1 out of 5 eggsExtremely Frustrating

Pros: Gigabit. It's grey.

Cons: I have a few of these, bought expressly for the ssl vpn functionality. I've been on the phone with tech support for an hour and a half so far trying to make this work, not including the two days with tech support a month ago trying to make the first one work. They claim it works from their end, and I have yet to see this work EVER on my end. There's a PDF document, but apparently it's incomplete. They log in to the router and fix something and don't tell you what they did to make it "work" on their end. They had me uninstall firefox twice. So far, this thing is no better than a $100 router from anyone else.

Oh look. The call disconnected. Again. Now I wait for them to call me back. Again.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy-- No Licence Included

Pros: Comes in a nice box and has good sales info to describe what it can't do without a license

Cons: The unbundled version does not have a license key that will allow the unit to update it's threat management capabilities past the 30 day trial period. Using the Netgear Digital store hosted by Digital River gets you a $260 charge for a registration key that they never give to you. The Netgear support is no help since it's not a hardware issue and their download partner doesn't have any phone support, and the email support is a useless runaround.

Other Thoughts: Great idea, but they shouldn't even sell a product without the license key.....

2 out of 5 eggsMight be OK for a home network

Pros: Nice feature set, easy configuration via web-ui, fairly reasonable subscription price.

Cons: Terrible UI performance, inability to upgrade firmware without valid license (this item from NewEgg does not include a license, it must be purchased separately). Unacceptable loss of network WAN-LAN throughput.

Other Thoughts: I really wanted to like this product considering the price point of competing UTM devices. I set this unit up with a very basic configuration - just as a basic router with content filtering and malware detection enabled for a network of 30 PCs. Right out of the box, connected to a laptop for config, unit status showed 100% CPU usage, and UI was painfully slow as could be expected. After a few reboots, this issue seemed to go away. After firmware update to latest version, UI performance improved. Internet traffic slowed WAY down with this unit running with content filtering and logging enabled. Also have the 100% CPU issue back. It works much better with these featured disabled, but then I could have purchased a Linksys router for 50 bucks to do what this unit is now doing for me. This is my second and final bad experience with Netgear (former was a Prosafe router) I will never deploy another Netgear device on one of my LANs.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Just to clarify. The "NAS" part of the model number relates to "North America", not "Network Attached Storage".

Cons: Too bad it doesn't have a NAS server in it. It would've been the perfect firewall.

still no idea what the usb is for i thought it was NAS but i dont see any setting for it..

Cons: Not the best manual
You have to pay for a monthly subscription for the av and other scanning programs that are built in
only a 2 year warranty

Other Thoughts: its taken awhile to setup
upgrading firmware wasnt to bad.
Vonage is still not working even with forwarding the ports.
i even opened it wide open to the vonage router and nothing. 10000-20000 and 5060-5075... nothing...
waiting on firmware update to see if it corrects the problem.
Or for Netgear's support to get back to me.

still no idea what the usb is for i thought it was NAS but i dont see any setting for it..
