2 out of 5 eggsDelt with this from Optimum Online

This review is from: D-Link Wireless AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit Cloud Router (DIR-868L)

Pros: Different Looking
Free by Cable Provider
Got me motivated to buy my own router.

Cons: Drops Wifi Constantly
Freezes consistently requiring multiple resets per day.
Range drops quickly
Outperformed by older and cheaper models

Other Thoughts: While I did not outright Purchase this product, I did put up with it for several months, including exchanges by my Cable provider. While initially Excited since I was getting a high speed .AC router that excitement crashed like a sugar high. My router is stored in an Alcove in the stairwell in my basement centered in the house. Yes, I know that would potentially give it range issues already but with prior B, G, N routers pushing the basement, mainfloor, and top floor with no issues, I set it in the same place as its ancestors. Right off the top I noticed the range was less as it dropped down to 1 bar at the upstairs rooms which used to hold 3 with the N, the furthest room also struggled and people had to move inward from the living room closer to the kitchen to get reception on laptops. After a short time maybe a week, the freezing and signal dropping started. Multiple Exchanges were done with Optimum getting the same model each time. Had a technician come to the house due to an a different issue and got his opinion on the new D-links Optimum pushed and said he was not a fan. D-Link had a bad batch of them that are still in circulation and causing issues all over and the fixed ones were not much of an improvement. He switched out the 868L with a SageMcom router which solved the issues of freezing and random drops. Still had the range issues tho.

Yesterday I got Dragged to everyones hated big box store by the Significant other, and seen Bunch of routers on Clearance. While one not to normally get electronics at it I Picked up a D-Link Ac750 Dual Band Cloud Router DIR-810L and got it setup in the same place. It pushes the entire house and to the outerrooms and upstairs pushing 3 bars. A $40 normal price router outperformed this $189 one.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat range!

This review is from: D-Link Wireless AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit Cloud Router (DIR-868L)

Pros: I've owned close to 20 routers in my own home, and this by far has the furthest range of all of them.
- Range
- Simple menus
- Has a mobile version of the settings page for easy calibration on a mobile device.

Cons: This is where I'd say it's expensive... but I got it on a sweet sale ;)

Other Thoughts: Time will tell how reliable it is.
I install routers and internet for a living so I deal with them all day although usually just cheap ones. The range is fantastic with an average N300 routers 2.4GHz band I would get 1-2 Bars on the other side of home whereas this one gets full 5 bars on 2.4GHz and 4 bars on the 5GHz band. With another AC1700 from trendnet i couldn't even pickup the 5GHz band on the other side of the home!

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Waste Your Money

This review is from: D-Link Wireless AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit Cloud Router (DIR-868L)

Pros: You can create up to 4 different wireless zones for use 2 @ 2.4Ghz and 2 @ 5.3Ghz.

4 ports for 1Gbp connections for LAN

Cons: Reliability for wireless connections is very poor.
Wireless zones will occasionally stop functioning, you have to do manual power downs in order to get them to come back, but even then they will stop without notice.
Logs setup is not even worth the trouble even when you configure the logs to be emailed to you they will not.
If any issues do occur the logs are useless the only collect the very basic thing to let you know everything is a okay It does not collect warning or errors.
With every firmware update be prepared to do a restore of your configurations.
Support for the device has went for okay do to very very poor way to go D-Link.

2 out of 5 eggsLast D-Link product I'll ever buy

This review is from: D-Link Wireless AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit Cloud Router (DIR-868L)

Pros: Good speed, good range

Cons: Terrible documentation and support

Other Thoughts: It seems like D-Link couldn't be bothered writing accurate documentation for this product and is ending support in 2016. Annoying timeout of the web interface, and missing functionality like the ability to release a lease, make this product annoying to deal with. D-Link's support has also declined to the point of being useless. Their simulators were very helpful. Not any more, there is none for this product. I am highly skilled in networking so I can work around many of the flaws but I won't be buying another D-Link product.

1 out of 5 eggsNever a solid connection

This review is from: D-Link Wireless AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit Cloud Router (DIR-868L)

Pros: Feature list is very long, and the marketing spin of what they promise is impressive.

Cons: It was just never stable as a wireless device. And the issues it had on the wireless front (especially with Samsung Devices) caused the device to become unstable.

I removed the device and moved on.

Other Thoughts: Note: My standards are very high, and I know a lot of about networking. So you may be fine ... but there are issues with DLink and Samsung as it relates to WiFi security settings. They have been around for a long time now... and I get the impression no one is interested in addressing them.

Manufacturer Response:

We want to thank you for the feedback as we value the comments and concerns and we are sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with the product. D-Link suggests that you perform a factory reset (by pressing the reset button with a paper clip for 10 seconds) and then download and install the latest firmware from www.support.dlink.com. If that does not resolve your problem please contact our technical support team for assistance by calling 1-877-453-5465. Thank you for choosing D-Link.

1 out of 5 eggsbought 2, 1 failed in 2 months, sad sad tech support

This review is from: D-Link Wireless AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit Cloud Router (DIR-868L)

Pros: good list of features, reasonable price, aesthetically pleasing.

Cons: bought 2, 1 failed within 2 months, replaced the router immediately to get system back online. Contact D-Link for RMA. D-LINK tech support by far FAR the worst. Insisted I hook it back up and go thru their list before even considering an RMA. No RMA unless you go thru their checklist. I might be more tolerant if any other vendor had ever required the same. BTW, I replaced it with an ASUS router. The few experiences I've had with ASUS tech support were all 5 star.

Other Thoughts: I cant speak to the quality of the router. I bought 2, 1 failed. That's 50%. I gave the other router to my grandkids for their college dorm. I wont install another D-Link in a critical application. If a company produces good equipment, it's a shame to lose customers due to poor tech support policies. I've got over 30 years working with this stuff. This is one of the more memorable experiences--negative.
