EnGenius EUB9801 Dual-Band Wireless N Adapter 300Mbps on 2.4GHz or 300Mbps on 5GHz, USB 2.0, WPS Button

Pros: Dual band. Compact. Works immediately under Windows 7 64 bit and Windows 8 RTM 64 bit.

Cons: Random disconnects, even when other WiFi connected PC's in the home are still connected and don't randomly disconnect. Poor reception quality...two bars MAX when my notebook internal WiFi adapter in the same notebook can achieve 5 bars in the same spot. I was hoping for a equally strong signal with this adapter in my notebook PC and achieve dual band capability (which my notebook does not support). This product did not meet my expectations.

Pros: Fast install. Very fast data rates. Consistent 130-180Mbps through one floor and 2 walls. Using with an ASUS 56n Dual band Router. Fast band switching using the EnGenius control applet.

Cons: No Win-7 plug-n-play. Even though the newegg product label says so, there is no WPS button. It is a software function that is initiated inside the EnGenius control applet.

Other Thoughts: *When I purchased there was a $5 discount. Replaced a Rosewill RNX-N100 adapter that was maxing out at about 90Mbps. I do media design and run all media computers on the 5GHz band. When I want to connect to all of the other devices on the 2.4GHz band it is an easy toggle in the EnGenius applet.

Pros: Strong good dual band 2.4 and 5GHz model

Cons: Software that comes with it is not impressive, but works well with windows connection wizard it is not an issue.

Pros: 2.4 GHz connections works ok.

Cons: The biggest issues is after reboot you will need to re-insert the card for the system to see.
5.8GHz has no range will connect, but not work . Same as LG-Ericsson USB-1040, they both have this issue.
Tested on multiple PC and OS same issues.

Do not buy it will drive you nuts.

Pros: Works well on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands.

Gets about ~95Mbps TX and ~75Mbps throughput to a 5th gen airport extreme a room over using 5Ghz N with MCS always in the 13-15 range.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Note: I'm not sure what a previous reviewer was talking about w.r.t not installing the Engenius driver and just using the ones from Ralink. You definitely want to install the Enginius driver (at least in Win 7) as the included control app allows you to see important things like realtime RSSI/MCS/GI as well as realtime tx/rx throughput. It also allows you to adjust features inside the driver not available from the Win7 driver control panel.

Pros: Nice blue light.

Cons: Conked out after 2 1/2 months of use. Even when it worked, as other wrote you, have to physically reinstall the thing a few times a week because drivers are not recognized at boot. So now that I want to remove it and its software, I can't because you have to have a working adapter installed on your PC to remove the adapter. Do they expect me to buy another one of their products so I can uninstall this one? BAD DESIGN!

Other Thoughts: Time to try something else.

Pros: It does use Wireless N and it does have decent transfer rates when within range. Online games are playable, so long as your internet speed and router speed are also decent. Also, it DOES work with Windows 7 64-bit.

Cons: My PC sits on the floor, approximately 50ft from the router, but in a different room. My old Netgear Wireless N adapter had 5 bars of signal; this one only has 2 bars of signal. My Netgear adapter also got 300mb/s, this adapter only gets around 120-150.

Other Thoughts: It's not terrible, but I just wish it was the same as my old one. Sadly, my old Netgear adapter was broken in a case of "leg-crushing-all-USB-devices" and I had to replace it with this model, since the Netgear equivalent is too expensive.

Pros: Easy, trouble-free installation under Windows 7 64-bit
Fast 5GHz band 802.11n performance

Cons: Would be nice if it came with a USB extension cable/vertical mounting stand.

Other Thoughts: EnGenius has been around a while, mainly selling specialized long-range cordless phones. This adapter uses the Ralink 2800UD chipset (RT2870 + RT2850) for 2.4/5GHz operation on USB 2.0. I didn't use any of the software on the EnGenius CD; I instead downloaded and used the latest Windows driver from the Ralink website (3.2.1), which works great under Win 7 64-bit, using Windows' built-in WiFi utility to set up encryption key, etc. No problems at all with the PC sleeping or waking from sleep. I used a spare 2-ft USB 2.0 extension cable to mount the adapter to the side of my wooden HTPC cabinet with Velcro, to give it a little better "view" of the WiFi router.

Pros: Connection is very Stable and Reliable.
Works flawlessly with my Asus N56U router.
5Ghz connection is FAST!

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I used to own an old 150 Mbps 802.11n USB adapter. It was terrible. I bought this new adapter when I was getting a new Asus N56U router. This is awesome. 5Ghz wireless connection with 40 Mhz channel bandwidth is so smooth and fast. And follow other guys' reviews. Do not install the CD. Download the latest driver from Encore website. Install only the driver, not the wifi utilities. Let windows handle wifi connections.

Pros: low price, fast, N Wireless! This adapter works great with my Netgear 3700 router. See Con's for the one fix I had to do!

Cons: I initally had similar troubles to another reviewer, Windows 7 wouldn't recognize the adapter after the computer was brought back from sleep mode. It wasn't a big deal as you could just unplug it and plug it back it. It got to be a little annoying when my guide wasn't updating (this is used for a media center PC). I originally let windows find the driver, but decided to check the website to see if they had updated their driver from the install disk (V3.0.3), as it turns out they have V3.0.4, after installing it, I haven't had a problem with the adapter not being recognized after waking the PC up!

Other Thoughts: great deal for the price, get V3.0.4 from the manufacturers website, use WPA2 and don't install the software.
