5 out of 5 eggsWorked perfectly!

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS N300 with 4 Port Universal WiFi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: Using this to extend a network to cover an entertainment room. Client didn't want to bother with running a cable/switch so we linked this to the existing Netgear wireless router. Press the WPS on the router, press the WPS on this unit and poof. Done. Can't be any easier than that.

Cons: None that I encountered, but I'm sure it has limitations that may not work for everyone.

Other Thoughts: This was setup to wirelessly connect devices that didn't have wireless options to the wireless router in the computer room (approx 25 feet distance) Namely, a Direct TV receiver, a Pioneer 7.1 Receiver, a Sony Bravo 4K TV and the 4K player. (TV has wireless, but we wanted to free up some of the bandwidth). Also connected to this unit wirelessly to the Sony BD player and the A. Fire. So yes, this little box is supporting 6 multimedia devices, 4 with cable, and 2 wirelessly. And it works great!

1 out of 5 eggsRequires Almost Daily Reboot

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS N300 with 4 Port Universal WiFi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: Second wireless network and four wired ports

Cons: Drops connection (requires reboot) almost daily

Other Thoughts: I'm a software engineer who works from home. I bought this device to both extend the wireless network in my home and provide wired connections in an office away from the main router. Unfortunately, the Netgear WN2000RPTv2 drops its connection almost every day, and the only way to fix the problem is to restart the device.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst piece of hardware I have ever purchased.

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS N300 with 4 Port Universal WiFi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: None really. I guess the fact it powers up is a pro.

Cons: Spotty wireless connectivity. The device rarely allows more than one device to connect to the wireless. Fortunately, the Ethernet ports on the device work so if you want to use it as a wired router, you're in luck. In order to get any wireless networking from the device, I had to pigtail a Dlink wireless router to its Ethernet port and connect to its wireless. The web interface for the device works when it wants to, but that is a rare occasion (usually after rebooting the device). I do have the most recent firmware installed on the device and it is no help at all. If you are thinking about purchasing this device, change your mind and run (don't walk) away from this choice.

Other Thoughts: I rarely post reviews, but this device is so terrible I felt the need to get the word out to warn others. I purchased this device while it was on sale at Staples, will not purchase Netgear products again. And I used to be semi-loyal to the brand.

2 out of 5 eggsMeh.

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS N300 with 4 Port Universal WiFi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: Affordable. Easy to install.

Cons: Constantly shuts itself off. The unit worked well for about 4 months, then started having an issue where it would randomly disconnect, so I would reboot it, and manually reconnect it (via having to run the setup tool again). A few months after that it started randomly shutting itself off. Unfortunately it would seem that this is a common issue with the product, otherwise I would just order another one.

Other Thoughts: It really is very easy to set up, just gets tedious having to run through that setup twice a day when you want to use it.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsSoSo

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS N300 with 4 Port Universal WiFi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: I have owmed 2 of these and the first one is still going the second lasted a liitle over a year and a half.

Cons: I wish the second on would have lasted a little longer.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Reboot,

We can't apologize enough that your second extender doesn't seem to work any more. Please let us know if we can help!

What exactly is wrong with the extender?

Does it power on-- which LED lights show if it powers on?

Feel free to post any questions or concerns on our forums at forum1.netgear.com.

1 out of 5 eggsAlmost works

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS N300 with 4 Port Universal WiFi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: Works sometimes, wall adapter is nice, box is pretty.

Cons: Drops connection and disappears every week and must be rebooted. After a few years of this it finally quit connecting at all. I can connect to the repeater, all lights are green but still no connection. The Netgear forums are of little help, many people are having the same problem with the only recourse being to return it or tossing it in the trash.

We have a lot of Netgear equipment and resell networking solutions but fortunately we haven't resold any Netgear equipment to any of our clients and after dealing with this nightmare of a product I'm so glad I'm not on the customer support end of this junk. Even the Netgear forums show the support staff being very short with their customers.

People often spend hours or days, perhaps weeks, troubleshooting this thing. Do yourself a favor and get something that works, it's not worth fixing something that's only going to be a problem later. There are workarounds for some problems for sure, but how much is your time (and sanity) worth when you can buy a competitor's product?

Other Thoughts: This was dumped in my lap as part of my job and I personally would never had bought it in the first place. I don't have a single piece of Netgear equipment in my house and now I never will. The fact that they have a damage-control robo-trolling feedback with cut and paste responses might be a clue.

Manufacturer Response:

We thank you for your detailed and honest review. If you have any other question, feedback, or concerns please do not hesitate to let us know. You can email us at newegg@netgear.com. We want nothing more than for you to be a satisfied NETGEAR customer and can't apologize enough for your frutrations.

NETGEAR Team

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS N300 with 4 Port Universal WiFi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: Seemed to work for a little while with little use.

Cons: We recently changed data plans on our companies cell phone plan and the usage went up because we wanted to use our wifi to eliminate cellular data use. This repeater has to be restarted multiple times daily. The signal strength is 85% so there is no reason we should be losing connection ever, let alone every couple hours.

Other Thoughts: I would not buy a repeater like this one ever again.

4 out of 5 eggsEasy set-up, works

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS N300 with 4 Port Universal WiFi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: Plugged it in, went to my iPad, switched wifi to NETGEAR - EXT and was greeted with a setup page with a list of available wifi networks. I selected my existing wifi network, entered my password, and it did its thing for a few minutes, and I was connected to the Internet. Speedtest showed a loss of speed from tests conducted at the routers using the iPad app 6.2 to 5.8.

Cons: I bought this because I was having connectivity problems with my Dish Network ViP722k. I had lost connectivity using the Powerline adapter, with Dish Network's proprietary and pricey USB wireless adapter, and now a wired connection from this Netgear repeater. Using the repeater, I've had the best luck. It seems no much how Internet you throw at the Dish receiver, it still has issues. I've tried it with just the USB wifi adapter, the Powerline adapter, the Netgear repeater, and all combinations of two or three of these adapters, the Dish receiver just says no at times. I've had three of these receivers fail, and the problem persists, so this Con is more directed at Dish. Just a Con for this being unable to overcome Dish's problems, which isn't really a Con for this device.

Other Thoughts: There is no reboot for this device via an Internet browser, which I think is a major oversight. I installed this thing where getting physical access is going to take enormous effort. At least I left the AC adapter accessible, but it's no substitute for a proper reboot. I hope a firmware update brings this feature.
