3 out of 5 eggsGigabyte users beware

Pros: - Two Gigabit connections in the space of one
- Solid feel to the card (not that that means much).
- Works in the old Dell Dimension I threw it in to test.

Cons: - POST fails on my Gigabyte EP45-UD3 (rev. 1.1) (which was the computer I bought it for).

Other Thoughts: When I start my desktop with this card installed, all I get is lights and fans; nothing on the screen, and definitely no booting. I removed every other card installed (except for graphics, but at that point, I don't care anymore). I tried it in every x1 slot. I disabled the internal NIC. I disabled a host of other internal things. No joy. (It seems like mine is not the only Gigabyte board this has failed on, either.)

I proved to myself the card worked by installing it in an old Dell I have and it worked fine. I'll keep it around for novelty's sake until I find a new home for it (next desktop?).

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to hear that the device did not work as you had hoped.

Perhaps there was a slight configuration issue which caused the POST failure.

Update the motherboard/BIOS, and ensure that any system updates have been installed.

Allow the system system to install the latest generic device drivers for the chipset.

Thank you for purchasing one of our products, and for leaving us your valuable feedback.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work

Pros: Price

Cons: Did not work. put it in 5 different workstations and they all refused to boot. Now it could be that I received a defective one, but it didn't even say SYBA anywhere on it, it came in a box labeled infozone. Returned it to get a more reputable intel adapter (even though they are more expensive)

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Perhaps there was a compatibility problem between the motherboard PCIe bus and this card.

Update the motherboard/BIOS and, ensure that any system updates have been applied.

5 out of 5 eggsMy Purchase

Pros: I just wanted to write this review to confirm that this card does indeed work in ESXi 5.0. Also, mine came with the low profile bracket. Both, big pluses for me.

Cons: Came in a box that wasn't S*BA, was a little concerned at first, but everything works so I won't complain too much. When I first plugged in the LAN cable on both ports, one port would only connect at 100 Mbps - half duplex under ESXi; but I changed the setting from auto negotiation to 1000 Mbps - full duplex and it switched right over, verified with the virtual OS that this was correct. I then went back to auto negotiation and it connected at 1000 Mbps, something to look out for.

Other Thoughts: I have a Virtual Host Server with two virtual machines installed and I wanted each to have their own port, which is why I bought this. It won't do all of the cool stuff the more expensive cards will do, but that's probably why the price is so nice. I don't need any of that stuff, I simply needed two gigabit Ethernet ports on the same NIC because I am out of slots in my machine; perfect for me.

2 out of 5 eggsBought for VMWare

Pros: None as of yet for me. If I was using it in a non VMWare environment or in an older version ESXi it should work fine.

Cons: Not VMWare compatible after ESXi 5.5. It was depreciated. So if you're looking for VMWare compatibility for 5.5, don't get this card.

Other Thoughts: I had recently built a new PC and bought this card for my old hardware in hopes of turning it into a VM box. The Onboard LAN of my motherboard wasn't supported by VMWare, so I got this. To my surprise VMWare recognized my onboard fine, but not this card.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Please note that this is due to the chipset limitation.

RTL8111E does not support a VMware environment and there are still troubleshooting options for an ESXi environment.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: fairly cheap and fast.

Ran flawlessly out of the box on Ubuntu 13.10
It has two Ethernet ports which both have different IP's.

Cons: Does not support Teaming, bonding, Failover, or any other dual port technology-

My computer: Gigabyte Z87X-D3H with intel i7-4770K would not boot when the integrated Intel NIC and this card Sy-PEX24028 were both enabled.

Other Thoughts: Using it with a private network. Too bad the computer wouldn't boot with the integrated Intel NIC--would love to be able to use the another port.

1 out of 5 eggsIncompatible

Pros: Cost effective dual ethernet.

Cons: This works fine with any board but the Gigabyte A85x and A88x chipsets.

Windows 7 and Linux both do not see the card on the PCIE bus.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

This may be due to a limitation by the chipset.

Please ensure that your motherboard/BIOS is up-to-date and that any system updates have been applied.

You may also need to manually install the drivers to ensure optimal results.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent cheap card for Windows

Pros: Inexpensive dual port gbit card. Works fine in Windows.

Cons: Cards are detected under ESXi 5.1 and below, but will fail if you extend the MTU beyond 4096 bytes. VMware has since dropped this chipset from the official release as of 5.5. Cards will work fine with 1500 byte MTU, but cannot handle jumbo frames.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We understand that at times the chipset for our cards can cause compatibility issues with

certain systems and devices. We encourage you to check the chipset for these cards to

determine if they are compatible with your system.
