3 out of 5 eggsIt's OK.

Pros: It has a sleek-looking form factor and is easy to get up and running. I have it connected via powerline adapter to my primary router in the other corner of the house, and it definitely extends my range nicely.

Cons: The problem is the older, cheaper WRT54GL I had upstairs had better signal on the other side of the downstairs, and devices kept trading back and forth. Also, I bought this to replace a Zyxel device and expected significantly better but only got incrementally better.

Other Thoughts: I still have this connected as a separate SSID but now use it sparingly, as I've replaced the WRT54GL with an AWESOME ASUS RT-AC66U. I don't really see a lot of value in this device, as similar devices are maybe 80-90% as good for half the price.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Perfect for what I need at my home. Currently have two in service (will be adding a third) in a Wifi roaming arraignment. I am using 2 of the 4 SSIDs (one for private access, one for public access), separated using VLANS. The setup of the access point was easy and self explanatory. Also, I am using PoE. That works like a charm. As others have said, the LEDs can be turned off, which is a good thing because they are quite bright.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: If you need a simple, attractive AP, this is the ticket. The PoE and VLANs are a huge plus.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product. Wrong Application

Pros: Easy to use, many advance features, great range

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Customer said they had a managed switch that supported VLANs....they didn't, so the multiple SSIDs with VLAN tagging wasn't implemented.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Value, Excellent Operation

Pros: Small, Round, Great Signal Penetration. Comes with or you can download the locator software to find and configure your AP's. About to purchase a third for in office use.
POE compliant without unnecessary injector. (See Other Thoughts)

Cons: None have surfaced so far.

Other Thoughts: I have placed 2 of these in a production fabrication area to give wireless to the shop floor. So far, they have been flawless.
About the "missing" POE injector, you have to understand that these are POE compliant and I, like many others, use POE switches which power the units (and cameras and phones and other stuff). I'm glad they didn't come with them because I alredy have a box full of injectors not being used. This would have raised the price and been unnecessary if you're doing a "Professional" installation. Get yourself a quality switch with POE and lessen the opportunity for failure by having injectors all over the place and more cable connections, or buy the injector if you have a one-off installation.

2 out of 5 eggsSlow!!

Pros: Small, Blends in well looks like a smoke detector has Blue LEDS and can be powered via POE

Cons: Slow!!! The ap configures fine, but sometimes it just looses packets, the resulting pc does not respond at all! its not our channel spectrum either!

Other Thoughts: Would not repurchase

3 out of 5 eggsIt's ok

Pros: Has outstanding coverage up to 120 feet away from the device. It has acceptable coverage out to1/4 mile and it acts like a great device for home use.

Cons: This one was recommended to me to install in a convention center and they failed with the first function that went into that convention center. It turns out they have a maximum of 25 devices logging in simultaneously, I had over 1,000 people trying to use it.

Other Thoughts: No need to spend money on this if you're a tech looking to hook up a lot of people in a small place. It missed getting five eggs by not being able to support more than 25 wireless devices.

5 out of 5 eggsSetup was a breeze

Pros: small, attractive form factor. looks like a smoke detector and mounts very easily on the wall. setup was very straightforward and worked exactly as described in the leaflet provided. i was pleasantly surprised by the available wireless security options. the user interface was laid out in a very user-friendly format. i was able to find most features i wanted to configure with only one or two clicks.

Cons: the only drawback I noticed (so minor it doesn't affect my overall rating) was that DHCP configuration does not seem to have a way to give leases only to WiFi clients. i'm still looking for this and may find it in the included disk or the online documentation. i like to assign IP ranges so that I can readily identify which clients on my network are wired and which are wireless.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Reliable so far. The signal seems to cover my house quite well even outside through the brick walls. Having many features is nice when I eventually get around to needing/wanting to use them.

Cons: Many people would just want to plug this in and run with it, but read the quick install. It needs you to set IP manually on another computer to do the initial setup.

1 out of 5 eggsCommon Problem

Pros: It's round

Cons: After about a month in service the unit stopped working as an access point, and turned into a relatively inefficient night-light. Pressed the 'reset' button to restore to orig config, and was able to access it via CAT5; as soon as you change the IP away from factory, it becomes inaccessable - either from wireless or cable. This problem is similar to issues seen w/ other models of this brand. I intend to send it back for replacement, and hope that the other 3 I have continue to work. 25% failure rate does not fall into the 'acceptable' band. I would look at other vendors if I were you.

Other Thoughts: Other than the fact that the unit doesn't work, it is a fine piece of technology.

1 out of 5 eggsnever worked

Pros: none

Cons: It never worked. Connected to it once and was going to use a repeater. Clicked on repeater option and lost connection. My EOA3630 also quit at the same time. Couldn't connect wired or wireless to eaither anymore. Had another EOA3630 before the EAP9550 and it just quit powering up one day after something shorted in it and the smoke came out. Guess it needs that smoke in it.

Other Thoughts: not happy with egenius at all. $400 into their equipment now and none of it works.
