4 out of 5 eggsWiFi router

Pros: Very little maintenance
Easy Setup
Fast Connections
2.4 and 5 GHz channels

Cons: Takes a while to reboot.

Other Thoughts: I've owned this for over 2 years now. I probably reset every month or 2, but it's still working just fine. I like that I can hook up my older non-wireless printer to this and can access it from multiple computers. I have even hooked up External HDD's to this and played them over the wifi. It has been a very good router for us. We put it through the ringer on a daily basis by watching Netflix or Hulu. The limitations thus far have been with my ISP, not the router.

I don't use the 5GHz frequency much, mostly because my devices don't use it. As time goes on I expect that will change, so I think this will be "future resistant" to changes in technology.

The setup is really simple. I plugged it in and ran the wizard setup. It does everything I need it to do.

5 out of 5 eggsA great router!

Pros: Reliable connection.
Black and shiny.
Why, by Jove, it's got a screen! USB ports! Gigabit Ethernet! Dual-band wireless N for a total of 600Mbps! WPS! Good range! It's a great router!
Got it quite a few bucks off!
Even the WAN port is Gigabit! This thing is actually quite future-proof, even if it's obsolete by now. It'll still handle much faster internet service speeds than we have now!

Cons: Grammar errors in some places in the setup.
Screen is slow and takes a few seconds to update the current transfer speeds.
Became obsolete quick. It's not like that suddenly made your internet slow, though!
There is a dead zone, but it's probably the mirrors, walls and stuff. Nothing an access point, repeater or something of the like can't fix!

Other Thoughts: This review has gone thru one of these routers. Thank goodness we're not using one of those old Fast Ethernet/Wireless G routers as our main ones anymore, we don't need to wait nearly as long for file transfers now! Gigabit and wireless N are awesome! I'm using upgraded firmware from TRENDnet's website.

It's a great solution to finally rid yourself of Fast Ethernet and/or wireless G if your computers are capable!

Need I say more? Two words: It's great!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Has everything you expect a wireless router to have and haven't had to reboot it since purchase almost 9 months ago. Also the screen on the top is actually very nice to check the current connection speed just for peace of mind.

Cons: No way to turn off the top screen but not nearly enough to take off an egg.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst rage ever!

Pros: Dual Band

Cons: Super bad range. Its dual band but, unless you're standing beside it you can't find (N). I call tech support
and all they said was to updated the firmware. I did still
no good. If newegg would take it back I would send it.

Manufacturer Response:

Valued Customer,

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Under normal circumstances you shouldn’t have encounter any issue discovering N within 50 feet in distance at home or office. Please contact us at sales@trendnet.com, reference "New Egg product review" and a Sr. technical engineer will contact you immediately. We look forward to working with you directly and restoring your faith in TRENDnet products.

4 out of 5 eggsNice DD-WRT Router

Pros: Great set of features on this router. Can't really ask for much more considering the price; picked this up several weeks back on a deal for $40. Though I don't really use the 5ghz antenna, it's nice to know it's there. Gigabit ports are also a bonus.

Router has been rock solid since I set it up without a single reboot. Range is also good, though not as strong as my old WRT54G; however, I'm willing to trade some range for the increased throughput.

Cons: Didn't even try to use this router with stock firmware; I upgraded to DD-WRT before even connecting it. The router has been solid without a single reboot since initial setup, but I do occasionally experience a dropped connection when running torrents.

I'm pretty sure this is a problem either with the way I've setup the router or with the network adapter on my PC; when I experience these drops I've noticed that other wireless clients still work fine.

Other Thoughts: I got this router because I wanted to lose the network cable that was running from my office PC to my TV in the living room. I stream a lot of video from this PC; my old router did fine with SD video files, but larger HD files would cause it to stutter. So far I haven't noticed any stutter with this new router coupled with a Rosewill Wireless N USB adapter, but I haven't really stressed it too much.

