3 out of 5 eggsNot plug and play with raspbmc

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC600UB - Dual Band Wireless AC600 Adapter - IEEE 802.11AC a / b / g / n, Up to 433 Mbps (5.0 GHz) + 150 Mbps (2.4 GHz) Wi-Fi Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, WPS for Easy Connect

Pros: small

Cons: not plug and play with ubuntu 14.04 or raspbmc/kodi

Other Thoughts: feels sturdy, not like some others that feel like the silver plug is going to break off when plugging it in

4 out of 5 eggsnice adapter for the $

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC600UB - Dual Band Wireless AC600 Adapter - IEEE 802.11AC a / b / g / n, Up to 433 Mbps (5.0 GHz) + 150 Mbps (2.4 GHz) Wi-Fi Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, WPS for Easy Connect

Pros: Excellent price
Excellent throughput

Cons: MUST install drivers BEFORE plugging the device in - or face BSOD(Win-7 & 8)
Unstable for the 1st 5 to 10 minutes after booting up

Other Thoughts: You MUST install the drivers before plugging this in - otherwise it's BSOD time!
This adapter is rock solid and has excellent throughput.... but not until the system has been booted up for more than 10 minutes. Before this 10 minutes it's sluggish and will even disconnect and reconnect on its own. (after that, rock solid.) I deducted an EGG for this stability weirdness. I've used this on Win-7 and win-8 and clonezilla - without drivers installed, it will crash all 3 OS's.
Knowing these "Quirks", I still enjoy this product - it was cheap! And once it's finally stabilized, it's wicked fast!

1 out of 5 eggsNot working, contacting Rosewill

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC600UB - Dual Band Wireless AC600 Adapter - IEEE 802.11AC a / b / g / n, Up to 433 Mbps (5.0 GHz) + 150 Mbps (2.4 GHz) Wi-Fi Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, WPS for Easy Connect

Pros: Would be great if it worked...

Cons: Get the BSOD right away... using Windows 8.1 on an HP, for a moment, it shows Wifi 2 connections available, and the 5GHZ network is there, but then it just dies.

Other Thoughts: Rosewill makes lots of products I love, so I'll contact them and see what happens.

1 out of 5 eggsNot for Dual Boot

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC600UB - Dual Band Wireless AC600 Adapter - IEEE 802.11AC a / b / g / n, Up to 433 Mbps (5.0 GHz) + 150 Mbps (2.4 GHz) Wi-Fi Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, WPS for Easy Connect

Pros: None

Cons: Does not work with a Dual Boot system ie Windows and Ubuntu, etc. Called Rosewill Tech Support and this is what I was told.

Ubuntu won't recognize the device and it crased Windows as soon as I plugged it in.

Other Thoughts: Paid $21 for shipping but am only getting $15 on the return.

4 out of 5 eggsRosewill RNX-AC600B

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC600UB - Dual Band Wireless AC600 Adapter - IEEE 802.11AC a / b / g / n, Up to 433 Mbps (5.0 GHz) + 150 Mbps (2.4 GHz) Wi-Fi Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, WPS for Easy Connect

Pros: The driver from web page is working OK on Windows 8.1 64 bit.
It was small and inexpensive. 5GHz faster than the stock 802.11N on my HP Envy 17 laptop. It hasn't stopped working while using the computer or after waking the computer.

Cons: 2.4 GHz not faster 14 feet away from the Apple Airport Extreme base station than the built in N adaptor in the HP Envy 17 laptop from 2010. If it could do 300 to 450 MBps at 2.4 GHz without costing more or being unreliable, I would give 5 stars. (They didn't claim it would.)

Other Thoughts: I bought this to upgrade my laptop from 802.11N. It connects at a higher speed than the built in wireless at 5 GHz and it isn't too wide to use the USB port next to it. It doesn't stick out very far.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well - Update

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC600UB - Dual Band Wireless AC600 Adapter - IEEE 802.11AC a / b / g / n, Up to 433 Mbps (5.0 GHz) + 150 Mbps (2.4 GHz) Wi-Fi Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, WPS for Easy Connect

Pros: See previous review

Cons: See Previous Review

Other Thoughts: In my case the problem with installing this unit comes from a conflict with Zone Alarm Firewall, which will not the drivers install correctly or disables the adapter so that it appears not to work..
My workaround was to uninstall the firewall, install the wireless adapter and then reinstall firewall. Everything works well after that!
I have encountered the same problem with a Belkin WiFi USB adapter recently.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT PURCHASE

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC600UB - Dual Band Wireless AC600 Adapter - IEEE 802.11AC a / b / g / n, Up to 433 Mbps (5.0 GHz) + 150 Mbps (2.4 GHz) Wi-Fi Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, WPS for Easy Connect

Pros: NONE

Cons: Doesn't work and killed one of my laptops.

Other Thoughts: I'm an IT Administrator. I purchased this when I was buying another product and saw it for a low price and thought I might find a use for it. When it arrived, I tested it first by inserting it into my new laptop running Windows 8.1. Each time I did this, I'd immediately get a blue screen instantly. If I boot up with the device in, I'd get a blue screen before login.

I then tried to insert this wireless device into one of my old laptops. In this case, a 12 year old sturdy laptop running Windows XP. The result was instant shutdown of the laptop and IT WILL NOT POWER ON ANYMORE.

Needless to say, this was a bad purchase. For your own safety, do not purchase this wireless adapter.

4 out of 5 eggsIt seems to work

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC600UB - Dual Band Wireless AC600 Adapter - IEEE 802.11AC a / b / g / n, Up to 433 Mbps (5.0 GHz) + 150 Mbps (2.4 GHz) Wi-Fi Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, WPS for Easy Connect

Pros: Very attractive price. It's small. It works.

Cons: No online support that I can find - had to use the driver from the install CD. Documentation a bit weak. Deducted one egg for that.

Other Thoughts: Following the advice of others on here, I ignored the instructions and installed the drivers first and rebooted before ever inserting the adapter. It installed fine on my system from the start (Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit) with apparently no issues.

For large block transfers I get speeds ranging from 300-400 Mbps when in the same room as my AC router (ASUS RT-AC66R), and about 100-150 Mbps when on the other end of the house. Overall that's better than 5X the real-world performance that I was getting with my previous 801.11 n setup. Can't complain about that.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't waste your money/time

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC600UB - Dual Band Wireless AC600 Adapter - IEEE 802.11AC a / b / g / n, Up to 433 Mbps (5.0 GHz) + 150 Mbps (2.4 GHz) Wi-Fi Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, WPS for Easy Connect

Pros: It's small, when it works it's relatively fast

Cons: Plugged device in, caused instant BSOD. Installed the drivers first, device worked relatively well for a little while but would constantly drop connection while other wireless clients had no issues. Now recently, device causes BSOD constantly even after multiple re-installs of the drivers/utility. No new drivers in 9+ months, and drivers aren't even under the device description on their website.

Other Thoughts: No updated drivers, the mere presence of it crashes the system. Buyer very much beware.

2 out of 5 eggsRosewill Link

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC600UB - Dual Band Wireless AC600 Adapter - IEEE 802.11AC a / b / g / n, Up to 433 Mbps (5.0 GHz) + 150 Mbps (2.4 GHz) Wi-Fi Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, WPS for Easy Connect

Pros: Driver links from Rosewill don't exist

Cons: Seriously, driver links as provided by Rosewill aren't there. Really. Check it if you'd like. The one they give is:

http://www.rosewill.com/products/2702/ProductDetail_Download.htm

Do you see a link for software there? hmmm...

Other Thoughts: If we knew the REAL mfg, we could go there for drivers...
