The best purchase I have made this year.
- Pros: *Excellent range
*Excellent uptime *Very easy to use web interface. *Install CD made configuring the router a non-issue. *Gigabit Switch is really spoiling me on my non-wireless nodes.
I did a decent amount of research before buying the 633GR, but there were no owner reviews out at the time, so I took a chance, and I am VERY glad I did. I replaced a constantly flaky Wireless router from another maker with the 633GR about a month ago, and I haven't had a single lag/connectivity issue since.
Surfing, downloading, online gaming... all have once again become enjoyable experiences with the 633GR.
- Cons: Not a single one.
- Other Thoughts: I work in IT, and the wireless infrastructure is something of a hodge-podge of devices from different manufacturers. I can easily compare the 633GR with the most reliable devices we have at work in terms of ease of use and reliability.
Speaking of ease-of-use and reliability... Newegg.com is where I point all of my non-techie friends who are looking for computer gear. Very well laid-out and intuitive site as well as great customer service and shipping.
Technology is apparently only as useful as the user
- Pros: First off, I'd like to say that if you need a program to connect to your router, you have an issue to begin with. I didn't bother installing the software and it took about five minutes to setup my whole house with WPA encryption. The router worked beautiful, unlike my previous netgear.
I was going to install a dd-wrt firmware when it is available but this router seems to have more to it than those custom firmwares. This router works great and I can get a signal on almost the very edge of my property. I'm setting it up with a server soon and we'll see how that goes.
- Cons: It wasn't free?
- Other Thoughts: To people that are having problems with Vista: Vista is the problem, not the router. Everyone at my college seems to have problems connecting to (insert access point here) because Vista has a habit of not working. Use XP (or linux) and save yourself some headaches.

Solid router
- Pros: Rock solid router.
- Cons: Software not so hot.
- Other Thoughts: I have a pretty extensive set up at home and have a lot of wireless gadgets lurking around. This router has performed well. My home is 1,700 square feet, single story and the router lives in a corner room. No issues at all receiving a signal on the other side of the house. Security setup is decent, although you do need to have some knowledge of wireless security to make use of the available options.
Poor transfer performance
- Pros: Easy to setup, easy to configure. MAKE SURE TO SELECT "Austo 20/40 MHz" Channel width FOR BETTER SPEED.
- Cons: Slower wireless transmission speed than I should be getting. 110Mbit/sec max :/
When transferring files from one computer to another both connected to the router, all eternal internet transfer STOPS. See other thoughts
- Other Thoughts: I currently have three computers connected to this router. Two connected with gigabit LAN cards, and one with a wireless N.
Transfering between the two wired PCs works flawlessly. ~450Mbit/sec (Maxing out the HD speed).
Transfering between the wireless PC and either wired PC is where the problem is. Not only is it fairly slow compared to what it COULD be: ~110-120Mb/sec. But during the transfer all external (internet) transfers stop on ALL THREE PCs. I'll be downloading a file from the internet on any one of my 3 PCs, and when I copy a file over the wireless from one of my wired computers, the download will STOP until the file copy is done.
I am using the latest firmware, but I wish I could install DD-WRT, maybe then it could give me the additional info to see what is causing this huge problem.
After further review
- Pros: I originally reviewed this router about a month ago with 2 eggs. I'm back to change it to 5 eggs. After finally determining that my NAS was causing issues I was able to see what this router was really all about. I have to say it's the best router that I've ever owned. Range and throughput are excellent. I have configured an FTP server to access from outside of the office and it is quick. i have it bridged to another AP and it works great. Now if only it would play nice with my NAS. That's life. But by far this is the best router that I have ever owned!
- Cons: Just that it is not compatable with my NAS. Can't really blame that on the router.
