4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: Works Perfectly in Ubuntu since 10.04.
Works in Windows when you have the driver installed.

Cons: May NOT work previous to Ubuntu 10.04. 8.04 Definitely did not work. 9.04 and 9.10 were both hit-n-miss with hardware.

Other Thoughts: Windows doesn't have the drivers in a CAB somewhere. If this is your only WiFi card, be prepared to transfer drivers.

1 out of 5 eggssoft-ap fails

Pros: None

Cons: Worked as a soft-ap for awhile then couldn't connect.
There is no troubleshooting so just discard and buy another.

Other Thoughts: You would think these companies could make something that would last as long as a pc or a lap-top. The smaller it is the less quality they put into it. Now I have to randomly pick a new soft-ap device and hope it works more then a few months.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: Good little drive; plugged it in, Windows7 recognized it and set it up with generic drivers and working great. I carry it with me when troubleshooting on-site in case the unit can't access the internet through the onboard NIC.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsPacket Injection

Pros: This is small and capable of packet injection. USB extension cable included.

Cons: Not incredibly strong signal. It's a bit wide, so if you have two ports side-by-side, you'll need the USB extension cable.

Other Thoughts: This is a great tool for techs to have in their pocket. Works well under BackTrack 5, installs without drivers in Windows, and it's super cheap. If they built a USB key and a screwdriver into it, it would be the perfect PC troubleshooting tool.

2 out of 5 eggsDead within a year

Pros: Was very cheap and easy to use. Originally I was satisfied with the product.

Cons: It is slowly and surely failing me. Over the past month, its performance has been degrading. While I am still able to use the internet, I cannot download a file and browse with an explorer at the same time. The display showing signal strength has steadily declined despite neither the PC nor the wireless router moving.

Other Thoughts: I have owned this adapter for 10 months, but in this modern age I expect more longevity from my technology products. Still, for those who want a cheap solution for moderate internet use, this device will probably suffice.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Support out of the box for Backtrack 4 and Ubuntu 10.04.
Works with all the tools in BT4.
Can't beat the price either.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Never bothered to try it with windows.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks great for wireless/sniffing, not so much traffic across WLAN

Pros: Small and compact, doesn't require driver install on Vista/Windows 7 boxes. WLAN traffic from machine to internet is great; I have yet to experience any lag or dropped signal, zero disconnects and solid connectivity.

Cons: I cannot get this thing to work well with other devices on the network. Tried both Windows drivers and recommended drivers on TP-LINK's website, still produces extremely slow data transfer across WLAN (will copy files at only around 30-40 KBps max from wireless device -> router -> server.) Will continue to experiment with changing MTU size, etc.

Other Thoughts: I was hoping to use this for my HTPC connection to my server, but the data transfer just ruins it compared to my other cards. Will end up keeping it for on-the-job wireless troubleshooting out in the field.

4 out of 5 eggsnot bad at all

Pros: Does what it says. Nice and portable

Cons: software is confusing. kinda bulky when you have multiple usb items plugged in.

Other Thoughts: Other than the cons, it's a great product. Hadn't had a problem with it at all.
