2 out of 5 eggsQuestionable Reliabilty, Bad Customer Service

Pros: Affordable. Didn't lose signal strength. Used as a repeater. Easy to setup. Nice compact size. Doesn't seem to run too hot.

Cons: Bought two. One of the two began to lose signal strength and eventually capped out at 3.5 Mbps download after about 6 months. Contacted manufacturer to RMA the unit while under warranty. Initial contact was great, rep was very understanding and authorized a replacement. Unfortunately, this model was discontinued and I had to settle for a cheaper replacement, but I was fine with this. I shipped the defective unit back on 1/29 and then the customer service began to fall apart. 2 weeks later and I am still waiting for my replacement. I was never given a tracking number and when I contact Encore, I am told one will be emailed to me by end of day, but I never receive one. Not a fun experience.

Other Thoughts: Good buy for the price. Quality can be questioned since 1/2 routers was defective but obviously a small sample size. Would have bought again from company, but RMA process too inefficient for my taste.

5 out of 5 eggsAnother review by me

Pros: This is the biggest secret in the world. I originally bought several of these to use as repeaters. After being thoroughly unimpressed with several over the past 12 months: DIR-657 Dlink, Linksys EA4500, Netgear WNDR4500 - I seriously thought I was doing something wrong- especially after the $180 Netgear kept dropping connections and causing IP conflicts. I have a home network with a total of 11 hard wired devices in addition to another dozen wireless devices. After the Netgear kept failing me I put the Encore on as a temp, so I could go out and buy another high performance router. Over the next few days a funny thing occurred to me, my connections weren't dropping and the throughput wasn't throttling down. I really wasn't expecting this to be a permanent solution, but this little router performs like a bad boy. In addition I thought those dinky little antennas wouldn't reach anything- was I wrong! I have this set-up in my basement , I get solid wifi up to the 2nd floor bedrooms in addition to across the entire house on the 1st floor. The house including basement area is about 3500 sq ft.

Cons: It's more expensive now than it use to be. Not the clearest instructions, better off going to the website.

Other Thoughts: Sometimes less is more. This isn't dual band, it doesn't have a guest separate wifi and blah blah blah. When it comes down to it, what good is all that junk when the wireless router can't do it's rudimentary functions well. Good signal, good throughput, no dropping connections, no conflicts- this way exceeded my expectations. I just can't believe it works as well as it does, especially considering the amount of devices I have attached wired and wirelessly.

1 out of 5 eggsmade in China and made for China

Pros: cheap

Cons: You may get wrong power adapter.
I ordered two of them for my networking. One has 110 V power adapter and the other one has 220 V power adapter that doesn't even fit to 220to110 adapter!.
I am sure there is no QC in Encore

Other Thoughts: I have been very happy with encore product until I got this one with wrong power adapter. They are cheap and reliable but they failed to ship right power adapter.

4 out of 5 eggsSo Far So Good - FYI reg Repeater Setup

Pros: Easy setup, found documentation to be adequate - will update if needed.

NOTE: Use as Repeater - little doc in Manual - BUT ... online under model number found excellent Repeater FAQ ... even has the "Beginner" version - very detailed ... *and* a shorter "Techy PDF" version. - Very clear!
Also, there is a Firmware update - needs to be installed in two steps - see "zipped" ReadMeFirst Doc.

Cons: So far NONE - hope it will last longer than the other reviews!

1 out of 5 eggsOverheats and keeps dropping the connection

Pros: It's cheap enough.

Cons: This router overheats constantly and drops the connection. I put it up on a metal rack, but that only helps the problem, it doesn't fix it. It still drops the connection or slows way down every few hours.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy

Pros: None

Cons: Unit stopped functioning within days. All of my other equipment was varified to be functioning correctly. Couldn't RMA item with newegg due to not having box banking on unit fucntioning correctly long term.

Other Thoughts: Attempted to register product with Encore but website registration is non-functional. Left message and wrote Encore with no response. Horrible product from Encore and horrible customer service. Won't buy their products again and advise nobody else to purchase them until they improve their customer service response and quality control
