2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7722UTn N300 USB 2.0 Mini-size Wireless Adapter

Pros: Was delivered on time.

Cons: Had trouble getting this to work with Linux, uses Broadcom chip.

Other Thoughts: If I hadn't had to try and set this up remotely over the phone, I probably could have made it work. .

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Chris,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing in using our adapter in Linux.

The adapter does not use Broadcom chips. EW-7722UTn v2 uses Realtek RTL8192CU chipset.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well on Linux

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7722UTn N300 USB 2.0 Mini-size Wireless Adapter

Pros: I've been meaning to write a short review on this for a long time. Since I saw some comments saying it does not work on Linux I figured it was about time to review it. I've had it for 3 years (bought from newegg for 8.99). I currently use it with an old dell vostro 220 I'm using for HTPC, running Linux Mint 17. Prior to that it worked fine on W7 on the same pc. I've also used several versions of Ubuntu (up to 13.10). Maybe it's dropped the connection a couple of times over the last 3 years--but I really am not sure. It's always a solid signal for me.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I don't know about the latest ubuntu release, but I know for a fact it works perfectly on Linux Mint 17 (64 bit cinnamon)--which is a new release.

3 out of 5 eggsNot for GEEKS

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7722UTn N300 USB 2.0 Mini-size Wireless Adapter

Pros: Works well with Windows OS as stated.

Cons: Works intermittent with Linux OS...it's a pain.

Other Thoughts: I guess I'll just keep it...not worth paying shipping to RMA product. For Windows OS
ONLY until improved driver for Linux is built.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing in using our adapter in Linux.

The Linux kernel supported by our driver is 2.6.19 ~ 3.9.

If you have a newer Linux like Ubuntu 14.04 Kernel 3.13, then our adapter may not able to support it.

If you need any further assistance, please contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with any issues. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

2 out of 5 eggsDropped Connections

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7722UTn N300 USB 2.0 Mini-size Wireless Adapter

Pros: Installation was easy

Cons: I bought this adapter to replace a 150n adapter. The new 300n adapter connects slowly and runs erratic speeds and then drops entirely. It will reconnect later on it's own. I guess I will have to go back to my old 150N adapter.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing.

There is a short USB wire came with the EW-7722UTn adapter. Please use that USB wire for the USB port of your computer. It will help the EW-7722UTn with better reception and faster speed.

If that does not help, please contact our tech support at (408)-988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with any issues.
We look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well (blue LED super annoying) - Follow Up

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7722UTn N300 USB 2.0 Mini-size Wireless Adapter

Pros: Connects to my router at the advertised 300mbps.
Extremely stable so far.
Decent range.

Cons: Bright blue LED that never turns off and is super annoying and is worth not buying the product just to not have that constantly running.

Other Thoughts: This is a follow up to an earlier review. I've been using the product for a while now and have found the connections to be very stable. Again, the only issue with the product is the blinking blue LED. I have mostly solved this for myself using a bit of masking tape and some black primer spray paint. Now I only see a bit of the blue light.

The manufacturer replied to the original post by suggesting a USB extension cable to hide the LED. I use this on a laptop, so that isn't really viable. The real question is why anyone would want a big blue LED to indicate network traffic. Just tell me when there's a problem, not when it's working...

The real fix for this would be to add an option to the driver to disable the LED like these guys are doing to their Pi machines. http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=31391&p=364295

I've bumped up the rating on this review as I found a reasonable work around with the spray paint. If the manufacturer would add a fix to their driver, I would easily give it 5 eggs.

I get that the blue led is not a defect and is there by design. It just happens to be a terrible design decision to not give you the option to turn it off (the brightness of the LED is quite impressive).

From the raspberry pi write up, it does appear it would be possible to disable the LED via the drivers. Hopefully a driver update comes out at some point that enables this.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry for the issue you are experiencing.

The blue LED indicates that there are traffic through the wireless adapter.

You may use an USB extension cord for the USB port of your computer. Connect EW-7722UTn to the other end of the USB extension cord. Then you can move the EW-7722UTn on the USB extension cord away from you.

1 out of 5 eggsNot that good.

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7722UTn N300 USB 2.0 Mini-size Wireless Adapter

Pros: Cheap
Software installed easily.

Cons: It would constantly drop connection to the net. Whether it was hooking up through the router or directly from the modem wirelessly.

Other Thoughts: I had bought this hoping to keep from having to run a wire across the middle of my living room just to have net access on my second PC. That didn't pan out as the device will not keep internet access for more than five minutes before cutting out.

It could be the routers/modem I tried, but it was the same result with 2 modems and 3 different routers of varying combinations.

On a small plus, it doesn't block any additional USB slots if you use the extender that comes with it. This wire wasn't a part of the issue though as the device dropped regardless of how it was plugged up.

1 out of 5 eggsThis adapter drops to 1Mpbs in using

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7722UTn N300 USB 2.0 Mini-size Wireless Adapter

Pros: looks cool

Cons: This adapter have never worked. When in use, it's speed quickly drops from 300 to 1Mpbs. My laptop internal one is instead stable at 54Mpbs.

I have emailed the manufacture to see what they will say.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing.

The adapter should not drop the speed like it. This is abnormal.

We have 2 years warranty for our products.

If you need our further assistance, please contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". We look forward to the opportunity to serve you.
