1 out of 5 eggsBuy with caution

Pros: none

Cons: Bought two of these to use with two new SonicWall TZ215 firewall units with the goal of setting up a guest wireless network that was isolated from our secure corporate wireless network at each of our locations. The guest network isolation works well, but unfortunately there is no way to allow our secure corporate wireless users access to our LAN resources such as file servers and print servers unless SSL VPN is used. This is because the current firmware version (5.9) requires each wireless VLAN to be on its own IP subnet and it can't share any part of the IP range in use by the wired LAN. SonicWall tech support was a complete waste of time and no help at all. After investing a lot of time trying to solve this we gave up and are using another brand of access point. The SonicPoint might be fine if you don't need to allow wireless users access to wired LAN resources, but in a business environment doing so is a minimum basic requirement that apparently is not supported by the SonicPoint. I am a 15 year SonicWall user and have set up around 25 SonicWall based networks and could not get this issue resolved even with the help of SonicWall tech support.

Other Thoughts: Makes an irritating, high pitched fan noise.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth any money

Pros: Long range, but utterly useless. I work in IT. I have done many wireless setups from low budget to enterprise.

This thing beams the signal out far, but it drops so many packets that is is far from usable at any range.

Cons: Constant Packet loss and unreliable. It is managed through a sonicwall firewall web gui. A sonicwall certified technician came out and configured it....it appeared to work, but after being connected for just a couple of minutes, the connection started dropping packets. Tried to configure it myself...same results. Called sonic wall, they configured it...same results. ...And SonicWall does not answer the phone. Hold times are at least 60 minutes (even after opening an initial case number). Email has been non-responsive thus far.

Other Thoughts: Newegg is great, and anything that I have ever bought from them, they have made sure that I am satisfied with. Unfortunately, this product was bought by my employer and not through NewEgg.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy Setup

Pros: Setup AP in 5min. Strong integration with Sonicwall OS - Security Services, Separate Zones, Manage 16 APs, Unified Management, many options, etc. Good distance and strong signal. Made for SMB to Enterprise grade networks.

Cons: Requires Sonicwall Security Appliance - not meant to be an independent device. Definitely need Sonicwall networking experience. This is a professional product and not a "DIY" device.

Other Thoughts: Never setup a SonicPoint device before but I am an experienced Sonicwall administrator. Read 2 pages in the included booklet and got it running in 5min. Good device.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Device

Pros: Runs rock solid with 65 devices connected
Easy to manage with Sonicwall firewall interface.
Good range and Dual Radio channels with tools to optimize performance.

Cons: Documentation could be better
Requires Sonicwall firewall device to manage and configure.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this device inspite of some of the negative comments below, as I trust the Sonicwall devices. Most negative comments seem to be about not being able to use this as a stand-alone device or being able to easy to configure. This is not for home use or for an average home user. And this device works in tandem with Sonicwall Appliance and making it work stand alone requires some knowledge and work.
For businesses that have already invested in Sonicwall, this is best hardware one can get for wireless. I have tried few other products, but I find this more reliable and consistent.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy

Pros: Might, possibly, work with Sonicwall- but only if their website is working (which it wasn't), and their tech support got back with you (which they don't)/.

Cons: Let's see. Just getting a basic setup with an internal wired/wireless took about five hours of labor over a couple days- the routing management on a TZ 215 is very different from most other products. It might, possibly, present some power I'm not used to on a Cisco or Symbol box, but the added headaches are not worth it.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy. I'm told that the Sonicwall products are fine for firewalls, but I will likely return the TZ 215 in favor of a Microtik or similar product.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Device!

Pros: Easy setup (if you know how to setup SonicPoints with a SonicWALL)
Reliable
Fantastic Connection where others failed

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Just installed this on my network, and I'm very pleased.

PLEASE know that this is NOT a stand-alone device to be used to replace your home Linksys or D-Link wireless router. Go to Best Buy and let the "Geek Kids" educate you on what to purchase.

For the rest of you with a compatible SonicWALL device, this puppy rocks! Don't know if this has the issues with the last version of "locking up" (fixed by using narrow-band and specific channels), but I'm looking forward to putting this one through the tests. I must say that I'm VERY pleased with the range and speed of this device compared to my last SonicPoint. Looking forward to testing in a mixed SonicPoint environment, also.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat AP

Pros: EASY setup if you are not a total fool. This is not intended for you to get for your house. Make sure you have a SonicWall firewall and you actually know how to configure it.

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: People who give this a bad review because they have no technical skills should not be allowed to write reviews. Do not buy this for your house unless you have an actual sonicwall firewall.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Access Point

Pros: If you buy this as an access point AP as in the description this is a great Access Point. Works great with the TZ-210 I bought for my client previously.

Cons: If your a moron and buy this as a home wireless solution you may have problems. It aint that. This is an addon to an established network for wireless access.

Other Thoughts: Read about a product before you buy it and then bad mouth it. It makes you look very stupid. One because you spent all that money on something you know nothing about. Two it makes you look like an idiot when you complain about it and how much you spent.

SonicWall has great products if you are a communications/network professional. I hope they continue to do so under Dell, crossing my fingers.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's working now.

Cons: Made by dolts. How on earth can you sell a $600 access point without documentation? That is the most ignoramus thing you could do. Then expect to pay for a "maintenance incident" to say where you might be able to find the documentation on their website? It's even more infuriating that they don't put the documentation on their website where it can be easily found. All of that is compounded by the fact that the intentionally did it that way! How much would it cost to put a 3 x 5 inch post card with the default address on it so we can configure the device? Nothing! That's how much!!

Other Thoughts: For those who are hanging on every word of my rant.....

The default IP address is 192.168.1.20 with I assume the subnet of 255.255.255.0. The user name is "admin" and the password is "password".

And though I appreciate the young lady emailing "everything I need", what she sent didn't work. I stumbled onto an overview guide and inferred the answer.

Enjoy

Pros: PoE. Lot's of antenna's.

Cons: There's no useful documentation with it. On the upside, after registering on their website I'll get plenty of spam by email and regular mail!

Other Thoughts: I would have had a $30 AP running in about 6 minutes. For about $600, I'm scratching my head wondering what I got in to. After 30 minutes, I hung up on customer no-service.

Does anyone have a clue about how to get into the management utility?
