2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work

This review is from: Edimax EW-7822UAC Wireless AC1200 Dual-band USB 3.0 Adapter, Complies to Draft 802.11ac Standard, Delivers More Than Two Times Faster Wi-Fi Speed Than 802.11n, With Adjustable Foldaway Antenna for Optimum High Performance

Pros: Fast when it worked

Cons: It doesn't work after 2 months. Since the beginning it was giving me problems in Windows 10 but I got it to mostly work. It still took a long time to actually get connected to the Internet once I started my computer. Other adapters almost instantly connect. Now it seems to be broken. I'm getting errors saying that the hardware isn't connected. My drivers are up to date and I also tried uninstalling the latest Windows update.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsSlow speed.

Pros: It works

Cons: Everything else. I use it with a AC 1750 router in a 2 story home. The router is in the basement while I use the adapter on the second floor with a Windows 7 PC. The wireless adapter only goes up to 180mbps when using a 2.4 ghz signal but does not pick up a 5.0 ghz signal from the router. My old $10 cisco adapter gave a consistent 300mbps speed during its 3 years of working before crapping out recently thus I was looking for a new wireless adapter. This wireless adapter has been dropping speed alot, going all the way down to 15mbps which is atrocious.

Other Thoughts: I would not buy this product ever again nor recommend it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Terrence,

Thank you for supporting Edimax.

Our adapters does not support 5GHz DFS channels 52-140. You may need to log in to your router and change it from "auto" to a fix channel such as, 36, 40, 44, 48, 149, 153, 157, 161, 165. In addition, you may want to try updating the driver from our website below.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Choice by Far..

Pros: Quick Easy Install
Connects right away
Quality Built

Cons: Little on the bulky side (blocks USB port)
Antennae was frustrating to open

Other Thoughts: Literally just got it and had to start this review, beats what I previously had in mind with a powerline setup which limited my connection to 50mbps then this for a similar price point got me to my 125mbps. Will wait a little longer to see if its worth deducting an egg due to blocking ports or if has any possibility of dropping connections.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with Windows 10

This review is from: Edimax EW-7822UAC Wireless AC1200 Dual-band USB 3.0 Adapter, Complies to Draft 802.11ac Standard, Delivers More Than Two Times Faster Wi-Fi Speed Than 802.11n, With Adjustable Foldaway Antenna for Optimum High Performance

Pros: -Simple to use
-Easy Install
-Very fast

Cons: -Cannot seem to reach the highest speeds it states it can.

Other Thoughts: Works with windows 10. Just plug it in, preferably in a USB 3.0 slot, and connect to the wireless router. No need to install drivers from CD if it is Windows 10.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks better then I expected

This review is from: Edimax EW-7822UAC Wireless AC1200 Dual-band USB 3.0 Adapter, Complies to Draft 802.11ac Standard, Delivers More Than Two Times Faster Wi-Fi Speed Than 802.11n, With Adjustable Foldaway Antenna for Optimum High Performance

Pros: Supports Win 10, USB 3.0, Very fast with a good connection, I can play COD WAW & BF4 without network lag (as long as the network signal and speed are good - strong and the network speed is fast enough). I can connect to my phones 4g LTE hotspot and enable the 5g 802.11 ac frequency for even faster network speeds over my phones data which allows me to play my online games without issue as long as a txt or call don't come in during gameplay which only causes a slight hiccup. Oh, and the price was right for what I wanted.

Cons: Can't think of any at the moment, haven't owned it long enough.

Other Thoughts: For it to work for me on Win 10 were I got good signal and speeds from it for the network I'm connecting to I had to uninstall the drivers for it before I upgraded to Win 10 then just used the plug N play in Win 10 for it to work for me. When I tried to upgrade to win 10 from win 8.1 without first uninstalling the driver, after installation of 10 I went from a 4 bar signal to 0-2 bars on the same network connection I've been using till I did it they way I explained above. Now I get 3-4 bars in win 10 and i'm running off a wifi hotspot that is 1 or 2 floors above where i'm currently living. nice. I also get anywhere from 36mbps - 148mbps speeds depending on the time of day, weather, and any other interference that will hinder my speeds and connection.

3 out of 5 eggsToo big, blocks other USB ports

This review is from: Edimax EW-7822UAC Wireless AC1200 Dual-band USB 3.0 Adapter, Complies to Draft 802.11ac Standard, Delivers More Than Two Times Faster Wi-Fi Speed Than 802.11n, With Adjustable Foldaway Antenna for Optimum High Performance

Pros: Worked well, simple & easy installation.

Cons: This adapter is so wide that it blocks the other USB port on my laptop. Even a USB 3.0 extension cable wouldn't fit next to the Edimax. Consequently, I was unable to use any other USB device while the adapter was plugged in.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this to anyone if, and only if, the distance between the USB ports on their device is at least 0.5 inches or ~1.7 cm.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Larry,

Sorry to hear you were having issues with our EW-7822UAC.

If the size of our USB adapter is causing issues for you, we would recommend a USB extension cord.

If you still have any questions or issues, please contact our customer service at 1(800) 652-6776 or write an email to "support@edimax.us ". We will gladly assist you.

4 out of 5 eggsA fast USB 3.0 adapter, but currently no support for OS X 10.11 or latest Linux kernels

Pros: It's a modern, fast ac-1200 adapter that works fine once I got my Linux desktop to recognize it.

Cons: It took some initiative on my part to get this adapter to work at all. This adapter won't be recognized by either OS X or Linux without installing the drivers first. Problem 1: no OS X drivers for version 10.11 (the latest Mac OS) so it wouldn't work with my MacBook Air.

Problem 2: I use openSUSE Tumbleweed which is a rolling release and uses the latest Linux kernel which is 4.4. The drivers downloadable from Edimax's website are for kernel 4.2. In addition these drivers aren't installable and have to compiled first. Not a big deal if one knows how to do it. A call to Edimax tech support confirmed that there are no drivers for OS X 10.11 and none for Linux for kernels newer than 4.2 and they didn't know when they would be available. Besides, I was unsuccessful in building the Linux drivers for the 4.2 kernel I downloaded from Edimax (not really surprising).

Thanks to the helpful people at openSUSE forums, I was directed to a link on github that contained a driver for the Realtek 8812AU chipset used by this adapter. It compiled fine and the adapter started working.

Other Thoughts: Edimax's claim that their adapter works with OS X and Linux comes with some caveats.
