5 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfectly

This review is from: D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N300 Router, 4-Port Switch, DD-WRT Open Source support

Pros: I've been using this router without issue for a couple of years, and I love it. From the opposite of the house, I get full wifi signal strength and blazing fast speeds..

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I can connect to this router without issue (full bars) from anyplace in our house, and our house is not small.

To the people having connection issues, simply enter the settings menu and increase the signal strength a bit. Bam, problem solved. This router is excellent...

1 out of 5 eggsIt's Flawed

This review is from: D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N300 Router, 4-Port Switch, DD-WRT Open Source support

Pros: I wouldn't know of any....

Cons: Like many you will find I also have the same dangissue where the router keeps losing signal and then ti's back a couple mins later.. Just enough to screw the connection on a game or movie. Happens all day long 5 or 6 times a day. This router is trash and D-Link should be ashamed for shipping it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little router!

This review is from: D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N300 Router, 4-Port Switch, DD-WRT Open Source support

Pros: It's got everything: Wireless N, 4 port switch, and DD-WRT Support. Small and reliable. Easy set-up.

Cons: Not the fastest, but gets the job done. The DD-WRT installation can be a little confusing, but not too bad.

Other Thoughts: I use this router as a wireless bridge running DD-WRT. It works perfectly and is fast enough for the stuff I have connected through it: TV, Xbox, HTPC, and Pioneer receiver. For the price you can't go wrong.

4 out of 5 eggsdrops connection

This review is from: D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N300 Router, 4-Port Switch, DD-WRT Open Source support

Pros: Does what it's supposed to do and I really like the push button setup or Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS). It's very easy and convenient to connect wifi devices and computers by just pushing a button on the side of the router.

Cons: I like this router except for the fact that it keeps dropping our connection. Sometimes it'll drop it a few times a day; other times it'll be a few days before it drops the connection again and that's very annoying when you're in the middle of doing something. I ended up replacing this router with a Linksys WRT54GL due to it having the highest and best rating on this site and it's under $50.

Other Thoughts: If it wasn't for the connection drops I wouldn't have any problems with this router. The only thing I'm going to miss is the push button setup but I'll take not having connection drops over WPS any day.. I've had my new Linksys router for 2 weeks now and have not had any problems with it.

2 out of 5 eggsDrops and Droops

This review is from: D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N300 Router, 4-Port Switch, DD-WRT Open Source support

Pros: It was inexpensive and easy to set up with DSL. It generally works if you're patient and using a devices with really good WIFI.

Cons: The most frustrating thing is the frequency of drop outs. All of the sudden, it goes deaf. It also always recovers within a minute, but that's annoying. Also, the signal strength is really quite poor, especially for phone WIFI. My neighbor's WIFI has way better signal strength in my house than this box.

Other Thoughts: This is my first really bad review of a product. I can usually make anything work good enough. Sorry, this one has got to go.

2 out of 5 eggsBarely functional

This review is from: D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N300 Router, 4-Port Switch, DD-WRT Open Source support

Pros: As a router, using the factory firmware, they're fine.

Cons: I bought these specifically for the DD-WRT support. I was able to install DD-WRT on both, but both reboot randomly when using DD-WRT with the default settings. I've tried multiple firmware versions with the same result. The reboots are random and there's no logging information available to indicate the cause of the problem. One reboots every 15 minutes on average; the other goes a little longer, about 3 hours between reboots. I've tried other power supplies, settings, everything I can think of to make them stable and nothing has worked.

These are junk for use with DD-WRT.

Other Thoughts: Mine are DIR-615 I1.

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of Junk

This review is from: D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N300 Router, 4-Port Switch, DD-WRT Open Source support

Pros: Nothing other than it comes free with a moto sb6141 3.0 modem.

Cons: It is piece of junk. It makes you manually restart it every 10 mins if you ever download anything at any speed.

It is not my ISP(cox) that causes the restart because the connection is live when i remove the router out of the network without restarting anything in the network.

Other Thoughts: No free lunch.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsUnacceptable

This review is from: D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N300 Router, 4-Port Switch, DD-WRT Open Source support

Pros: Only 1 month of par transmission is not exactly a positive...

Cons: Downward spiral in connection (radio) dropouts from rarely to weekly to daily to hourly to constantly in a period of 4 months total use. As I type, dropouts every 5 to 10 seconds, lasting 3-5 seconds each. Rev. E3 purchased new, flashed & discerningly setup with DD-WRT. Completely useless, unacceptable hardware.

I ignored matching reviews, paid the price, which thankfully was not retail. Unrecoverable hours wasted on troubleshooting & frustration. Simply close this tab & find a higher quality router, that's all there is to it.

Other Thoughts: The DIR-655 has served faithfully for years. I should have known better than to buy the DIR-615; cheap garbage.

1 out of 5 eggsRevision I1 of this device is useless

This review is from: D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N300 Router, 4-Port Switch, DD-WRT Open Source support

Pros: Cheap, OK for simple Internet usage with undemanding applications and patient users.

Cons: With stock firmware, couldn't stream uninterrupted audio to my Wi-Fi VOIP phone. Another router does so flawlessly. With DD-WRT, reboots or locks up every couple hours no matter which revision is installed.

Other Thoughts: The I1 hardware version should not be listed (by dd-wrt.com) as having DD-WRT support. That version is what Newegg has been shipping in the timeframe of this review.

1 out of 5 eggsyou get what you pay for.

This review is from: D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N300 Router, 4-Port Switch, DD-WRT Open Source support

Pros: cheap.

Cons: WiFi portion very unstable using either latest stock firmware or DD-WRT.

Other Thoughts: If you pump massive amount of data through the router after a fresh reboot, within 6 hours, your WiFi becomes very unstable. Devices connected to the DIR-615 would get disconnected and reconnected constantly, making the WiFi unusable for anything other than reading email with an app. If your online activity on that device requires any "real time" continuous connection, this inexpensive router is not for you.
