1 out of 5 eggsVery Unreliable Router

Pros: When it works, it's great. Two WiFi nets at 2.4, and two at 5 GB/s. Great coverage in my house.

Cons: But, when the firmware gets corrupted, without warning, and for no apparent reason, it's a pain to bring back to life. By now, I have a copy of the firmware stored on my iMac, and the TFTP app at the ready, so it's a matter of resetting the IP address of my iMac manually and TFTP-ing the firmware to the Netgear. Takes about 20 minutes, and I'm back in business. But, the first time around, it was an absolute nightmare. I had to rig up another standby router to d/l the firmware, and I had to search around for a TFTP capability. Finally found one for my Win7 netbook, not having known about the TFTP shareware app for the Mac. Netgear's instructions for the Mac are incomplete--virtually worthless, just like their [non-]support. They offered an olive branch for my similar review elsewhere, but it was all smoke and mirrors. No follow-through at all. So, imagine driving a car that stops dead without warning, and you have to get out and change the solid state engine control module.

Other Thoughts: I just wish that there were some brand of high-performance router that is reliable and for which one can easily obtain competent support. I guess that Apple's Airport is the only such around,

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing performance

Pros: Easy to set up , is doing service in a Apartment building over the beach with 90 % retired people with high demands in service a reliability, this replace a 150n Linksys . .

Cons: Nothing at all in the past 4 months

Other Thoughts: The building is a 40 years old , when the construction was real massive ,not the modern and light components today.
This router go to all over the lobby ,social saloon , and we install a extender for the Pool

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality

Pros: Was great while it works.

Cons: Owned the router for a little over 3 months so it put me just outside the warranty period and now the router starts having issues. It quits functioning about once a day and has to be turned off and reset to get back up and running.

Other Thoughts: Avoid this router, look into other brands, this product obviously is not good quality.

2 out of 5 eggsRotten Router

Pros: On the 5G works fine, when it work. Works for only three months.

USB share works for small drives.

Bad design. Terrible device

Cons: The router's performance is awful. The speed on the 2.4Ghz frequency work for about 3 months on the guess and regular network. The wireless network fail to connect, the modem was functioning properly while the router fail to connect. The wired and wireless devices could not access any network resource thru this paper weight.

The features are not that good. The Open Source Support is not available, very bad. I do not found any difference in speed between my old router and this paper weight, except that fail in less than a year.
The Repeater option never worked at all. The USB share do not load over 1TB.

Other Thoughts: Not recommend for an upgrade. Not even the new one. This model is a lemon.

2 out of 5 eggsAC 5Gig died 30 days after connected

Pros: Worked Great, for a month

Cons: AC stopped working all together after 30 days.

Other Thoughts: Maybe this was why it was sold as refurbished. Likely the last guy had the same problem

4 out of 5 eggsPurchase only if you are comfortable with tftp or simple line commands

Pros: $80 with rebate, can't really beat the features for the price. I've deployed 11 other units that require very lille maintanance, if any, once the latest firmware has been installed.

Cons: Older firmwares which can frustrate IT novice users with the "blinking green power light". This is my 8th unit that had this problem right out of the box; other 4 units were fine out of the box, and 8 out of 12 units "bricking" right out of the box is pretty terrible by any standards.

Other Thoughts: I was extremely surprised that my "factory refurbished" unit came with older firmware that immediately "bricked" to a non-functioning state the first time I powered the unit up. I would have expected that Netgear would ship with newer firmware that is not prone to "bricking" to avoid having to refurbish the unit yet again.

4 out of 5 eggsGood router but needs some tweaking for best performance

Pros: Good range. Supports DD-WRT

Cons: OEM firmware lacking in some areas. Can be a little slow transferring files wirelessly to attached USB.

Other Thoughts: Was looking for a router to stream content from an attached USB hard drive across the network. I wanted an easy method to stream XBMC content. The OEM firmware does not work well for this type of setup. I have a 4TB single partition hard drive formatted to NTFS and the R6300 could not recognize it.

I knew the latest DD-WRT was updated so it would recognize 4TB hard drives so I got rid of the OEM firmware in favor of DD-WRT Kong build. Once DD-WRT was installed the R6300 was able to recognize my 4TB GPT hard drive and I was able to set up a Samba share in the DD-WRT settings which worked well with XBMC.

With DD-WRT the router overall works really good. I haven't needed to reboot, it gets good signal strength and works well for my needs. Really the only thing negative I see at this point is its a little slow transferring files from my computer wirelessly to the USB drive attached to the router. I'm guessing some of this is related to the router having a USB 2.0 port instead of the faster 3.0

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfect for Me

Pros: This is a follow up review of the R6300-100NAR. I bought this router last December. I was worried after reading reviews that I might have problems with it.
I powering it off a Cyberpower UPS.
So far it is flawless. I get 5 bars (Max Level) at the far end of my house. That is a distance of about 85 feet through two concrete block exterior walls. My house is a T shape.
Netgear Genie is really easy to use. On Christmas day with all the relatives here the Genie showed me I had 12 connected devices with absolutely no problems. Everyone was impressed with their signal strength.
I would definitely recommend this. I bought the extended warranty just in case but I don't think I'll need it.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: At half the price of a new one refurb is the way to go.

2 out of 5 eggsSo far not so good...

Pros: - I like the look of it, I know it turn off for others
- Excellent range
- Excellent speeds on wireless, when it works :/

Cons: - Only 1 so far, but its a biggie. The wireless will just stop connecting to the internet. The SID shows, devices can connect, but those devices will not be able to get out to the internet. Each time we make sure internet is working by connecting directly to modem via cat5 and it always does. Only solution so far as been to unplug, wait 10 sec, plug back in and wait for it to boot up

Tried contact Netgear, but since it is refurbished you have to go through special portal on their site. After filling out the form about 5 times and never being able to finish it due to problems on their web service I gave up.

I would return it to Newegg, but it doesn't appear they cross ship and this is needed for work things. I can't afford to send it back and just wait.

Other Thoughts: If the wireless problem can be fixed, it would be a 5 in my opinion. Not having consistent wireless is HUGE problem though. Will update review if things change.
