and password per device. This N300 is a pretty dated device for a wireless access point. I would purchase something more recent with 11ac.

Simply, "yes." To elaborate, if you desire such info, your Chrome & Mac should have an industry standard wireless-N WI-FI transceiver built in, or, if neither device HAS a WI-FI transceiver built in (that's hard to fathom at this development point of our accessibility driven society), surely there will be a hardwired NIC that will accept an industry standard RJ45 jack so you can run a cable from the router to the device(s) NIC port.  Which brings me back to the beginning: your Netgear  WNR2000 is capable to connect you to anywhere you want it to connect, through any device you want to connect.

Hello,I am interested in this router but need to know if it will work for me.  I have ConCast cable internet with NO phone, so I don't need the phone connection.  I do need wireless and Ethernet cable capability.

I have currently the rented unit from Comcast: Arris TG 862.  It works for my needs, but I have heard that I don't need all of it's capabilities, and that a less costly unit would work fine.

This is for residential use, but occasionally there are 2 computers on at the same time, one using the CAT5 cable interface and the other wireless.  The current speed is 3.52 Mbps down and 1.02 Mbps up.

Can you help with my decision as to what least costly router will work for my need?

I have Comcast too and this Router worked great and the wireless was plenty fast for our needs and took care of an acre lot. It hooks right up to smart phones set up to find a wireless router connection. BUT...it is a "N" router and Comcast upgraded their signal to allow for the new Dual-Band AC+ routers. I switched and the difference is quickly noticeable. I picked up the BELKIN F9K1116 AC 750 DB Wi-Fi Dual-Band AC+ Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n. But their are high rated AC's here in Newegg that are half the price.

DOCSIS 2.0 OR 3.0?

neither. DOCSIS are standards for a cable TV service and data streaming over the same copper wire. The Netgear wnr2000 doesn't connect directly to your service provider's cable. This is a 10/100 data modem for internet access. it also supports wireless speeds b/g/n which are data transfer rates of 10/54/108 Mbs per second.

I have a WNR2000-100NAS that frequently drops off line. It seems like it's too unsteady. Can I uninstall it and reinstall it with the original setup CD?  Will this solve the problem?  Hans

First check all cables to and from the unit. If your cable coming into the modem is old this will have a big affect. Contact your service provider to check system coming to you and make sure your modem is current to your service capability. If this doesn't work I would return it. Updating my modem and cable took care of it all for me and I am very happy with the strength of this unit.

Hi, This Router has the signal needed to connect anywhere in my home, this is important to me to be able to work anywhere normally. So far it is the best Router I have used and I have used 5 so far. I was even able to connect last summer from my backyard which was a plus,didn't expect that to happen. No disappointments with the Router, enjoy.

No, this is not a modem... only a router.  you will have to get a separate modem.  This router hooks up to your modem, and then creates your wireless network.

You need only get a SuddenLink compatible MODEM. The router goes after the modem and connects your devices. It doesn't really care WHO is your ISP. The router only cares if you want to connect your Local Area Network (LAN) devices via a cable or radio (Wi-Fi).
