1 out of 5 eggsDefective Unit

Pros: Features

Cons: It was dropping wireless connections- started after setting up occasionally, it was dropping VPN connections and audio/video conferencing. Starting video conferencing would knock the router offline and affect all devices in the house. It became so frequently that I can't stand it anymore (of course it's past the return window) and deemed it a defective device. And I've tried resetting to factory defaults, updating firmware, and even AsusWRT Merlin firmware.... made no difference. After replacing it with a Netgear Nighthawk- issue resolved!

Other Thoughts: I would avoid a refurb unit, buy new and get a warranty beyond 90 days

1 out of 5 eggsstarted out great

Pros: so when I first got this just over a yr ago it worked great.Fastest router I had ever had and the features were great.

Cons: About 4 months ago it would randomly stop letter traffic through but still had strong wifi connection. a reboot would 'fix' it but this started to happen about every 2 wks. yesterday it happened again and when I power cycled it went into recovery mode (slow flashing power light). Used ASUS recovery program to upload firmware and now I have a fast flashing power light and cannot connect to it anymore....assuming it is bricked? with a 90 day refirb warranty from newegg not much I can do. looks like I should have taken to heart what many other reviewers had indicated......

1 out of 5 eggsGreat for 6 months, now a doorstop.

Pros: I bought this on Newegg Flash, knowing that it was refurbished and it was Great router while it lasted.

Cons: Died after 7 months. It was rock solid for 6 months., then one day the wifi died and the router needed to be powered off and on to restore wifi. About two weeks later it happened again, then a day later the router failed completely, both wifi and wired networking was down. A restart did not solve the problem.

Other Thoughts: I am going to be very wary about ASUS products going forward, so far two out of three ASUS products I have purchased have failed prematurely, a motherboard (new) and now this router (refurbished).

3 out of 5 eggsRouter body works, but its adapter doesn't

Pros: No scratches, good appearance even refurbished.

Cons: Like other(?) refurbished router, adapter doesn't work. You may need buy a new adapter.

Other Thoughts: If you willing to replace its adapter, go for it. It values its price.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Router After ROM Change

Pros: This router is very good with DDWRT running on it. I did not like the simplified ASUS software that is meant for basic settings with most of it left to default. DDWRT allows everything to be tweaked and also has default settings you can rely on. With the other routers I had the WIFI dropped off at 20ft with 2 walls on my older home.

I get 12-40mbps now when the best I could get before was 3-12mbps with other routers. If you want, use the stock software as it is simple to set up. The router never stalls nor any dropouts, etc. Most typically I get 20mbs on my Lenovo laptop which has a weak wifi receiver (known Lenovo issue) so that is very good for it.

Cons: Maybe its the DDWRT or the router, dunno, but I have had to install the firmware a few times.

Other Thoughts: There are other aftermarket firmware to run on this you might like better. I think Tomato, something like wizard, etc. I have had every type of router on the planet and configured them. This one is way up there on the list. I think that you have to spend a few duckets to get a decent router. The 20 something 40 something routers just don't cut it even at refurbished prices. My Roku streaming device runs perfect now with this router but before it was constantly problematic. I got rid of my range extender too. I recommend backing up your DDWRT config and researching the right one for the router before you install it. It is a pain to recover the firmware. Incidentally, ASUS can recover this from DDWRT to ASUS which is how I have redone my 2x. There is ASUS recovery software, then you just put DDWRT on it again. Once I can't remember why I had to reinstall, 2nd time was after a DDWRT upgrade attempt by me.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking great!

Pros: -Super easy setup
-Excellent UI
-Stable
-Good wifi range
-Dual band
-Customizable with 3rd party firmware

Cons: none I can think of

Other Thoughts: I use this in a workplace environment to repeat free wifi and extend the range. Without it I am lucky to get 1 bar. With it I get a fairly stable 3-4 bars, very nice. Multiple users are connected to it all day streaming, with low throughput (free wifi).
I had issues with a fork of Merlin firmware. It constantly dropped the signal. Flashed back to stock and had no issues since.
The setup was the easiest I've ever seen. I took 2 days to set up DD-WRT with the same AP due to unexpected DHCP settings. This connected, grabbed the relevant info from the access point (Cisco business class AP) and filled the info in itself and just worked. ASUS software is top notch in my books. It is now repeating using it's own DHCP server, which is required to work with the AP and something the Linksys repeater I bought previously (re6500) could not do.
The Android app works quite well with this and stock firmware. It makes a great repeater.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good!!!

Pros: Ordered this router about 2-3 months ago and so far it's going strong as it was before!
- Read reviews how this router would die within couple of months so I took the chance and ordered it and so far it's doing well!
- The packaging was very well and it looked brand new (even though it's refurbished)
- Somewhat easy to install
- Great for multiple devices.
- For the 2.4ghz/5ghz I use the 2.4ghz for all mobile devices and laptops. For the 5ghz I use that only for gaming which is connected to my Xbox One and PC. Before I had this router my Xbox connection would always stay at strict NAT so whenever I hooked this router up it changed to Moderate which helped me a lot! I could finally join parties and talk to friend!
- Overall a good router so far!

Cons: I only have two dislikes which are:
- How the AC adapter is really small and skinny and I'm worried to slightly move my router because I don't want the AC adapter to bend.
- Where the power button is located right next to the AC adapter. AC adapter is an "L" shape so it'll get in the way of the power button.

Other Thoughts: I give this 5 stars because it hasn't randomly turned off like my old one and also how it's been doing after reading all the bad reviews.

JUST IN CASE, I bought the 1 year warranty with it, which I believe was maybe $5-10. In case this router glitches up, I'll replace it with the warranty since I'm actually in love with this router.

5 out of 5 eggsBought 12 months ago, consider it good value

Pros: Have had this for just over a year without any problems. Usually have eight to twelve devices -- desktop, laptops, tablet, smartphones, BluRay player, printer -- connected at any time, some wired, most wifi. Wifi download speed is about 20% slower than using the ethernet ports. Easy setup, good speed, plays well with Zoom 5341J modem, price was right.

Cons: Have not had any problems

5 out of 5 eggsGreat router at a can't be beat price

Pros: - long range - penetrates throughout my 3 story house and covers yard with usable signal
- Can see it adapt to each position as you run speed test consectutively
- bought a second as a spare
Good user interface to set up

Cons: - not for non technical people to set up - lots of options some items not obvious but not hard to figure out or google.

Other Thoughts: - can't use as repeater unless you flash with DDWRT
