1 out of 5 eggsPiece of junk

Pros: Good range, decent price, fast speeds - if it works.

Cons: stopped working after a week; won't connect to wpa/wpa2 setups.

Other Thoughts: Originally, it wouldn't connect to my router with anything stronger than WEP encryption (router was only a year old). I replaced the wireless router (brand new model netgear) and had awesome performance (300Mbit connects)... for about a week! Then it started doing the same thing again. I tried direct drivers from realtek's site, etc. Nothing. Waste of $20 and a waste of a lot of hours trouble shooting this.

5 out of 5 eggsDriver Info

Pros: Connects well, and never disconnects. No problems at all.

Cons: The driver supplied on CD and Encore web site is old and probably unstable.

Other Thoughts: To get a newer/better driver, go to Realtek directly. The Realtek chips used on these are Realtek "RTL8192CE-VA4". > Downloads > Communications Network ICs > Wireless LAN ICs > WLAN NIC > IEEE 802.11b/g/n Single-Chip > Software > RTL8192CE-VA4

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!! But Could Be Better!!!

Pros: Improved speeds from 54 Mbps to 130 Mbps plus signal quality went from 2 bars to 5 bars. I used the Encore win 7 64 bit drivers from their web site and then I used windows update for the most recent Realtek driver.

Cons: Why am I only getting 130 Mbps?? My router is a Netgear N300 ADSL2 + Modem Router DGN2200 v4. I replaced my wireless-G Linksys PCI adapter card (WMP54GS) which gave me a maximum speed of only 54 Mbps running Windows 7 64bit.

Other Thoughts: I may have been experiencing or still am experiencing interference. My cordless phone base was less than a foot away from my router. When I moved it about 12 feet away from my router my signal quality improved. Cordless phones operate at the same 2.4Ghz frequency as most wireless routers. Also most ceiling fans with remotes operate at 2.4Ghz frequency also but we don't have one in the same room as the router.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card

Pros: It's small, it has 2 antennas, it works great

Cons: The antennas are too big, in my opinion. 5dbi is too big behind my system, it get stuck in all the cables. No eggs knocked for that.

5 out of 5 eggslow cost, fast, but get latest drivers

Pros: I used in a low cost pc I built for a neighbor.
Low cost, realtek based wireless adapter.
Fast and good connection, I moved the box around our house connecting to Netgear N900 and had as good or better connection than other mobile devices in my home. When signal was low, just move the dual antennas around until the signal is higher.

Cons: With the drivers on the mini-cd, while they installed and worked, I was locking up when using the device manager to examine the driver details (win 7 x64). After installing the least drivers directly from realtek, all issues went away.

Other Thoughts: If you are installing for win 7 or win 8 - ignore the mini-cd that comes with it, ignore the drivers on Encore's www site. Go directly to realtek, and download the latest drivers for RTL8192CE-VA4. You will find it under wireless drivers for the IEEE 802.11b/g/n Single-Chip product. These drivers are more up-to-date - the ones on both the CD and the Encore WWW site are older versions.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat wireless adapter

Pros: Great wireless reception, I get much better internet then my laptop. Though their could be better ones out their, this is my first build and it works great. Easy to install even for beginners like me. Nice easy installation as long as you can get it from another computer with a flashdrive

Cons: Need to play with it for awhile to get it in the perfect position for internet. If not in perfect position, you will loose some internet speed. But it is manageable to work with so i'm not taking an egg away

Other Thoughts: Works great, I would recommend it to a friend or to any of you new egg shoppers

1 out of 5 eggsChipset issues

Pros: Decent reception. I consistently have 4 or 5 bars even 50' away from my router with two adobe brick walls in the way.
The price would be nice -- if it worked.

Cons: Like many of the other reviewers stated, this thing has major speed issues. It usually hovers around .5 - 1.5 Mb/s and will occasionally burst up to 5 - 12 Mb/s (I pay for 20 Mb/s) but never for more than a few seconds. The upload speeds seem to be unaffected, and are usually HIGHER than download speeds.

From my attempts to find a solution, I have found that the chipset (Realtek RTL8192CE) this card uses seems to be the source of the problem. I don't know the exact issue, but there are a lot of complaints across multiple wireless cards using the same chipset.

Other Thoughts: I spent nearly two full days trying EVERYTHING to get this card to function. I messed with the settings on my router, the card, and tried multiple drivers. Nothing worked.

I know it's an issue with the card and not my router because my laptop worked like a champ, even with lower signal strength.

I decided to take a chance on this card despite the large number of negative reviews because the price was so low. Don't make the same mistake I did.
