The RT-N53 dual-band router is from the award-winning Black Diamond series of ASUS routers. The dual-band connectivity enables both 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless transmissions. 5GHz makes content streaming incredibly smooth, which is especially useful when watching videos through Web sites like hulu or other high-definition media sites. 2.4GHz offers compatibility with most devices, and both transmissions can run simultaneously to deliver essential compatibility with performance. Featuring an exclusive built-in 2 internal antenna, the RT-N53 features Ai Radar, for omnidirectional circular coverage as opposed to a limiting horizontal signal for optimal connectivity wherever the router is placed, especially useful for multi-level houses or buildings.

With multi user support up to five SSIDs, connect up to four wireless networks on 2.4GHz and one wireless network on 5GHz. Customize each user's bandwidth and access privileges for each network. The RT-N53 router also features robust parental controls for you to set time and Web site access for each SSID. Product setup is CD free and quick. The Graphical User Interface (GUI) to customize settings is intuitive for users at any level. Boasting a standalone wall-mountable design, the RT-N53 router has a unique lattice glossy style that suits any room or office with a modern appeal.

  • newegg Dual-band Connection for Lag-free Entertainment The RT-N53 doubles your wireless performance and bandwidth with simultaneous 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, with speeds up to 300Mbps concurrently. While basic internet applications like browsing or file downloading can occur in 2.4GHz, wireless HD content streaming takes place in the 5GHz band at the same time, so both achieve optimized speeds and you get to enjoy smooth, buffer-free HD content streaming.
  • newegg Optimal connections with two internal antennas The RT-N53 features two exclusive internal antennas with Ai Radar omnidirectional coverage which provides optimal connections wherever your device is placed.
  • newegg Multi User Support With multi user support up to five SSIDs, the RT-N53 can provide one wireless network on 5GHz and 4 wireless networks over the 2.4GHz band, which provides separated connection priorities and access rights. For example, High priority and both network (private and Internet) access are perfect for managers, while middle priority and private network work great for staff, and low priority and internet access only for friends and guests. Protect computers from unauthorized access, hacking and virus attacks.
  • newegg Plug-n-surf and Hassle-free Management ASUS QIS and EZ UI offer you an intuitive router setup without reading manuals. Open your browser, then the QIS wizard will guide you to quickly connect to the Internet, regardless of what OS you use. The intuitive user interface provides a graphical network map, making wireless setup, QoS and client management clear and simple.
  • newegg Clever Wall-mount design The clever wall-mount design allows you to mount it onto the wall providing great convenience for your cleanup (mounting kit sold separately).

2 out of 5 eggstitle description was someone misleading...

Pros: cute

Cons: didn't have DDWRT as I thought it did from the wording of the listing...

Other Thoughts: Really disappointed to have confused myself with the title, it said DDWRT open source support, but that didn't mean DDWRT was already installed as I originally had thought reading the somewhat misleading title

1 out of 5 eggsGet What you Pay for!!! Can't get any help from ASUS

Pros: Newegg delivered in record time as always.
Pretty Blue Lights

Cons: MY 5GHZ CHANNEL DOES NOT WORK AT ALL!!!!!
Outside of 30 day Newegg Return Window as I was in no Hurry to install as this was an add on that I didn't nesc need.

Other Thoughts: 5GHZ Channel Does not work at all, I have upgraded to the latest firmware and done everything ASUS has suggested but can not get 5 GHZ to broadcast. It Actually does not even show a MAC Address for the 5ghz channel like it does the 2.4 and Ethernet channels. Still in 90 day warranty period but I know how ASUS is with warranties due to my two different Nexus &'s that I had to fight with them over.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Jeremy,

Thank you for your time on posting this review, we are sorry to hear your experience with the ASUS router. Please allow me to assist you.

You mentioned that the 5GHz is not working and you called the hotline for assistance do you have case number that I can use to review and check the troubleshooting steps provided? how is the light indicator of the router? have your tried doing a hard reset or move the router to a different place? how far are you from the router when you are trying to connect to your 5GHz frequency?

4 out of 5 eggsI replaced the firmware immediately with Tomatoe, so I don't know if the ASUS firmware was as bad as other reviewers have said. With the third party firmware, I have nothing but good tings to say abo

Pros: Super cheap. Fairly easy to install Tomatoe firmware.

Cons: No supported version of DD-WRT, which is what I originally bought it for.
With the third party firmware, the 5ghz band seems not to be working, but all in all, this hasn't affected functionality.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a G router running DD-WRT, so the jump to N is great. I don't have much experience with higher end devices to compare it to, but I have had no performance issues or glitches.

1 out of 5 eggsBought 3 refurbish Trash.. at $21 a peace Awful and bad

Pros: When it works its great

Cons: All 3 of them Drop wireless signal and some time total freeze out. Have to turn it off and back on few times a day
I have done firm updating and reset many times..

Other Thoughts: Maybe new one works better. I'm so mad at myself for buying refurbish. I did not return them but trashed them..my bad

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Armed,

Thank you for your time on posting this review, we are sorry to hear your experience with the ASUS router. Please allow me to assist you.

I understand that you are disappointed with your purchase. Can we have a detailed information about the router's issue? May I know also the steps that you have taken to try to fix the unt's issue? was the router's firmware updated? change channel bandwidth? can we also have the unit's serial number for me to check and verify the unit's warranty in case we need to process an RMA.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks great as access point

Pros: $24.99
Good wireless range
Looks brand new for refurbished router.
$24.99

Cons: Only 100Mb Ethernet, but fine since I am running Fast Ethernet network and not Gigabit.
Did not come with Ethernet cable.

Edit: Crashes pretty frequently requiring hard reboot. Flashed Tomato Shibby firmware instead, seems to have solve dissue.

Other Thoughts: Very for access point with good coverage. Asus firmware has easily accessible option for access point that configures WAN point as a LAN port and automatically disables DHCP.
Cannot comment on performance as a router.
Update firmware when you get it to mitigate security vulnerabilities.

Maybe use custom firmware.

5 out of 5 eggsused as a repeater

Pros: Price.
Wireless repeater works well. It repeats a single band's SSID across to both 2.4/5Ghz bands. The names can all be the same or different, as you choose.

Cons: 100Mbps WAN/LAN ports.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you get the latest firmware from the ASUS website as the auto check firmware will not update automatically.

2 out of 5 eggsNOT for a household. Good for a few connections.

Pros: Small size, neat design, easy to setup, stays cool

Cons: Loses connection often, can't handle more than 2 or 3 devices without dropping connections, unpredictable/unreliable performance. Very disappointed, as I love the ASUS brand. I feel like I threw my money away here :(

Other Thoughts: I bought this router knowing that I was getting a quality item. I couldn't stress my disappointment enough. I purchased this router and didn't hook it up for a few months. I know my way around electronics and routers. This router couldn't handle several connections, not even downloading much other than web browsing and one Netflix movie.

I feel like I threw my money away with no way to get something else I can rely on. My view of ASUS is a little tainted, and I'm thinking twice about buying the two laptops this holiday season they have... Brand reliability is important, but avoid this router. It is not worth throwing your money away.
