5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Router for Average User!

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N300RT, Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Router, IEEE 802.11b/11g/11n, Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates, 2x 5dBi Fixed Antennas, DD-WRT Open Source Support

Pros: I own and operate a company that handles internet installations for a very large portion of the county I live in. I've been selling the RNX-N300RT for well over a year and have TONS of these units deployed. In all the time I've been programming and installing them for various different customers I have only ever had 1 fail, and it was in a home that was struck by lightning. I'm VERY impressed with the reliability, durability, and speed that these routers offer at a fraction of the price you typically pay for the JUNK at Wally World and Best Buy.

Cons: None!

Pros: Router working since 2012,Been reading the reviews, some seem to have the Sanford touch in short life of products...don't pile junk on your equipment so your equipment won't become junk..Take care of what you buy so it lasts longer...

Cons: Needs resetting at times...Normal

Other Thoughts: Was only $20 shipped in 2012

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Low End Router

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N300RT, Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Router, IEEE 802.11b/11g/11n, Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates, 2x 5dBi Fixed Antennas, DD-WRT Open Source Support

Pros: Simple Setup
Open WiFi out of the box, no need for cabling or typing a preset password for first time setup
low cost

Cons: needs to be reset once in a great while, the default ip gateway conflicts with a lot of other products for networking.

Other Thoughts: I sell a lot of these for simple home networking, haven't had a single one returned as of yet. I've found that the default gateway conflicts with a lot of repeaters, so you'll be needing to change that if you plan on boosting your signal. Some relatively simple problems. The routers user interface is user friendly, I've found navigating it to be no problem at all. From port forwarding, changing the default gateway, to setting a static IP is relatively painless.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid workhorse at home

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N300RT, Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Router, IEEE 802.11b/11g/11n, Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates, 2x 5dBi Fixed Antennas, DD-WRT Open Source Support

Pros: Support for DD-WRT, the Swiss army knife of router firmware.
Inexpensive.
Small.
Good household range.

Cons: Small amt of memory means DD-WRT only, no mega.

Other Thoughts: Purchased 1/26/13 for twenty-eight usd, it's been running solidly since. Have had to reboot twice in that time, although I can't conclusively say it was at the fault of the router. We have ~30 devices connected in our family. I've configured separate wireless networks for each of my children using MAC address filtering (their school laptops can connect during the school week, but their Xboxes and other devices cannot), & added discrete guest network SSID's with WPA2 personal for everyone else. We've also made schedules that turn off wireless at night so there's no clandestine shenanigans, at least of the digital sort.

Bottom line is that this little guy is very configurable and has been able to handle the workload of all of our household wireless needs for 18 months now with almost zero problems.

4 out of 5 eggsHas Its Limits

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N300RT, Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Router, IEEE 802.11b/11g/11n, Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates, 2x 5dBi Fixed Antennas, DD-WRT Open Source Support

Pros: Works great as a repeater.
Easily flashed with DDWRT.
Good range
Small Footprint.

Cons: Drops the internet connection while running torrents, lowing the connection amount did nothing to alleviate this problem.
Runs warm with no vents on top only on bottom, lowered the transmit power to reduce heat.
No IPv6
Can only flash DDWRT standard no mega, due to memory limits in router.

Other Thoughts: I had to purchase another router to handle the repeating duties while running torrents. This one now collects dust.

3 out of 5 eggsI loved it for a year...

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N300RT, Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Router, IEEE 802.11b/11g/11n, Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates, 2x 5dBi Fixed Antennas, DD-WRT Open Source Support

Pros: This router served me well for about a year and a half... I really liked the price point and loved the DD-WRT support... The unit is small and seemed relatively sturdy.

Cons: After about 18 months of use, the router has become very flaky. Just as others have described in regards to this unit, it works perfect for a while, but then one day it will just start dropping connections and eventually becomes unusable... It's almost as if it becomes fatigued over the course of its life - seemingly related to volume of devices connected and the load it is placed under...

If I kill everything and just connect one device, I an rock along for a while with it... As soon as I let phones or IP cams connect, things start getting flaky and connections drop regularly... Also, I work from home and require a VPN connection which is often handling virtual meetings (video/voice) - after an hour or two of meetings, the same previously described behavior crops up - dropped connections and bad behavior...

It's a shame - I really loved this little guy, but I think I will have to go with something more battle tried for my next one...

Other Thoughts: All in all, I guess I can't complain too much because I paid $15 for this thing... When it was good, it was really good... While I was initially tempted to just accept the short lifespan of this and give it another try with a new one, I just can't - when you factor in the time required to reconfigure complex configurations (forwarding rules for security systems and the sort), there is more cost at play here than just the $15..
