5 out of 5 eggsOwner

Pros: In place for three years without a single issue. In fact, I am buying a second one for our colocation. Customer service has been very good.

Cons: None so far.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible experience with this product

Pros: Price in comparison to other equally spec'd products. The onboard OS is very easy to work with and offers allot of functionality only found on higher end units.

Cons: Slow performance, I mean slow. We couldn't get it to work efficiently on our network. Even working with tech support. we couldn't get it to work right. They blamed our ISP and DSL modem. I replace the DSL modem with no positive affect.
After installing this firewall, all 5 of our computers stopped updating their Kaspersky antivirus. It would simply time out. Browsing content rich websites wouldn't load, they simply time out. Most sites that would load, would take 30 to 90 seconds to load.
I understand UTM Firewalls do allot more scanning, but we did allot more configuration changes and tests that I'm not listing here, it was ridicules. Even tech support couldn't get this firewall tuned right to work fast enough to be usable.
I put my old Watchguard X15 back online and everything worked as expected.

Other Thoughts: This firewall seems to be either woefully underpowered or I got a defective unit. I returned it. Thanks to Newegg, I wasn't suck with a rotten egg.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Seller was great. Arrived fast. Device was easy to configure. Using it on home network so it has a lot more functionality than I actually need but very satisfied.

Cons: None. Only had it a month so we will see how it goes. So far so good.

4 out of 5 eggsNot for beginners but cost effective features

Pros: Cost and features: Gateway security subscription, SSLVPN, Global VPN, LDAP and RADIUS integration. Subscriptions for content access.

Cons: Can be confusing for non-techies. I still get lost in NAT policies and bandwidth management rules on more complicated setups.

Other Thoughts: Not the easiest firewall to get around. If you use the wizards you should be fine. Other complicated networks need some knowledge of NAT policy and access rules.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Firewall Appliance

Pros: Much faster throughput than Zyxel USG 50. IDP/ADP pulled 5 meg of bandwidth through USG50 and tech support did not have a fix. All other factors being equal, far superior device and I am pleased thus far. Fairly easy to configure and support is in place for ipv6. Updated to newest firmware and all is well.

Admittedly, I have much to learn, but i am impressed. Note: I bought with AV, IDP, Anti-Malware, 24/7 Support - annual service and I am glad I did.

Cons: None...at this time. The interface connection times-out, but that may be my settings.

3 out of 5 eggsCool

Pros: SonicWALL has a pretty cool interface. I love when firewall manufactures develop a web interface for management and not use Java for everything... 'cough, cough'. I have been using this device for about a month and its been stable. Object based firewalls are great and SonicWALL has it. Extremely easy to manage and updating is simple.

Cons: No IPv6 support. I spoke with SonicWALL and they stated they would support IPv6 soon; still haven't seen it. I was hoping for more Packet tracing tools with SonicWALL. I really miss Packet Tracer on Cisco devices; but not enough to keep purchasing them. Console access is not as good as I would like. VPN concentrator is garbage. Not a big fan of NetExtender.

Other Thoughts: I great firewall for people who want play with a real firewall. Also, it would be great for small time businesses or SOHO offices. I hope Dell turns SonicWALL around a little. IPv6 support would make me buy another one.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat when it works

Pros: Newegg RMA is easy. newegg is sending a replacement as soon as they receive the defective unit.

Cons: Had this up and running for almost 2 weeks before it just died. Was plugged into a battery/surge backup. Plugged it directly into the wall and tried a power cord from another TZ105 and would not power up.

Other Thoughts: Have been using SonicWall for years hopefully this isn't a design flaw in the new TZ105 series and the next one keeps working...
