1 out of 5 eggsThis is Junk

Pros: None that I can think of.

Cons: Doesn't work.

Other Thoughts: This worked for a few months, and then, one by one, the ethernet ports died. Now, one port works sometimes, and the 802.11 is unreliable. It's a few months out of warranty, so I'm stuck with it. Maybe use it for a paper weight, or run over it with my truck.

I'm surprised Netgear would put out such a flawed product. There are so many online posts about this problem that one would think a recall is in orider. I'm also dismayed that Newegg continues to sell it. They both ought to be ashamed.

1 out of 5 eggsruns hot

Pros: at first, i was impressed, pretty easy setup

Cons: i read the other reviews about how it was running hot, didn't pay much attention to them, bad mistake!
although the lights flicker on the front panel, it means very little, the wired port on the back don't work any more, hard telling when the wired ports failed, 6 month ago i bought a wireless card for my pc thinking the lanport failed, i just relized it was a
the router

Other Thoughts: i wonder how many dgn2000 users have bad wired ports on their router and don't know it?

3 out of 5 eggsHot Hot Hot w/ Wireless on!

Pros: Fast for the Range, easily maxed.
Wireless N faster than hard-wire connection.
Configuration tools seen only on some of the most expensive systems.
For the price, the safety offered and the capabilities....this unit may not be beatable.

Plugged right into Qwest DSL service without issue

Cons: Had to replace once.
I found that running the wireless continuously runs the heat to unbelievable levels.
A physical Hack and a fan would correct this, as is now; I turn off Wireless unless I have friend family or group gaming.

Customer service was easy and there is an affordable option to get the

Other Thoughts: I would appreciate seeing a 1000Mbps model of this unit, with the latest n speeds, and a better cooling solution.

Would I recommend the purchase of this unit to friends and clients?
Only so long as they know exactly what the issues are and how they will have to be dealt with.

4 out of 5 eggsI got stands with mine!

Pros: One box; less cables keeps spouses happy!
I did get stands in my box. Purchased at brick-and-mortar. Haven't touched it in at least 6 months. Wizard was a no-brainer. Sit back, let it do its thing. Set up 3 of the 4 SSIDs so that friends could come over and mooch some 'net and not interfere with my Netflix. QoS sets limits on visitors who Torrent. ;)

Cons: Did run very hot and have DHCP issues and drops when I initially fired it up. I had it flat like all the other stuff. But.. I went online to Netgear forums and the consensus
was to at any cost, stand it on end. It seems awkward when you have some wired connections, but it runs very stable now.

Other Thoughts: Except for brief resets due to ATT physical upgrades, or power outages, I powered it down about a year ago. I do wish it was Gigabit, or NAS ready, or compatible with U-verse. If it lasts to the end of the extended warranty (November 2011), I will have no regrets.

1 out of 5 eggsIt Is Hot - Literally

Pros: Customizable QoS
Works well when it works.

Cons: It's too HOT!
Because of heat issue (with the latest firmware), it is hot!
Plus the package doesn't provide a vertical stand, it has to lie on the surface, which worsens overheating issue.

Everytime it gets too hot, mostly LAN ports and occasionally wireless connection would malfunction. Although a quick restart would fix the problem temporarily, but it just happens too frequently to reach an unacceptable rate.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy it.

1 out of 5 eggsEthernet ports dead < 1 year, No stand included, $100 heater.

Pros: Wireless works great.

Cons: Ethernet ports totally dead after 8 - 9 months.

Heating issues can be severe, and since it does not come with a stand mine had to be propped against a wall, making the presentation look terrible.

Other Thoughts: I doubt I will ever be buying another NetGear product. Tired of their overpriced cheap garbage burning out.

How cheap does NetGear have to be to sell a $100 modem without a stand?

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: All in one box is convenient. Nice piece of hardware while it worked.

Cons: Unit gets very hot. Ethernet ports started getting flaky after a few months. Now they are totally dead.

Other Thoughts: I thought maybe I just had a bad unit but apparently the overheating and wired ports going bad is quite common. The DSL modem and wireless components still seem to work fine, but a router isn't much good with no working ethernet ports.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat while it works..

Pros: Small Footprint, price.

Cons: Like a lot of others who use this modem...be prepared for the wired ports to stop working and for the unit to get HOT! My ports stopped working today, 1 day inside of warranty...hopefully they warranty this item...sucks that i have to return it though. I may just buy a new modem / router and say a big NO to netgear from now on.

1 out of 5 eggsPoorly Designed Junk

Pros: Looks snazzy? Didn't burn my house down? (Yet.) Isn't out chasing the neighborhood kids down with my lawnmower? (Knock on wood.)

Cons: Like other reviewers, I've had all the switch ports but one stop working -- and the one working port occasionally drops out. The problem is definitely heat-related and undoubtedly terminal.

The modem section is also iffy, with multiple dropouts (many per day) on a solid DSL line.

It's my belief that these problems should have been caught long before this junk went to market. It's my belief that Netgear knew -- or should have known by any reasonable standards of care -- of these problems and chose to sell the modem anyways. It'd be nice if Netgear would admit their mistake with this nasty mess and offer something in the way of an upgrade credit to existing users. As it is, I'm on Newegg surfing for a new modem -- something, I think, without a Netgear label.
