5 out of 5 eggsWOW - this is almost like having a ethernet cable connection!!

This review is from: Edimax EW-7822UAC Wireless AC1200 Dual-band USB 3.0 Adapter, Complies to Draft 802.11ac Standard, Delivers More Than Two Times Faster Wi-Fi Speed Than 802.11n, With Adjustable Foldaway Antenna for Optimum High Performance

Pros: The speeds tests results has jumped from 600 kb/sec to 8MB/sec
Very easy to setup & configure

Cons: It cant make me breakfast in bed :-(

Other Thoughts: My wireless router is a Tplink AC1200 Gigabit router and I knew that it was possible to improve my wireless speeds by upgrading my usb wireless adapter for my laptop.
My Toshiba satellite a665 which has a built in Intel wireless card was just limping along and as a test I used jdownloader to pull various files off different sites to see how much speed it was showing. It showed that my laptop's wireless was limping along at 150-600kb/sec (max) compared to my desktop speeds of 10MB/sec on Comcast.
After installing this adapter the speeds tests results has jumped from 600 kb/sec to 4-10MB/sec but mostly stable at 6MB/sec
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm using the laptop while laying in bed and there is a danger that the usb card can be broken off since its hanging off to the left corner of the laptop and I think its best to have it mounted on top of the laptop screen.
So now all I have to do to complete my laptop configuration is to get a 1.5Ft USB Male to Female extension cord and a piece of velcro so that I can put the USB wireless card on top of the laptop and this will eliminate the risk of it breaking off from the corner while putting it on a higher position and get optimal signal strenght.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: - Runs on USB 3.0
- Getting my proper speeds (125Mb down / 30Mb up)
- I'm downloading my games @ 15 MBps on Steam. -drool-

Cons: - None so far. Does what I expected it to do.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to pick up 2 more of these bad boys and put them on my other systems that aren't dual-band. Works great so far, and can't think of anything negative to say about it. Using non-dual band wireless, I was getting 20-30Mb down, and with this I'm getting my full speed of 125Mb down. I'm about to upgrade to 300Mb service, so I'll let you know how it goes with that.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely Great

This review is from: Edimax EW-7822UAC Wireless AC1200 Dual-band USB 3.0 Adapter, Complies to Draft 802.11ac Standard, Delivers More Than Two Times Faster Wi-Fi Speed Than 802.11n, With Adjustable Foldaway Antenna for Optimum High Performance

Pros: works great with my entry level PC, almost keeps the same speed as an ethernet cable. Works with Windows 10, and so easy to set up (literally just plug it in and it works)

Cons: nothing, it's a little bulky I guess but oh well

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent value for the price!

Pros: Works perfectly with Windows 10!
Easy Plug and Play installation!

Cons: Nothing comes to mind.

Other Thoughts: My prior WiFi adapter (Netgear WNDA3100v2) constantly "disabled" after upgrade to Windows 10, connections would drop randomly and Adapter Settings would constantly change from "disabled" to "enabled" and back, sometimes 15+ times in a day - it was driving me crazy! Tried multiple drivers and reinstalls, nothing was working - so I decided to switch to this little Edimax.
Windows 10 recognized it right out of the box, no driver installation necessary, and it has been working flawlessly since installtion! No more dropped network connections!
For the price, this little guy does not dissapoint!

5 out of 5 eggsEl Capitan Ready

This review is from: Edimax EW-7822UAC Wireless AC1200 Dual-band USB 3.0 Adapter, Complies to Draft 802.11ac Standard, Delivers More Than Two Times Faster Wi-Fi Speed Than 802.11n, With Adjustable Foldaway Antenna for Optimum High Performance

Pros: Wanted to post update about installing under el capitan.I was able to get this working in el capitan, heres how i did it. Its very easy to do.
disable csrutil via recovery mode prior to installing via pacifist. To disable csrutil, (cmd +r during boot, takes you into recovery mode then at the top of this screen look for utilities then open terminal and type in "csrutil disable." Note says successful then you restart, then I installed 10.10 driver via pacifist then reboot again. Here is how to do pacifist install.
1) download the driver for your Wifi stick

2) download pacifist program

3) open the installer.pkg file from the driver you downloaded in pacifist, and select to install to default location, and use administrator privilege

4) reboot

Cons: Neine

5 out of 5 eggsOS X all day!

Pros: Works on my imac osx yosemite install. Im sure antennae increases reception. Utilizes the bandwidth of usb 3.0. I got this to hook up to xfin wifi hotspot on my imac. These wifi hotspots only allow portable devices and sees the wifi hardware on my imac as a non-portable. At least thats what i think was happening. If you go to xfin website you'll notice theres no part about how to connect a desktop, its all laptops, android and ipnones. My neighbor agreed to let me piggy back off their built in hotspot so i have a zero dollar internet bill and 15 mb down and 2 up. Im quite happy.

Cons: Edimax website says driver works with 10.10, no driver for el capitan. That didnt stop me from trying though. So a few installs of el capitan and yosemite later 10.10 is a go, 10.11 not yet. Im sure drivers will be released soon and i knew it wouldnt work with el cpaitan before i bought it.

Other Thoughts: 27" imac 2014
i5
8gb ram
1 tb HDD

4 out of 5 eggsGreat value but not as fast as expected.

Pros: USB 3.0
Cheap
Fast
Win 10 comes with drivers
Easy to set up
AC1200 (300Mbps on 2.4Ghz and 867Mbps on 5Ghz)
Adjustable, foldable antenna

Cons: Bulky
Not as fast as expected.

Other Thoughts: USB 3.0 was not as exciting as I first thought.

First of all this adapter has a maximum theoretical speed of 867Mbps on 5Ghz and 300Mbps on 2.4Ghz and instead of USB 2.0 it comes with a USB 3.0 connector. USB 2.0 has a maximum throughput of 480Mbps and USB 3.0 5Gbps (over 10 times as fast), however in testing this adapter was no faster than my current USB 2.0 AC 1200 adapter. The reason for this is that due to the nature of WiFi it is unlikely that even in optimum conditions to see a network speed of 50% of the maximum throughput. And this was confirmed with my testing. I have a pretty good router, the Asus RT A66U which is AC1750 and tested the throughput of the wireless adapter using software called Lan Speed Test. In my office which is around 65ft from the router I returned maximum speeds on 5.0Ghz of 70Mbps and 134Mbps write and read and when I tested at 20ft from the router I returned speeds of 112Mbps and 143Mbps write and read. Don’t get me wrong, this is 4 times faster than 2.4ghz speeds at the same locations, however not as fast as I would have expected and no faster than my older 2.0 USB adapter. Having said all of this, this adapter is extremely good value, my 2 year old USB 2.0 adapter is still twice as much.

It was very simple to set up on my Win 10 laptop. Plug and play, no drivers required. Windows recognized the device immediately.

Great value, little bulky and reasonable speed, however I think that USB 3.0 is more of a gimmick for now. Still if you have a USB 3.0 port on your pc or laptop no real reason to buy a 2.0 adapter when this is for sale.

2 out of 5 eggsWell...

Pros: Good strong speeds. Sort of.

Cons: This reincarnation of the adapter has issues that I didn't experience with the older version. It falls apart. Ordered two of them, they sat in a desktop case and still managed to fall apart. Like they open at the seams and get all kinds of wobbly.

Connections start off strong but begin to degrade if getting hammered on, like say in online games or real large downloads.

Other Thoughts: First gen version served admirably. This, not so much. Replaced them with another brand and have had none of the above mentioned cons.
