1 out of 5 eggsRange is absolutely Horrible

Pros: The only thing I liked about this router was the size, upright stance and lights to let you know what the router is doing.

Cons: Trendnet advertises this router as whole home coverage with powerful amplifiers. I found this to be very untrue as the 5 ghz band was good for 10' and the 2.4 ghz band was good for 15' so its more like a whole room router. I had 2 of these and after the second one was no better then the first one I requested a refund.

Other Thoughts: I used the first one for a week to see if some burn in time would improve the range and it didn't so I thought that I just got a bad one. I sent it back and got a replacement and the range on the new one was just as bad, I finally gave up and sent it back for a refund. I basically wasted a month and $25 waiting and paying for shipping.

2 out of 5 eggsNice package, horrible range

Pros: Nice packaging
Easy to set up
Nice software

Cons: range is horrible, significantly less than my NetGear WNDR4500
No external antennas (would have been easy to install higher power antennas)

Other Thoughts: Due to the lack of decent range, I returned the unit. I plan to order either the NetGear or Asus AC1900.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router

Pros: Wow, this completely blows away all expectations! Even though the built-in wizard is probably good, I wanted to tweak a few things so I set it up myself. I really appreciate the guest SSIDs for when company comes over. No need to give out the WPA2 key anymore!

The best part is the dual 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bands. No need to worry about slower devices encroaching on the faster devices. And it more than doubles the range of my old router. Now I can sit on the back porch and still get signal!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: My first TrendNet product but definitely not my last!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy setup. Lots of flexibility. Very fast. Great range for 2.4 GHz band

Cons: 5 GHz range not as good as 2.4 GHz

Other Thoughts: Just set this up to replace a D-Link DIR-655 router I was having issues with (range and general reliability). So far, I couldn't be happier. The setup was very easy. I configured a 2.4 GHz "n" network, a guest 2.4 GHz "n" network, and a 5 GHz "ac" network. Total setup time was still less than 10 mins. This came with a free linksys media bridge when I ordered it, and it took just a couple mins to setup using the WPS buttons. So far that is very stable and it made a noticeable difference in connection speed (I have a desktop plugged in to the media bridge now, will probably add a blu-ray in a bit).

As compared to my old router, the range on the 2.4 GHz network is very good. I have a 2-story house with a basement, the router being in the corner of the basement. Previously, I could not get a stable connection everywhere in my house. Now, using the 2.4 GHz band, there is a strong connection everywhere. The range on the 5 GHz band is not as good, and doesn't reach to the opposite side of the house on the 2nd story, but my media bridge is on the opposite side of the house on the first floor and the connection there is fine.

So far, I'm very happy with the purchase and it has made a big difference.

4 out of 5 eggsTRENDnet TEW-818DRU AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Router

Pros: Lights on front nice.

Plastic router outside are nice quality surface.

Router has strong wireless signals on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

Interface responds quickly.

Changes take immediate effect without having to reboot router and losing your connection.

Router comes preset with encryption for admin password and network password which is a definite step forward.

Mulitple SSIDs is a nice.

Guest Network is a definite security plus.

Overall documentation is excellent with included diagrams and explanations.

USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports increase its utility

Cons: Ethernet Cable not the best quality.

Router somewhat unstable in vertical position as there are no legs supporting it.

No connection LEDs on Ethernet ports.

Interface is a little confusing when switching between Basic and Advanced wireless settings.

Network Status screen shows connected devices, but not by which connection type (wireless or wired / 2.4GHz or 5GHz).

MAC Filtering is limited to only 24 entries. MAC Filtering is listed under Parental Control and not under Security.

Only one Admin ID on router with no other IDs allowed.

Other Thoughts: So far I'm happy with my first AC and Trendnet router.

5 out of 5 eggsTEW-818DRU Review

Pros: This is a light (amazingly light, actually) router. It has no external antennas and 4 LAN ports. I've installed it in conjunction with a Verizon FIOS Actiontec so I'm not using the "router" part of the router, just the wireless. And I have to say I'm liking the AC speeds, the fast N plus the guest network that I now have. It worked fine with a Linksys media bridge (WUMC710) using WPS. A Trendnet TWE-805UB USB3 USB AC and N adapter boosted my wife's desktop by maybe 30% over the prior N network. The extenders got the Samsung Blurays running the (cannot be said here) prime app really speedy. So I'm pleased.

Cons: Amazingly plastic and light, just seems kind of flimsy but its not. Bot that much of a con :)

Other Thoughts: While maybe not as pro as the top of the line Asus router, this is one nice unit. The speed boost just on the internal side of my home network (spouse and her laptop are wireless) makes it worth it.
