If you've got more than one computer in the house, sooner or later, you'll probably need a local network of your own. And if you've got a gamer in the house, they'll want all the high-speed bandwidth they can get. Time to get a router where even the wireless runs at 108Mbps.

With four wired ports capable of running at 10/100/1000 Mbps and optimized for the gaming fan's needs, this router can feed your greed for speed. Not into games? Well, it should still do fine for heavy bandwidth applications like distributed video, while allowing your laptops the freedom to roam wherever your lap goes. The reverse SMA antenna is also removable so you can change it if you need to.

Is this the wireless router for you? Only you can decide that, but remember: we'll be waiting right here when you've made up your mind.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router

Pros: This router has been with me for almost 3 years now and the performance on it is still great. Also has alot of features and a nice set of settings to use.

Cons: no cons that I can think of.

2 out of 5 eggsLasted long enough

Pros: More features than any one person could hope to use for home use (possibly more dorm functional).

Cons: I am constantly having issues with this router randomly restarting, resetting settings, dropping connection. Talked to tech support multiple times with no luck. I have never had so many problems with a router than with D-Link. I promise you this is the last of this brand I will buy after this experience.

Signal strength is pretty weak. I live in a 1,800 sqft house and unless I am within 25 feet of the router, I get no signal. I bought signal extenders and repeaters to remedy this. The extender antenna did minimal.

Other Thoughts: Stay away

3 out of 5 eggsworked great, for a while

Pros: Clean looking, easy to access to ports, triple antenna broadcasting. D-Link support via phone was quick to answer and helped me step by step over the phone. Only took 3 minutes with the D-Link tech, and all 4 computers in my home had connection. Big thumbs up for D-link support.

Cons: After about 5 months of great operation, my wife and I noticed that we would suffer brief loss of connection from our computers using the wireless portion of the router, while my son's computer, which was wired directly to it suffered no such loss. Our "brief disconnection" would only last 5 seconds, but the interruptions became more frequent. Another call to D-Link support concluded that the router was not working properly.

5 out of 5 eggsBest

Pros: It has been fast and good with my gaming. The bandwidth I get while playing games = no lag.

Cons: Well some one did hack into the wireless which is my fault for having it on WEP and not making it WAP.

Other Thoughts: If your a gamer like me, and hate lag then this is what you need!

2 out of 5 eggspower cycle it often

Pros: Works well when wireless is not taxing it. Good wireless range reaching well outside into my driveway and backyard.

Cons: Wireless lags out world of Warcraft and YouTube if even one connected device is moderately downloading or streaming

Other Thoughts: Have to power cycle this at least four times a week or else I cannot traceroute anything past the cable modem. The web interface also won't respond until it power cycled as well

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy This Router

Pros: It's black and its got a display that you'll never use.
It has a 5GHz radio that you'll never use.
The wired switch part seems to work ok.

Cons: The wireless is totally unreliable.
D-Link has abandoned the firmware. There have been no updates in over a year even though there are known problems with the current version.

The 5GHz radio is cool, if every wireless device you've got 5GHz capable and the distance isn't too far. But, in the real world you need a 2.4GHz radio for distance and legacy support. I spent the extra thinking it would future proof me, but it was wasted money.

Other Thoughts: A recent change from running wired 99% of the time to running wireless 100% of the time, brought the ugliness of the DGL-4500 wireless to a head. If you look at one web page at a time it will do OK, but if you have multiple web sites open and refreshing at the same time and a Netflix stream, the router will hang. With this router running wireless you can just forget about having a happy household.

I've upgraded the firmware, fiddled with settings, rebooted several times a day and finally gave up and started researching what might work better. Bottom line, save yourself the grief and do not buy this router.

5 out of 5 eggsBest QoS router

Pros: Awesome at prioritizing your bandwith.
Has hundreds of different priority numbers to assign, unlike most QoS routers that only give you 4 different priorities and will conflict if more than one device is assigned to the same priority option.
You can easily stay connected via ipad or iphone to adjust settings in router setup page on the fly while you walk around your house and test how different settings work for you.
I get absolutely no lag anymore playing call of duty on my ps3 while i tested 4 other devices streaming hd netflix, and 2 other computers still surfing the net fast all at the same time and still giving 90-95% of my bandwith on the surfing computers.
Really incredible i think.
i did not even expect it to be that good.

Cons: The wireless range really stinks.
We have a decent size split level house, and used to keep the old L*****s router running dd-wrt under our bar, on the bottom level, and got signal everywhere in the house.
this dgl-4500 has to be on top of that bar standing up with the antennas angled just right to reach most of the house. there is a couple dead spots when the weather forecast is raining. one on second floor by a big bay window, and one on third floor by a bunch of big windows.

Other Thoughts: I was skeptical of buying this with all the d/c issues i read people having. I took a chance because i know there can be a lot of variables with router signals and am somewhat familiar with them. mine came with 1.21na firmware, and i did not upgrade it if that helps anyone. also i disabled the option for the router to check for firmware upgrade. also disabled the logs. and you get the best signal with wpa2-aes.
i did not use the setup cd i just logged in with my ipad.
there is good help forums on dlink website to help set up gamefuel and forward ports. i have really been testing this hard with multiple devices streaming video while gaming and surfing for almost 4 weeks now without having to unplug it at all. and actually for almost 2 weeks now i even have my old l*****s with dd-wrt set up to it wirelessly as a repeater bridge on my top floor that works great and guarentees a good signal everywhere anytime if the dlink signal is not great.
i can not comment on wireless gaming, i onl
