2 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasts, but driver problems.

Pros: Excellent signal reception, could get a strong and steady signal from one floor up and about fifty feet away through a kitchen.

Cons: Most current drivers have made it impossible to use under Vista Home Basic. Even opening the network connection panel causes a driver error BSOD. The latest drivers from the company are from October of 2008 so there isn't any support for it now.

Other Thoughts: If the drivers and adapter work for you, this is a great adapter that works excellently. But make sure you have a good return policy if you're trying it out.

5 out of 5 eggsSaves money on Routers

Pros: I was setting up 2 wl-520gu routers as a dd-wrt repeater bridge to reach from the far top corner of a 2 story ranch house all the way to his boat dock at the end of the back yard (like 200 feet through alot of house diagonally). I setup the first router and planned on putting the second at the back of the house as a repeater, but I was getting a 3/5 bars without it. I was running the router at 70mw and had this HAWKING HWU8DD picking up the signal at the dock.

Cons: Made me look bad. I spent a lot of time figuring out a system with 2 routers and this thing in a wireless bridge repeater configuration. We ordered all the stuff and I was done after hooking up 2/3 of it and it took 1/4 the time. It was like "what was all the fuss about, that was easy" PS: the software's kinda cheesy, but who cares, this is amazing

Other Thoughts: We didn't need to buy a router at all, or internet service for that matter. This thing was picking up like 10 signals from all over the lake as I rotated it and refreshed the list.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Adapter, but...

Pros: Good, stable connection.

Cons: However, there are no Vista 64 bit driver so can't use it in 64 bits windows vista and windows 7. If you are using 64 bits windows don't even think about buying it...

5 out of 5 eggsStrong Signal

Pros: Went from a poor signal using a USB Wireless Adapter to a good signal Using this directional antenna adapter.

Cons: Kind of large in size to travel with and dish part can be fragile.

Other Thoughts: Been trying to increase my signal strength to no avail using 802.11g and n. But once I hooked this up right away it jumped to good.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Outstanding signal! Tried RangeMax, RangeBooster, none worked well . Had Less than 2 bars. Bought this, and hooked it up, no drivers needed. I use Linux. Worked out of the Box! No need for ndiswrapper, instant 5 bars and still averages about 4 to 5 from easily 300 feet away almost 1 year later. We live in a cottage outside the main house were the router resides. I highly recommend this for ANY Linux users. Definitely will be buying another for the other computer. I have tried 6 different adapters before I settled with this one.

Cons: Windows drivers aren't very reliable. Had to use built in windows wireless services to work with dual booted WinXP.

Other Thoughts: Great on Ubuntu as well.

5 out of 5 eggssteal your neighbors wi fi

Pros: I have been using this for awhile on my laptop, when I take it on the road and need some wi fi. It really does boost the signal by far. Previous connections I couldn't connect to now work.

Cons: short usb cable

Other Thoughts: don't expect miracles, you actually do need a wi fi signal nearby somewhere. if you're in the desert it might not work.

4 out of 5 eggspossible driver issues

Pros: It was easy to set up and it does improve my wireless reception. The drivers installed with no issue. Looks really nifty.

Cons: It feel flimsy as other people here have indicated. Hopefully it won't break if I handle it gently. It didn't improve my signal as much as I had hoped. Some people here described massive gains in signal. I went from 1 or 2 bars, to 2-3, it's good, but just not AS good as I wanted. Also I got this so I could improve my laptops reception, as well as be able to use my desktop for the internet, but my desktop doesn't get as good of reception as my laptop. Antennae in the same place, same cable. Only difference I could come up with is that my laptop is on Vista and my desktop is using XP so the drivers aren't the same. I'll be looking into this further.

Other Thoughts: Newegg absolutely rocks the house. I was desperately wanting to improve my wireless reception so I got the 2 day ups shipping instead of the normal 3 day. I felt a bit frustrated as I checked to see if my order had been shipped the same day I ordered and it just said it was at the phase where they had charged my card. This rather annoyed me because in the past Newegg has always gotten things shipped for me the same day I ordered if it was early enough in the day. How surprised I was when this thing showed up on my doorstep THE NEXT DAY. I ordered Monday at 7am, product was at my door at 10am the next day. 27 hours from time I clicked the button to finalize the purchase until the box was in my hands. I'm stunned.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Product for Windows, Great for Linux

Pros: The unit definitly picks up a signal from a good distance away. From our apt. we can pick up over 1500 feet and get about 25% signal strength. Our Linux box gets Great signal with it and we have yet to see it loose internet connection when we use it.

Cons: Newer Windows, double pained gass filled, tend to stop all radio signal even our cell phone so we open the window a crack and set it on the pain. This usually resolves any problems we have except moister. This product seems to be quite moisture intollerant. When we first got it, I had it on our window sill and it just stoped working. The Next evening it was fine though.

Other Thoughts: It's not ment for moist environments so we put it inside a Gal. Ziplock Freezer bag and sealed it in with some normal air. This keeps most moisture out and we've had it get hit with rain, snow and evening dew. We still get great signal and I havn't had to do anything more with it. So if your having problems where Moisture Might get to it, Put it in a Freezer bag and your problems will be solved.

2 out of 5 eggsOverpriced Toy

Pros: Looks neat.

Cons: Underperforms for the money. Tried this product in a variety of configurations and it can't beat the $30 Edimax adapter it was meant to replace. Edimax adapter attains a solid 1-2 bars to a neighbors network far down the street. This thing can't even get 1 bar.

Other Thoughts: It looked nice, shiny box, cool idea, but obviously not very well executed. Spent about an hour with this toy and that's all it ended up being, a neat toy. Returned for a refund the same day I got it. That was the only good thing about it, the 1 day it took to ship (thanks UPS).
