Abit is taking wireless to the next level with their AirPace PCI-e adapter. The AirPace takes advantage of PCI-e's dedicated data path to eliminate any internal bottlenecks in moving data. The remote antenna maximizes range and speed by getting the antenna out from behind your PC and letting you mount it for best reception.

The Wireless AP software lets you make your network wireless without having to buy a wireless router. When used in conjunction with abit's AirPace Music you can stream music to your main music system.

WEP and WPA encryption algorithms are included to protect your data. A secure network also guards your bandwidth by preventing unauthorized users from piggybacking onto your connection.

  • newegg IEEE 802.11b/g Compliant Compliant with the IEEE 802.11b/g protocol, the ABIT AirPace Wi-Fi smoothly integrates into any existing wireless network with up to 54Mbps data transfer speeds.
  • newegg Software AP With the bundled Software AP utility, you can turn your PC into a total access point using the ABIT AirPace Wi-Fi. Not only the hard drive and internet connection but also the peripherals (e.g.: printer etc.) of your PC are fully accessible.
  • newegg Wireless Security The ABIT AirPace Wi-Fi supports WEP and WPA encryption for maximized wireless network security.
  • newegg PCIe 1X Interface Featuring the PCI Express interface, the ABIT AirPace Wi-Fi delivers faster data rate than legacy PCI cards for uninterruptible data transfer. This adapter card is broadly compatible with PCI Express X1, X4, X8 and X16 slots.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding

Pros: Absolutely wonderful product. I am on the second floor and my router is in the basement and I still get more than 90% signal. Also comes with some very cool utilities that show some information and allow you to control your computer as an AP.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: My PCI-E x1 slot is right under my video card, but because this is so small, it doesn't pose any problem with cooling at all. Great Product. Get it.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: Excellent signal strength, discrete profile, it fills the almost useless PCI-E 1x slot on my mobo.

Cons: Included drivers are useless in Vista, do not even attempt to install them! Even though the abit website has ZERO mention of this product anywhere, go to the forums and find the airpace products section. There people have posted the proper Vista drivers. Install that and then you're home free.

Other Thoughts: Awful support from abit, I do not like having to rely on the technical prowess of other users for fixing something that the company should have easily done.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

Pros: works fine in Nforce 4 MSI board with cd drivers. No issues in installation. Havn't tried the AP software and no real plans to do so. Didn't have any incompatibility issues with installation. Tiny format, external wired antenna and PCI-e x1, all make it a good card.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Big rebate makes it cheap and it works great.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat card and nearly fre at the time

Pros: good range, moveable antenna (as opposed to the little peg on the back of the card), cheap, easy to set up

Cons: not as fast as a hard wire (but that's expected), antenna wire could have been a bit long

Other Thoughts: I really like this and it gives me a reason to use one of my PIC-e x1 slots, which keeps a PCI slot open for whatever. Good product

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: Great product! Went from a PCI adapter to this great PCI-E adapter and my signal went from constantly very low and disconnecting to constantly excellent and very good. Even the dinky looking little antenna is great, I replaced it with a brand new 8db antenna and the signal wasn't even as good, so I went back to the original. All in all, a great product, my online gaming experience is going to finally be a happy one.

Cons: The antenna looks funny.

Other Thoughts: Thanks newegg!

4 out of 5 eggsLinux support lacking

Pros: Very good reception, easy installation etc.

Cons: Linux support is not good right now. It uses an Atheros chip, but it is one that is not natively supported yet. NDISwrapper seems to work though, so it's OK.

Other Thoughts: Works great in windows.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks in Win2k, with a little help

Pros: Seems to work well, now that it's installed correctly. Very fast, great signal strength.

Cons: Tricky to get working with Windows 2000, and conflicting info about compatibility. Included utility doesn't have network manager, so you need to download a 3rd party one.

Other Thoughts: After reading in several reviews (not on Newegg) that this card works in Windows 2000, I was disappointed to find that the utility wouldn't start. Installing Service Pack 4 and all the updates solves that problem, but Win2k doesn't have a dedicated wireless network manager like XP and Vista. Download a 3rd party one (Like LucidLink) and it works great.

3 out of 5 eggsTo 64 bit Vista users: BE CAREFUL!!!

Pros: It`s made by ABIT, works in my MSI AM2 690G board, works with Vista 64 (with some caveats), uses an otherwise worthless slot

Cons: The supplied software sucks, a royal PITA to get working, signal strength isn`t nearly as strong as the SMC adapter it replaced, the drivers on the disk are absolute poison to Vista 64. On a side note, I`d love to be using an ABIT 690G-chipped board, but inexplicably they do not have one!

Other Thoughts: If using Vista 64, you need this: AirPace_XP5.1.1.10_Vista1.0.116.20_U1011_20070329. After several futile attempts to get the adapter recognized by Vista 64 using the on-disk drivers, I went online (using a different PC!) to the ABIT forums. I discovered that many folks are having the same problem I was. They provided a link to the drivers I mentioned above, and, after a FULL re-installation of my beloved Vista 64, I finally got the AirPace to work. If you use the wrong drivers, you have to un-install them, and go into regedit and delete all references to the AirPace, then install the proper drivers. I searched for at least an hour, and couldn`t find anything in the registry, so did the re-install. Don`t be like me! Find and use the correct drivers! I love ABIT`s stuff, and really wanted to love the AirPace. I just can`t rate it 5 eggs, not so much because of the trouble setting it up, but because it simply doesn`t put out nearly as strong a signal as my SMC did.

3 out of 5 eggsworks most of the time

Pros: Good range, external antenna. Leaves a PCI slot for other use.

Cons: Doesn't always start up. I am using this in a media center PC and it has came up without seeing the card a few times. I have checked the system board and made sure the card is seated correctly. Not much I can do, wish I could find another pci-e card. Seems to happen when comming out of suspend mode more often. A full reboot solves the problem, but is annoying.
