5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Software that comes with is very easy to use. I've been able to pair with a computer in the room next door. I'm a fan of the foldable design. Much better than having a cap that can get lost.

Cons: Nothing.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy It

Pros: Cheap

Cons: It doesn't matter how chep this is, because some of them out there came with duplicate dongle number and it only work as on evaluation mode (5MB) last only 2 minute. I call tech support. Just a short explanation, they already knew. It seems that they have this problem from many customers, and they ask me to ship it back (of course on my cost), then they will replace it.
There are other review from prople with the same problem, I should have read those before, there are still lot of them have same issue out there would you take the chance? Think about it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: Cheap

Cons: None as far as I'm concerned.

Other Thoughts: I bought this so I could download ring tones to my cell phone. Plugged it in, XP saw it, and I was ready to use.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great on MacPro

Pros: Took it out of the package, stuck it into a front USB port on my MacPro (that doesn't have built-in bluetooth) and within 1 minute had my Logitech MX5000 keyboard and mouse working great. The Bluetooth logo in my OS X menu bar even now has the Bluetooth logo, just like if it had built-in Bluetooth.

Cons: None that occurs to me at the moment.

Other Thoughts: Yes, I know the MX5000 comes with its own Bluetooth dongle. I also know that if you roll your desk chair past your computer with it sticking out of the front and hit it with your shin it tends to snap off!

Note: I do NOT have the Logitech software installed on the MacPro because I now use the MX5000 with my MacBookPro (with built in Bluetooth), so I can't say if this device would or would not work 100% as a replacement for the original dongle that came with the MX5000.

3 out of 5 eggsGood start up

Pros: Good product, good price. I installed on two of my xp computers, a desktop, and a laptop. First tried to use the software included, but this is a waste of energy; just let windows to install the drivers and it runs good. recognized my pda, cell phone instantly.

Cons: The included CD is a scam. Do not even try it. Destroy it.

Other Thoughts: Newegg shipping is outstanding. This is my second time purchasing here, both have been timely handled. Great site!

3 out of 5 eggsYou need Service Pack 2!

Pros: I installed this thinking Xp would recognize it right away as others have stated. However I learned, after three days of working with it, that you need Service Pack 2 for it to be recognized. Otherwise you have to use the terrible software that comes with it(and it only last for 5mb I believe). After I installed Service Pack 2 it worked fine despite the fact that I then discovered Verizon Wireless cripples the BT capability of its cell phones so you cant send files back and forth from a PC. In addition the transfer speed for printing is just too slow.

Cons: Need Service Pack 2

5 out of 5 eggsDON'T LOAD THEiR DRIVERS

Pros: Works great as long as you just pop it outa the package and let XP SP2 (or Vista) find OS drivers for it.

Cons: Their drivers and software DON'T WORK. This product should be sold without anything but an instruction sheet on how to set it up using XP and Vista and the resident drivers.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to use in a laptop to talk to a Canon MX850 (all in one printer) with a BU-30 (BT adapter). The Aluratek said to load the included CD. It was warped and made horrid sounds in my drive. Went to the homepage and DLd the drivers and sftw. Installed. What a hassle to set it up! Never WOULD talk to the Canon. Canon manual said I needed to register the printer in the BT category of the CTL PNL, but there WAS no BT category there. Uninstalled ALL sftw/drvrs for this device, rebooted, let XPSP2 find OS drivers. It not only loaded good drivers, but the BT category appeared in CTL PNL where it belonged, and I was able to register the Canon as the Canon manual directed. ALL WORKED FINE. Price is great, especially after rebate, but THROW OUT THE CD!

4 out of 5 eggsHardware Works (XP only); Software is a Throwaway

Pros: Works (with Windows XP) right out of the package.

Cons: Included software is trialware only and worthless.

Other Thoughts: The Aluratek Bluetooth USB adapter was instantly recognized by two of my PCs that each have Windows XP loaded. I just plugged it in and let XP load the drivers. I strongly recommend that you do NOT follow the enclosed directions and install the enclosed software first. Their software is unnecessary (for XP users), is trialware only (you'll have to fork up $39 to unlock the full version), and provides no real advantage over using the Bluetooth icon in your Control Panel to link external devices.

Operating range varied from 2 feet to about 30 feet, beyond which the link started dropping off.

The device is small enough, comes with a swiveling cover that you won't lose, and an indicator light.

It's certainly worth the price - even before the rebate.

I tried to install it on a desktop with Windows Vista Pro and was unsuccessful. I don't think there are valid drivers for this device in the Vista suite.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works great once software works.

Cons: Missing software license.

Other Thoughts: This product has been distributed sans license for the Bluesoleil software, leaving the software in evaluation mode. The evaluation mode lasts all of 2 minutes (5Mb of data transfer). I obtained a license for the newer software, and it works great with the adapter; I have succesfully paired my Motorola W385 and my no-name headset to my laptop. Most people will have to purchase a new license, which is a major downer. I have not tried the product with other Bluetooth adapter software, but I saw that some are distributed as freeware, one only has to download them.
