3 out of 5 eggsgood cheap wifi router

Pros: Real cheap, easy to set up

Cons: Nothing yet.

Other Thoughts: Come two hours ago, plugged it in, used the easy setup which came up so as i clicked on Internet explorer on my laptop, got rid of my comcast xfinity $10 a month Wifi modem, got a deal off a deals site for a $49 Surfboard modem. Been using a cat5 cable till the router came. 3 minutes set up and working fine. My Tablet sees it and online, and both my phones. Got it on the deal $5 with $5 rebate. Too lazy to deal with the $5 rebate. Saw the mixed reviews, might flash to the Netgear firmware, but if its working, leave it alone. Bricked a few things in the past with firmware updates. It's set now so ill just forget it. But it's a nice little hide away Wifi router, The box is 10x bigger than it needs to be, It's funny when you open the box and see it!!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the free router

Pros: Got 2 for $5 each but the $5 MIR was only 1 per adress. Was going to return the other but for $5 its pretty sweet. As others have said stock firmware is trash. Flashed netvear firmware using netgear's guide here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22688/~/how-to-upload-firmware-to-a-wndr3700v2-router-using-tftp

One thing-for most people u:p is admin:password
For my routers u:p was admin:admin

Netgear interface is nice.

Cons: Does take a little work to make product work well but $5 for decent hardware? Worth it. Speed is 150mbps but i knew that going in so technically not a con but be aware.

Other Thoughts: If on rebate again will buy more.

1 out of 5 eggsPiiece of junk!

Pros: None

Cons: I was able to log into the router. Once I got to it's internal setup page, any link that I selected did not work.

I paid $7.99 for it. I'll process the $5 rebate on it. It appears that it will cost me more to return it than what I paid for it.

5 out of 5 eggsInexpensive Solution for Apartment or Small House

Pros: Very low cost basic router, simple to use.

Firmware update smooths out performance.

Can be repurposed as a wireless access point to extend range of your existing router.

Cons: Being limited to N150 speeds means it works OK for one or two people but not a houseful of devices sharing bandwidth.

Other Thoughts: As always with any product that's been available for a while check for a firmware update to get the best performance from this unit. If you live in a small home and you have "starter" broadband internet service then this little stand-up router can do a good job for you.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Router after Firmware Flash

Pros: Solid and very fast after the Firmware Flash. Netgear: user: admin password: password

You can even set this sweet little router up as a repeater for a faster connection. No complaints from me but I've been in the IT industry over 20 years. Netgear GUI is very solid and I am getting over 40mb p/s download speed using Wifi.

Cons: Very Solid with Netgear flash to upgrade GUI.

1 out of 5 eggsWhy Are You Still Selling These?!

Pros: It was good while it lasted. Decent range for the price.

Cons: NO LONGER SUPPORTED BY ON NETWORKS AS THEY WERE BOUGHT OUT BY NETGEAR! And NetGear wants you to pay them so that you have access to YOUR OWN ROUTER! No thanks. So as of right now, I can't access my router interface at all because I am not paying a 3rd party for support. DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER!

3 out of 5 eggsMight be worth the price paid?

Pros: Cheap or free. This router is pretty basic. Never used the OEM firmware. Immediately upgraded it to the NETGEAR WNR612v2 v1.0.0.3 firmware. Firmware is easily changed using these instructions: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22688/~/how-to-upload-firmware-to-a-wndr3700v2-router-using-tftp. All the weird voodoo tricks you might find in the reviews or on the 'Net to upload the firmware did not work for me.

Cons: I bought this router so I could always have one in my bag of tricks. Testing it at a location that already has WiFi to see if I could solve range and connectivity issues. WiFi speed is abysmal. Even putting my devices right in front of this router did not improve the transfer rate. And the "farther away" router is still faster everywhere. Unless you are getting this for free (like with a rebate), in a package deal, or maybe if you don't have WiFi already, I would pass on it.

Other Thoughts: I'm giving it three eggs because it works, cost next to nothing, and was easily updated to the NETGEAR firmware.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome little open source capable router for a rocking price!

Pros: It just works! Has on and off button compared to most other routers so a reset is easy in the dark or in a tight spot since you dont have to pull the plug and push it back in to reset. THE BIGGEST PRO and why I bought it is that its compatible with Open-WRT while being insanely cheap! This router is very similar to another famous brand router supported by Open-WRT but if you are trying to put open wrt on it keep in mine this has its own seperate firmware package from the other popular brand router thats similar to it. Took me awhile to figure it out but after I found the right firmware just went to the update page in the routers config stuck it there and let it rip! Nothing special needed to flash it which is great!
Overall build quality seems good no complaints there. But be sure to set the wireless to Channel 6 and 40mhz otherwise you wont be able to get the full 150mbps. Took awhile messing with it before I was able to discover that issues as I was only getting a 65mbps wireless connection.

Cons: Only 2 Lan ports but I knew that when buying it which for the price dont get me wrong im not complaining! Wish newegg would have let me buy more than 2 while they were on sale!
The factory firmware I had issues with some config pages not loading after messing around with it for awhile, Open-WRT does not have this issue.
Only 150mbps but that was all I needed as most of my devices max at that.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 (the limit). At the price I paid I couldnt resist with it being on sale with a promo code. Would have bought more if they would have let me!

4 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

Pros: Was able to re-flash with the WNR612v2 firmware which eliminated the rather ugly On Networks interface. It's good for applications like a cheap repeater or spare router.

Cons: Not too much to it but the device more than met my low expectations.
