Linksys AC900 Smart Wi-Fi Router (EA6200)

Wireless-AC offers gigabit Wi-Fi speeds that allow you to download and stream video and music files without lag time.
Access and control your home network from wherever you are using your smartphone, tablet, or computer.

Wireless-AC for Faster Speed and Reliability
Upgrade your wireless home network and enjoy faster speeds than conventional Wireless-N using the AC900 Dual-Band Smart Wi-Fi Router from Linksys. This router offers Wireless-AC technology, which delivers a faster, stronger Wi-Fi connection ideal for online HD video streaming services. With speeds up to AC900 Mbps (N300 + AC565), Wireless-AC provides gigabit Wi-Fi speeds that allow content to download faster. Wireless-AC makes it possible for you to stream shows on your HDTV while family members download music or other files—without interruption due to a slow network connection. The AC900 includes a USB 3.0 port and four gigabit ports to let you connect multiple devices, allowing you to quickly print, share, and store content across your network.

Beamforming Creates Stronger, Faster Connections
The Linksys AC900 Smart Wi-Fi router features beamforming, an innovative technology that optimizes the wireless signal strength between your connected devices and Linksys router. Beamforming enables the router to identify and connect directly with other devices, rather than simply sending out wireless signals in a general direction. The result is faster network speeds, better wireless range, and reduced interference from other devices. It also helps extend the battery life of connected devices and reduce their power consumption because data is transferred more quickly.

Manage Your Home Network Remotely with Linksys Smart Wi-Fi
With Linksys Smart Wi-Fi, you can access and control your home network from wherever you are using your smartphone, tablet, or computer. For example, you can set parental controls to restrict Internet access during certain times of the day and create unique, secure Wi-Fi passwords for your guests. You can also monitor activity on your home network, add new devices, and check upload and download speeds. In addition, Linksys Smart Wi-Fi allows you to prioritize which devices on your network receive the most bandwidth to reduce lag times and buffering when you're streaming HD media or gaming. Your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account also gives you access to of apps that provide additional ways to control and interact with your home Wi-Fi network. Block the Bad Stuff lets you add one of three levels of protective filtering to help safeguard your wireless network. Device Monitor allows you to monitor game consoles, tablet computers, and other devices, while NetProofer lets you restrict access to certain websites.

Upgrade Your Devices to Enjoy the Full Benefits of Wireless-AC
Using Linksys's family of Wireless-AC peripherals, you can take full advantage of the improved speed and stability of Wireless-AC. Linksys Universal Media Connector lets you connect wired devices such as game consoles and smart TVs to your Wi-Fi network and stream HD or even 3D HD video content. The connector operates on the 5 GHz band, resulting in less interference and a clearer signal. Additionally, the Linksys Wireless-AC Mini-USB Adapter (AE6000) makes it simple to upgrade your laptop or desktop computer to Wireless-AC technology.

2 out of 5 eggsStarted Good, deteriorated quickly

Pros: Was very fast and had decent range originally.

Cons: Quickly degraded in performance and range. Starting out, this router blanketed my whole house with great speeds. After about a year, the speeds crept lower and lower and the range diminished such that I could only connect at 5mbps in a room just 15' away with no metal obstructions. Had the same issue with two previous 'high end' routers from the same manufacturer. Will never buy a linksys product again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: Great router, plugged in, configured with ease, and had no issues with Xbox One, PS4, or any other devices.
All NAT types show open, get this if you play games online.

Cons: None so far, still up and running.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY

Pros: I would say cheap but if it doesn't work right it's not a Pro

Cons: This Linksys EA6200 is a very bad Wi-Fi router. I got it to replace and old Netgear router I purchased from Newegg years ago. The signal strength on this Linksys is terrible I go more than 10 feet away from the device and I lose signal plus the signal keeps dropping. It will work for a few minutes the drop and my wireless devices have to reconnect making any kind of web surfing, movie streaming or anything else for that matter impossible. I reset the device several times trying to make it work for my needs but this device was horrible.

Other Thoughts: I put my old router back is place and it worked 10x better, I haven't bought Linksys in several years so I thought I'd give them a try, will never buy them again after this.

2 out of 5 eggsSo much promise but such a letdown

Pros: It works

Cons: Dismal WiFi range
Dumb interface
No opensource firmware (e.g. DD-WRT)
Power brick is rated for twice as many watts than my old router,
I'm guessing this thing is pretty hungry.

Other Thoughts: I thought there were no bad WiFi routers left in this day and age. I was wrong. Certainly didn't expect it from a Linksys/Cisco product.
How can a WiFi router be bad at WiFi? It had one job... Yet, this thing has the worst WiFi range of any router I've ever owned in the last >10 years.

To add insult to injury, this router has an impressive spec sheet for the price. Gobs of RAM and flash, Broadcom chipset, GbE, USB, 802.11 ac. So much promise... If only I could replace the dumb, awful, stupid stock firmware with a nice DD-WRT build. No. Not an option. It's such a pity to see all this (presumably) nice hardware go to waste.

1 out of 5 eggsNot even one day

Pros: Decent speed for the price

Cons: Dropped connection after 4 hours
Could have cooked an egg on it

Other Thoughts: 4 hours after setting this router up, it dropped the connection to the modem. Instinctively, I touched the top of it to see if it was hot. The grey "band" was almost hot enough to burn me. I grabbed the side and picked it up to feel the underside. The grey band was hotter underneath than it was on top. The vents on the underside was putting out the small amount of heat you'd expect when you touch a router. I had it right side up on a nightstand, next to my modem, and the modem wasn't hot at all.
Maybe this is just bad luck and I bought a bad router, but after reading all the negative reviews for it I think mine just kicked the bucket more quickly than others. That's lucky for me considering the store I bought it from has a 30 day return policy. (I didn't buy mine from NewEgg but I hope my bad score helps others stay away.)

1 out of 5 eggsModerate Dissapointment

Pros: Provides wireless access for mobile devices

Cons: PC is connected by ethernet cable, router continually drops the connection resulting in "cannot find web page" errors over and over and over ... loses webcam connection again and again. Have to remove wireless router and connect LAN directly to cable modem to use web cam. You get what you pay for.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy-peasey

Pros: Easy to install. Paired to my HDTV and my BD player that are about 50 feet away on the first try. Smart TV apps never pause to buffer. Extremely pleased with all aspects of operation.

Cons: None.

2 out of 5 eggsNot "SMART"!, Why call it SMART Wifi?

Pros: Looks pretty (but no brains)
It functions (just the basic configurations)

Cons: Fee based App marketplace
Bridge mode handicaps "SMART" WAP capabilities
LAN-to-LAN mode limits WAP internet connectivity
Crippled WIFI speeds in LAN-to-LAN "mode"

Other Thoughts: After almost 6hrs on the Belkin telephone tech support system (I, know, long story) I finally got a suggested solution to enabling MAC filtering in Bridge Mode from the Supervisor of the call center... That suggestion was to take the EA6200 out of Bridge mode to a static IP "LAN-to-LAN" configuration. Oh great!, that allows MAC filtering and web-based UI configuration access on the LAN segment, however the EA6200 WAP can lo longer directly access the internet!

So that means...

No more "SMART" features:
No one-button check for firmware updates
No access to fee-based marketplace app addons (not a big loss since I probably won't purchase an "app" for a home WAP anyways) ...

AND worse of all, traffic to my LAN and the Internet for Wifi connected clients has significantly reduced speeds!

Very disappointed! If this is the best Belkin engineers can do with the recently acquired Linksys line it's time to look elsewhere!
