Great Repeater
- Pros: Reviewing all the AP's available on Newegg, this one looked the best. I am very pleased with it, as it cranks up the wireless signal in my house. Menus were good, setup time was quick, lots of functionality. For easiest setup, go to the website and get the PDF manual. Set static IP to match the AP, which is set to 10.0.0.200. Once you get connected, setup is very straightforward.
- Cons: I had trouble connecting to the AP, until I discovered the IP address. I would dock a star, but I am very happy with the device otherwise. No buggyness or clumsyness to complaim about.
- Other Thoughts: Be SURE to check that your router supports WDS if you want to use this thing as a repeater. Luckily mine did. Just for clarification, in Repeater mode, the Zoom shows up as its own access point. It does not simply extend the router, but sets up a new connection point after amplifying the signal. I know some people want to be able to roam freely across access points, but as far as I know, this is not how repeaters work. You must reconnect when you move.
Works Great
- Pros: This thing was super easy to setup and worked correctly the first time. It is small and compact and fits perfectly behind my entertainment center. I love this product and the fact that it can be used as an access point, wireless adapter or repeater is a huge plus.
- Cons: None, supr easy to setup
Amazing AP and can't beat the price
- Pros: This device is great, definatly glad I went with it over linksys or dlink. Happy with the customizable features, and ability to check logs when connecting to it via telnet. Telnet gives more options for config then the http pages. I read a review here where people were complaining about having to plug a computer directly to it to configure it, but thats only for initial config. Once you set the IP up on your network you can connect to it remotely.
- Cons: None so far!
- Other Thoughts: I'm used to configuring Cisco 1100 and 1200 APs at my job which by default have a 10.0.0.* IP just like this ap so that didn't bother me. This is definately a good ap for someone with some technical/networking experience. But the web interface is simple enough for non-technical users also.