There is some noticeable buffering before an HD file starts playing, but they seem to play without interruption.

2 out of 5 eggsAnnoying configuration

Pros: Simultaneous dual band
It works

Cons: This router sucks to configure. Every time you make a single change it forces you to restart the router. These restarts last from 40 sec to almost 2 min. For example: I have 4 security cameras so I need to forward 4 ports to access them I also wanted to set up my ftp server which requires me to forward 50 ports. First I found that this router only lets you forward 20 ports maximum. So my ftp is limited to only 16 ports. Then for each and every port I forward it forced a restart of the router and made me wait for 40 sec (it counted them down) to input the next port. This also occurred when setting up the internet connection and security. Oh and They have about 10 ports pre-configured which needed to be removed 1 at a time. These also required restarts. So, what should have been a 5 min setup took over an hour and I ended up with only 16 ports for my ftp. I don't know why any company would let a piece of equipment out with such horrible firmware. Never again Trendnet.

5 out of 5 eggsFast Wireless Transfers!!!

Pros: This has been a great router for me so far! I've had no issues with this router, and I love that were some of the settings are similar to my 12 year old router. I believe that this might be my replacement router brand for a long time. WPS feature is nice, with the button on the right side of the product. I also love the display that is located on the top of the router.

Cons: NONE!

Other Thoughts: This will the second router that I have ever owned! My old router was a Microsoft base station. I wish Microsoft made new routers, but they don't. The Microsoft router still worked just fine, but I decided that after seeing this Trendnet router on Shellshocker, I should go ahead and retire the old and faithful Microsoft router. RIP, Microsoft Wireless Base Station.

3 out of 5 eggsBad factory firmware

Pros: You can flash with 3rd party firmware. I flashed with DD-WRT and it fixed the issues I was having.

Cons: Need to flash a third party firmware to be useable. The lcd no longer works with third party firmware but thats not a big issue. I have 2 other friends with this same router and they also had to flash to DD-WRT to get them to work correctly.

Other Thoughts: I was going to rma this router but decided to keep it after changing the firmware to DD-WRT.

1 out of 5 eggsMakes a nice 1Gig Switch

Pros: Print server works really well.

Cons: Drops WAN connectivity often. Upgrading firmware did not help. Opened problem ticket with Trendnet and got stock answers. I using a wired connection and they kept telling me to check various wireless settings. Documentation on set up is rudimentary and not helpful for anything advanced. Router will not work as a repeater or a bridge. I had most trouble when trying to connect to a VPN. I would not recommend. It also takes a long time to reset itself everytime you update a config parameter on the GUI.

Other Thoughts: I don't want to pay shipping to return this so I decided to re-connect my trendnet 639 wireless router which worked flawlessly and use this one as a print server and extra Gigabyte switch. As long as the other router connects to the WAN and serves as a DHCP, no more drop outs. thankfully I didn't pay a lot. The firmware on the router is really bare bones, I can't even use it as a repeater. Also note that the dual band requires that you have a 5 Ghz device that will use the other band. Its not 2 - 2.4 Ghz, so unless you have a wireless card or internet TV that uses 5 G, you only have one band.

Manufacturer Response:

Valued Customer,

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Our Sr. technical personnel would like to help and resolve the WAN and VPN issue with you. When still under warranty and diagnosed to be defective we will replace it with a working unit. Also, just a side note that this router is not designed as a repeater and by default both 2.4GHz and 5GHz are enable by default. Users are allowed to choose single band by disabling the other band. Please contact us at sales@trendnet.com, reference "New Egg product review" and someone will contact you immediately. We look forward to working with you directly to restore your faith in TRENDnet products.

Pros: NONE

Cons: Useless!! Cannot get to work at all. Asked for help from Trendnet a month ago, Still have not acknowledged that I exist. Total waste of time and money.

Other Thoughts: Is not worth an egg, but had to give one to give you advice.
