This is just a router the service must come from a cable modem or elsewhere. There is a USB 3.0 connector for backup HD and other RJ-45 for direct connection to home network devices, plus a strong wireless signal. Great for wireless connection to HD entertainment equipment.

Does this work with Verizon FiOS?

Not really sure, but don't know why it wouldn't unless they have restrictions on using  router. I have comcast with no restrictions. Awesome router though. Had  mine about a year works flawlessly.

Will this system handle two land lines and two cell phones plus a highspeed internet . . .?

If you are asking about VOIP phones along with some kind of Bluetooth linking for your cell phones the answer is yes most definitely I have five computers two tablets my two line VOIP home phone system and Bluetooth cell phones linked all to my home wireless network using this router no bottlenecks and no slow downs streaming videos or playing games

I have one wireless desktop new i5, two old P4's, One dual core laptop, one tablet and one Iphone. When family comes in added to the mix is 3 more iPhone, and one ipad. Plan to add wireless outside camera and one of Xp is in work shop within 75 ft of router.
the wireless desktop is used for allot of video work.
Is this the router for me to handle the work load or is there another suggestion you can give?

We have 4 computers and 1 xbox 360 wired in, then we have 4 laptops, 2 tablets, 3 android phones, 2 smart tvs, and 1 receiver on wifi.  Works fine.  I actually have more problems with comcast then I do with the home network.

I have Centurylink ISP, how can I know if this will work with them? And secondly, why wouldn't it?

Yes, any WiFi router will work, since they use standards... but you will need to know how to set it up depending of the  Centurylink modem you have.
You might need to change the IP address last digit (192.168.1.2) on the WiFi router before connecting it to the modem to avoid conflicts. Also you will need to turn off DHCP. Turning off DHCP on the second router prevents conflicting IP addresses.
The Ethernet cable should be connected from the LAN port on the main modem-router to the WAN port on the WiFi router.

I'm looking at using a smart router like this and a USB portable drive plus ethernet-capable drives (WD My Book) instead of a NAS unit.  This has more access control.  Initial cost is about the same for 8TB.  The advantage with the router is that I don't have to match drives, so if there is a fail, I just replace one and re-sync/backup with another.  My goal is to consolidate the portable HDDs/flash drives, provide storage for our 3 computers...PCs and an iPad..., and stream movies and music.  Any suggestions?

You can only add 3 systems or services to the QOS on this router.  If you are talking about more than that then I would look at another option.

I have a quick question about internet bandwidth and downloading/surfing with this router.  I bought this in order to upgrade a Linksys router that was 2-3 years old.  Ever since I did, any download, no matter how fast/slow it is downloading, is using almost all of my internet bandwidth.  Until the download finishes, it is very slow to surf the web and if I test the DL speed, it is next to nothing.  I have played with the settings but I cannot stop Firefox from using all of the bandwidth whenever I download something.  Thoughts?

It should be noted I use Firefox for my web browser.

That shouldn't be happening.. Can you do a bandwidth test and see what your provider is throttling you too?  The bandwidth test should provide two setting, an upload and a download. This measurement should match what your paying for. There are other setting to check but this is the first step.

Does this router  have DD-WRT ?

No.  If you're familiar with this firmware you may check out their forum.  Looks like thus far EA6500 is the only one out of the 6xxxx series for which dd-wrt is available.

Question 10

Looking to hook multiple wireless printers compatible with AirPrint to this router as well as desktops hooked with wireless adapters. Using a DHCP reservation for the printers, this should work right?

this router has a much stronger signal. I get 70-300 mbps. several computers in the house at once going with no slow down. but the distance from router is not that great. I have concrete block and the house is 50 years old...well built

this is attached to a Motorola sb6141 modem with Comcast as provider. every few days I need to unplug and restart the modem. I don't mind....
