5 out of 5 eggsIt really works

Pros: If you are wasting money on a land line ,cancel and get this. Just as good as land line and is free after the 39.99 .

Cons: No 911 unless you pay 12.00 $ a year.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great so far

Pros: - works well with Google Voice
- good price and quick shipping from Newegg
- is UNLOCKED so it can be used with other VOIP providers
- low power consumption (~1 watt)
- good quality audio on 1.5Mbit DSL service

Cons: - not completely plug and play, you have to create GV, Obinet accounts online and register. Actually pretty straightforward.

Other Thoughts: - Not sure why my last review disappeared - my OBI100 was purchased by someone else on Newegg and shipped to me.
- GV has a very large pool of PSTN numbers to choose from, just select a number local to a family member or friend for them to save on their phone bill as well.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well, so far

Pros: - Works with Google Voice, which provides incoming call notification/forwarding, voice mail, voice-to-text transcription (wow!) and free domestic outgoing calls.
- Unlike the plug-and-pray competitors IT IS UNLOCKED. You can use it with other providers than GV in case the latter makes undesirable changes.

Cons: - none so far
- not plug and play, you have to create GV and Obitalk accounts online for setup and registration. No credit card required unless you want to use GV for international calls.

Other Thoughts: - Requires an Internet connection speed minimum of 100kbps. My 1.5MB DSL 'upload' (outbound) speed maxes out at 360kbps - no worries. Test your own service at speedof.me and elsewhere ...
- GV allows you to choose your own PSTN number from a very wide selection of area codes/prefixes; no need to 'port' your existing number. I chose mine to be a local call at a distant family members city. Research phone number prefixes at localcallingguide.com and other sites.
- Actually, I am an owner from NewEgg but received it as a gift from a family member.

5 out of 5 eggsHeck yeah

Pros: Says what it does and does what it says.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Aside from the tedious google voice landline number transferring process. This thing will eliminate your need for a landline and the call quality is the same as Comcast.Forget Magicjack or Nettalk.Obihai is the way to go.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy and great land line alternative

Pros: Works just like a home phone. (except no 911) Sound quality is perfect, You will never know it's a viop

Cons: Can't think of any

Other Thoughts: I bought this so I can have long conference calls and to have a phone in the house for my son to use any time. I liked it so much I bought a couple more for friends. I used google voice and it works great.

4 out of 5 eggsAfter 3 months

Pros: Pure crystal clear quality. Easy to use. Portable. Works for fax too. Closest that you can get to having a landline at the price of a month from a landline cost.

Cons: Slight static but is UN-noticible, compared to MJplus and other Viop that I have used for the past 7 years.

Other Thoughts: My brother in law was going to try 5 years ago but he didn't he chose some other Voip that are no longer around. Danm it, he should have chosen this from the get go. However, once you are settle you are good to go. You can even receive a call on your cell if you are not Home/office, so this unit is great for business people like me. I leave at home connected to the fax and I tend to ask ppl to send me the fax while I'm away from home, but I see it from my camera. It doesn't get any better than this.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding Voice Quality - Blows away my NetTalk and MagicJack

Pros: Easy Setup, Great Google Voice integration, Amazing Voice Sound Quality and Clarity, Great Voice Volume on both caller and receiver's end of conversations, No Monthly Fees for GV phone service, Free Obi to Obi Direct phone calls anywhere in the world, FULL DUPLEX audio conversations just like a real landline phone, Fax Compatible, supports up to 2 SIP Providers at the same time, 98 number Speed Dialing, Caller Number ID and Voice Mail Alerts on your phone display (if your phone is capable of displaying them. Voice Mail Audio Alert as well via "Stutter" Dial Tone when getting ready to make a call, and the list goes on and on

Cons: NO 911 or E911 Service, BUT, you can add it via a SIP Provider for about a dollar per month or so if you must have it for some reason. Otherwise, just use your Cell Phone for 911 Needs. Any old Cell phone (active or inactive) can always dial 911 in USA.

Other Thoughts: Just some background, I have a Magic Jack (older one that requires a PC to use it) and a NetTalk DUO that connects directly to my Router. I have used them both for a couple of years now, and the NetTalk Duo works extremely well compared to the old Magic Jack. I have pretty much disconnected the MagicJack device and have been using the NetTalk Duo as a 2nd line and Fax Line, but those I call from the NetTalk Duo say that my audio is low on their end. On my end, I can usually hear them just fine. The NetTalk is costing about $30 per which is not too bad, but I wanted to find a way to have good quality calling for free if possible and eliminate my $30 per month Ma-Bell bill as well as the $30 per year NetTalk Bill.

Some research on my part uncovered the Obihai Company and the Obi100 VOIP unit. With all of the great reviews, how could I go wrong! I purchased 3 of these with the intention of equipping my home, my son in the military and my mother with free calling between these units using the ObiTalk Network, as well as anywhere in the USA and Canada via Google Voice Network(still free for the rest of 2013 and hopefully beyond)

Setup of the Obi100 was a breeze, and I linked it to Google Voice which also has outstanding Call Routing, Voice Mail, Notification, Transcription and other cool features/services all for free (at least through 2013), so that is hard to beat.

Best of all, the Audio and Call Quality are TRULY AMAZING!!! Believe it or not, they are much better than my expensive Ma-Bell landline, and the audio volume is loud and clear as well as being Full Duplex just like a traditional landline phone. I found that the NetTalk and Magicjack behaved more like a speaker phone or walkie-talkie allowing audio to travel only in one direction at a time which is very hard to get used to since you tend to cut off each others sentences when holding a conversation with these other devices.

The Obi100 does not suffer from these problems at all, and there appears to be virtually no audio delay. Also, since my son is in the service, it's very convenient for him to take his Obi100 with him and connect it to the internet wherever he is in the world, and he can enjoy instant phone service and we can directly dial each other's Obi Units and talk for FREE on the ObiTalk Network at any time.

I'm in the process of porting my home phone number to the Obi Google Voice Network (via a temporary porting to an old TracFone first as Google Voice will only allow you to port Mobile Number into Google Voice a this time)

There is a great Obi Forum, tons of youtube.com videos on these devices and how to use them with a variety of SIP VOIP Providers as well as free Desktop, iPhone and Android Phone Applications that all integrate with the Obi products.

Purchasing and Installing this Obi100 Device was one of the Best Decisions I have made so far in 2013!!
