4 out of 5 eggsNetwork setup tricky but worth the $$$$

Pros: Stable and works well with HP LaserJet 6MP and Mac OS 10.X. Web interface straight forward (remember to click "save" after changing settings). Was able to update firmware easily however package requires a reset back to default factory IP address.

Cons: Tricky to setup if a network newbee. Beware that the print server IP address is manually set to 192.168.0.1 by the factory (big customer service oversight specification by the FW engineers) If you don't know what the means and you're not familiar with your private network setup (managed by a router) do not connect this print server directly to your network. This will likely cause the network to go down because of conflicting IPs. Also experienced some printing errors because the interface is default set to fast. The slow setting resolved all by print error issues.

Other Thoughts: If you're computer NIC IP is set DHCP with a gateway address of 192.168.0.1, you will need to disconnect your router from a network and manually setup an IP for the NIC to another IP (i.e. 192.168.0.5, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, gateway=192.168.0.10). You can also use a cross over cable to connect the NIC directly to the print server. Access the server via a web browser by typing in the IP address (192.168.0.1) and set to the server to Automatically Assign IP. Reconnect the router, set your NIC back to automatic DHCP and power off/on he print server.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

Pros: Excellent installation software; sturdy product; 3 LED lights to indicate activities. network ability proven in connecting to my network.

Cons: Was not clear that my printer cable which came with the printer would not match the server.

Other Thoughts: If one desires to mount the server at the end of the printer cable(between the printer and the network router) then one will need a 36 pin female to DB25 female adapter. I cannot mount the server directly to the printer port since that port is inside of a printer door which does not allow clearance for the server, but does allow a small hole for a printer cable to exit from. Thus I ordered an adapter to fit onto the end of the standard printer parallel cable, and mate to this network server, and thence run the network cable to my router. The product supports printing. An older printer, such as my HP 3330 MFP laserjet, may not allow scanning and faxing from the network to the printer unit however; this may be a printer issue rather than the Trendnet server. Printing via my network to this older printer is fully supported now with the Trendnet. I am happy. Recommend this unit.

5 out of 5 eggsJust plain works

Pros: Simple install
Easy software set up

Cons: Very small con for me, might be a show stopper for some. Self assigns IP by defaut in stead of using DHCP. So you have to use the set up software, or change the IP of your workstaion if you want to do web based setup.

Other Thoughts: Total install time was less than 5 minutes, and that included crawing under the desk to find the power strip. Worked imediately, and just as advertised.

3 out of 5 eggsYou have got to be kidding me

Pros: Nice small device.

Cons: The IP address on this device is set to static rather then DHCP. worse its set to 192.168.0.1. This is the most common IP address that routers use. In order to change it I had to hook up a spair router. This is a complete hassle that could be cured by just shipping the device with a DHCP address. This way it can easily be changed with the web interface.

4 out of 5 eggsRetraction

Pros: It works, but setup is tempermental

Cons: Took multiple times to get it to find the correct address, don't have a clue why on the last attempt it changed the default. This is one time where doing the same thing multiple times acutally worked.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent

Pros: Config utility works from cd. Do not have to install. Can update ip extremely quickly, like in a few seconds!

Cons: Can be a tight fit on some printers. May have to trim plastic some.

Other Thoughts: This got a 23+ year old TI Omni 880 on an ip network. Awesome!
