1 out of 5 eggsGarbage out of the box

Pros: Simple setup, cheap device

Cons: Probably will die within 30 days. Not much customization options. Occasionally needs a restart for no apparent reason.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these to use in a medium sized building. One died, the other needs to be restarted occasionally because it will stop allowing connections at random. I had planned to flash ddwrt onto these devices when I had some spare time, but one bricked itself before I even had the chance to try it out. Unfortunately I missed my 30 day window to get an RMA.
Don't buy these pieces of garbage, even if you want to flash custom firmware, they'll probably commit suicide anyway.

5 out of 5 eggsthe best

Pros: It just works. Great range, excellent throughput, easy to configure. Stone cold reliable.

Cons: none that i have found

Other Thoughts: I have had this one for about 10 yrs, used daily, no downtime or dropped connections whatsoever. Can't say the same for my D-Link N router which has given me problems from the beginning. It cost 2x as much but drops connection hourly.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding value and quality for the price

Pros: We bought this 15 months ago when our prior router died from a lightning power surge. Primarily we decided on the WRT54GL because of the great reviews, but were a bit skeptical with the low price. WOW! This router has been amazing! It has worked flawlessly. Great features and security. Great signal distance (In fact as good as our prior much-more-expensive router's signal reach). I would definitely buy this again and would highly recommend it to anyone else with no reservations.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This review was not posted earlier as we wanted to really put this router to the test. Now, 15 months later, it's proved to be the best router we've ever owned. Thank you Linksys and Newegg!

5 out of 5 eggsGood Basic Router

Pros: Works with Windows 7 and Windows 8. CD installation is a snap. Was up and running in a matter of minutes.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Was using a Netgear 600 N router, but it kept dropping signals and causing problems. My husband just needs to access the internet and read emails. Got this one when it was still on sale. So far so good.

2 out of 5 eggsSub-par wireless

Pros: Setup CD is easy to work with

Cons: Horrible range. Inadequate for my 1200 sq ft centralized rent house. I think I'm going to have no choice but to buy another for our larger house. I'm so unhappy with its operation in other ways that I won't bother just supplementing the network's range.

Does a pretty poor job with some smart devices if they've gone to idle, and they regularly have to be reconnected. I also find the router has to be reset frequently even for the devices that connect well to it. This wasn't the case with my previous router.

Other Thoughts: I do not recommend this at all. Just don't. I'm shocked by the positive feedback for this router, which is the reason I chose it. I've since found this is the same router my father has, and its range is equally atrocious. My previous one of 8 years was far better. Not worth nearly the price paid. It'd frustrate me if it were free.

5 out of 5 eggswrt54gl

Pros: Feature set, price, reliability

Cons: Nothing major. No wireless N

Other Thoughts: I use these routers as Wireless Access Points probably more than as routers. Flash with DD-WRT, configure wireless network, connect to network and that's it. I've spent a lot more on other access points only to run into compatibility issues, needing to reboot etc. This device, especially when flashed has proven to be super reliable. Range excellent as well. Wireless G only, but that's not really a big issue. At this price, this router is hard to beat.
