Finally, a wireless router designed for gamers. Linksys' WRT330N is a black on black tower that could either be your router or alien technology from a game made real. The three antennae on top are for the revolutionary Multiple In, Multiple Out (MIMO) technology that uses multiple radios to deliver coverage and range like you’ve never seen before. It’s fully compatible with 802.11b/g technology but it really flies when used with draft-N adapters, pushing data through at up to 12 times that of Wireless-G.

The included Network Optimizer applies various Quality of Service (QoS) techniques to maximize overall network performance. It prioritizes packet delivery for gaming, both local and online, and VoIP calls so game play and conversations are smooth as silk. This applies to both wireless connections and to the four wired Gigabit connections.

It should go without saying that data security is of extreme importance. Linksys included an SPI firewall and 128-bit wireless data encryption to keep you safe from attack from local data thieve hijacking your signal and malicious programs from the network.

  • newegg Wireless-N With Wireless-N (draft 802.11n), the farther away you are, the more speed advantages you get. The LINKSYS WRT330N dramatically increases the throughput by doubling the radio band when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, yielding up to 12 times the speed of standard Wireless-G (802.11g) products. The router works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipments as well.
  • newegg Gigabit Network Connection The LINKSYS WRT330N features 4 Gigabit LAN ports to provide up to 10X faster speeds than most 100M network connections and excellent usability for office networks.
  • newegg MIMO Technology MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) technology uses multiple radios to create a robust signal that travels up to 4 times farther than standard 802.11g products and reduces dead spots.
  • newegg Wireless Security The LINKSYS WRT330N Router encodes all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 128-bit encryption to help protect your data and privacy. It can serve as your network's DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass-through. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility.
  • newegg Connects with Centrino The Linksys WRT330N provides seamless wireless connection to your Intel Centrino Mobile-based notebook for accelerated file transfer speed, uninterrupted steam video enjoyment and faster, smoother net gaming experience.

5 out of 5 eggsyou just need a little time

Pros: I have been doing this a while now and this has a great setup and good security filters without dragging down your connection speed. pair it with a linksys card for best results.

Cons: At first it is hell setting up the small complexities but when its worked out then it smooth sailing. The originals like i have were glitchy on firmwares and linksys tech help worked out my problems with a flash update they had but im sure that newer ones already have the newest updates preloaded.

4 out of 5 eggsNice and Geeky

Pros: Lots of features to mess with.

Cons: Lots of features to mess with.

Other Thoughts: v4 firmware is better, finally. no 3rd party f/w as it's not supported on this chipset or something. v5 beta f/w is flakey. wish they would have spent a little more time with this as it's a decent router but too flakey for newbies. almost too flakey for me as it takes a real sweet spot to work properly (aka pita).

Pros: Read Cons!

Cons: WARNING! Do NOT buy this router if you plan on having it anywhere near you. I purchased it from Newegg and received my first one a week ago. After hooking it up, everything was great. Then the noise started. This thing emits such a high pitched noise that if you're next to it, you will want to leave the room ASAP. I contacted Linksys and of course they said its not an issue with the model, and I must have received a defective unit. So, I contacted Newegg for a replacement.

I received my replacement from Newegg today, and after leaving the router hooked up for 5 minutes the noise started. I am contacting Newegg tomorrow for a refund!

2 out of 5 eggsProbably not what you think

Pros: Looks cool. MIMO. Wireless N, if you use it. Bought it from Newegg so I still got that warm fuzzy feeling when it arrived the next day!

Cons: This router is advertised as being able to improve QoS for gaming, but it really has no more features or configurability that the WRT54GS/GL. Don't buy this product because you think it will reduce gaming lag, XBOX Live or PC. Only buy this thing of you have to have gigabit LAN ports, wireless N and a shiny black case.

Other Thoughts: The QoS features are primarily reserved for wireless connections, so again unless your gaming rig is wireless just go with one of the better routers on the planet, the WRT54GL. Much much cheaper too.

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute Garbage

Pros: IF it works, it is fast.

Cons: Ever since I have owned this router it has had a habit of simply forgetting that it will support HTTPS connections for management. The only solution is to reflash the firmware with the same version and then it will work again for a little while. Now the router has just forgotten that it supports WPA or WPA2. No settings have changed in 9 months, yet suddenly none of my 4 wireless capable computers can see it. If I set the wireless security to OFF or WEP, it shows up instantly.

Read Linksys' own forums on this product and you'll find it is junk. Avoid it at all costs!

Pros: Quick set up. Backwards compatible. Great speed. I do a lot of online gaming through xbox live and I usually have a very strong signal w/out any lag.

Cons: I was unable to set security code b/c it wouldnt finish set up when I chose to apply a 16-bit code. For some reason I suddenly couldnt find the internet yet I was able to get online.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Newegg.com customer support is awesome.

Cons: DOA. The Ethernet ports did not work. Linksys tech support is the worst. On hold for 45 minutes and then was hurried off the phone only to call back again.

Other Thoughts: Going to consider Netgear.

2 out of 5 eggsDead @ 6 Months

Pros: Management interface seemed easy to use and configure, however no built in pre-configs for any popular games/devices. Device looks cool I suppose is a pro.

Cons: Wireless connection was inconsistent and would cut out on a weekly basis for the first 6 months. After 6 months the Wireless started dropping on a daily basis then soon hourly. Also, the LAN side would drop and not be able to connect to the device. This required constant power restarts of the router. I then upgraded to the latest firmware and the problem continued. I then decided to reload the default settings and now I can't pull an IP or connect to the device any longer.

Other Thoughts: Router was in a well ventilated area and powered off of a voltage regulating Smart-Ups. Router was also ran 24/7.
Look elsewhere for a gaming router if you want stability and longevity of a product.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable.

Pros: Replaced my WRT54GS which had 7dB high gain antennas. My remote PC would get 1-3 bars on a good day. I would go weeks without any connection.

Now, my remote PC with it's Wireless-G PCI gets 3-5 bars, Strong Signal, 54mbs.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I have not experienced any of the problems the other people complained about. The router came with the newest firmware installed.
