is this unit a modem router combo?

No. It is dual band. I have had mine for 2 years without the slightest of problems. Have only rebooted maybe twice in that time.

unfortunately it is the v1 ...... also the wireless setup worked but none of the lights worked .... not enough to bother with returning and then apparently it got zapped by lightning (several other electronic components were zapped)..... I replaced it with a Nighthawk.

Which item will I receive the V1 or V2?

This refurbished model is V1.  Sure, you could pay twice as much for a new V2 - that has a slightly faster dual core processor, twice the RAM and a USB 3 port.  I did a lot of research and the specs on the V2 just did not justify the extra $.

I upgraded the firmware, did a manual configuration (I did not use Netgear's software) and swapped it out for my old router and it worked like a charm from the get go.  Amazingly better range and speed in the 2.4 ghz range.

Overall, an excellent bang for your buck and I highly recommend it.

I am looking to replace the (Comcast) Xfinity Gateway Router and upgrade to 802.11ac. Does this router have a phone connection as well?

It definitely does not have a port for a phone line, but it does have an ethernet port to connect to, for example, a motorola surfboard modem, if that's what you're looking to do.  That port by the way comes in addition to a 4-port gigabit router and is used to act as the gateway, sharing the internet connection to those 4 ports, plus any wireless connections.

Is this V.1 l?  I'm told V.1 is compatible worth DD-WRT but not V.2

You are correct this model is version 1 [ 1st generation ].
If, the specifications state this compatible with DD-WRT. 
That would be correct, because i have not set this router up. 
i may sell or give this unit to a relative and get the 2nd

it is v1.  I bought it while on sale and had 0 issues with it, more than good enough for my family and I!
v2 has 1 usb 2.0, 1 usb 3.0 and a faster processor.

What is the input voltage on the power adapter as i plan to bring it to uk which is using 220v/240v?

100 to 240V

The other nice thing is that you don't need to fiddle around with adapters, all you need is a standard PSU cable.

This model is version one. Version 2 has a USB 3 port which for the price difference, I settled for usb 2.
