You just got your high speed modem (it's cable, DSL, fiber optics, something nifty), and you've got your computers, and you've got your wireless interface cards. Now we need the final element: the router.
With four wired ports and the wireless connection, you're ready to take on the Internet and all it has to offer. Or maybe you just need a local network off the 'Net for your small office. Maybe you'll hook your desktop up by cable, and carry your wireless laptop to your favorite sitting spot. Control and configuration are easy with browsers like Internet Explorer 6.0, Firefox 2.0, or Safari 3.0 (or newer). (It's best to do your configuration from a hard-wired connection, not the wireless.)
Could this be the router for you? Could be. That's your decision, not ours.
Pros: Nice appearance. Sleek and small foot print. Advanced setup. Would be a good choice for maybe a 2 bedroom apartment or small office.
Cons: My setup is highspeed broadband cable internet. WRT54G2 DOES NOT have the effective range of a router with external antennas. Bought this router to replace an old Linksys WRT54G router with 2 external antennas. My installation was in a mid size house with basement. The router was in the middle of the basement against the back wall and the computers on the top level in the far bedrooms. Distance from router approx. 25' and 8' down. With the new WRT54G2 my signal was 20% less and speed was variable. I returned the WRT54G2 and bought another WRT54G with external antennas. I now have full signal and full speed.
Other Thoughts: Whatever router you purchase, if you have a large area make sure the router has at least 1 external antenna. If does make a difference.

Near Worthless
Reviewed By: Joe on 6/30/2008
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Small.
Cons: If you have a medium sized home network running six computers, this router is not for you. Its TCP connection cap is roughly 512, and this is completely unacceptable. Running bittorrent (to include WoW's updater) will annihilate this router, eventually causing it to lock up, and requiring a powercycle.
Other Thoughts: If you're the only one using this router, I suppose it wouldn't not be so bad. For the average house of geeks, forget it.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: -Works well with ICS and dial-up (Something my old Belkin couldn't) -Setup Program was very easy to use -Lots of security options -Stylish
Cons: My only gripe is that the setup software doesn't work at all under Win7. I set it up with Vista, so I didn't have a problem.
Other Thoughts: Word of wisdom: Download Windows XP mode from the microsoft website or set it up on another computer.

Power cycle nightmare
Reviewed By: WM on 11/13/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: The easy setup lulled me into thinking this was going to be a quality product.
Cons: This unit will not operate for more then 30 minutes without it power cycling itself. At first I thought the wireless connection was dropping due to the unit's poor coverage (see most of the other reviews for more on that) but then I watched the WRT54g2 repeatedly reset itself. The power light starts flashing, all the wireless and wired connections stop working, the power light goes back to steady state for a few seconds and then the unit power cycles again. This series of events lasts about 30 seconds before it starts working properly.

Wireless Beware
Reviewed By: Blehza on 11/5/2009
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Very easy to set up, works great if your computers are directly connected through internet.
Cons: Very short signal range, loss of connection with wireless.
Other Thoughts: If you just need a router for basic use, connecting computers with ethernet then this router works great. I was 1 room away from the router and I kept getting connection loss. Avoid this if your wireless device is in a separate room.
