5 out of 5 eggsGateway FX laptops still a great machine

Pros: Great price point, tons of features.

Cons: May have trouble running the newest games at high resolution. But only a handful will truly tax the machine.

Other Thoughts: If you pick up one of these older Gateway FX laptops, you won't be disappointed as they are great machines and easily upgraded. There really isn't another laptop out there that has the specs of these FX laptops, especially once you upgrade them. The main drawback at this point, is that they will have trouble running the newest games at high resolution. I am on the cheap side of things, and I tend to buy older games at low price points so this does not affect me. Most of these systems will run games up to 2012 just fine, unless you are talking about the most graphic intensive hardcore games. If that is the case, you are better off getting a newer laptop.

I absolutely love this thing, especially the HDMI out and my BluRay player. I basically use this as a bluray player for my at-home needs as well as my portable work station.

My current Rig:

P-7811FX
360gb SSD
BlueRay DVD Player
17" WUXGA
True HD resolution 1920-1080
HDMI Out
eSATA In
PCIe external
Bluetooth internal
Intel Ultimate 6300 Wifi Mini PCIe
Intel x9100 3.07GHZ overclockable

**The 7908u here does not have true HD 1920x1080 like my P-7811FX**

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Laptop!

Pros: Fast; well-made; DDR3; Windows 7; Reliable; expandable Hard Drive bay

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my Fiance' so she can play games as well as work with a machine that is nearly as powerful as a Desktop. 260M driver update went smoothly, and I installed another HDD to store all the games on. She loves it almost 2 years later!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I bought this laptop as a replacement for my desktop since I started traveling often. It runs all the games I've played very well: COD4 and 6, Mass Effect, etc.

Cons: Sometimes the power cable connection is touchy, comes unplugged easy. The battery also sticks out from the back which isn't a big deal until you try to find a case for the laptop, you'll need something that can fit a 17.5" laptop to get the extra space for the battery.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Gaming System

Pros: Excellent bang for the buck! Great video card, decent amount of memory and a good size hard drive. This laptop has been able to play every game I've thrown at it (Crysis, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Guild Wars, SW: The Force Unleashed, Assassins Creed) with no issues and very respectable frame rates. Runs the same as a desktop 9800GT. I was worried about the 5400RPM hard drive so I bought a 7200RPM and i really can't tell a difference between the two. This system is very snappy and I have had no lockups or blue screens. Bloatware was minimal and easily removed. Shout out to Newegg for the excellent service and fast shipping. Ordered on Friday and was drooling over it on Tuesday...

Cons: Screen resolution is 1400 x 900, seriously ACER I think you guys can do better. Location of the LAN port. LAN cable can get in the way of your mouse. As others have said its a fingerprint magnet, but easily fixed with a low-lint cloth.

Other Thoughts: I did not experience any of the sound issues others have had, but I did immediately install reference drivers from INTEL for the MB, NVIDIA for the GTX260 and Realtek for the HD sound so that may be why. IMHO ACER could have made this system $1300 and put a decent res screen to take advantage of the GTX260. And all they had to do to address the LAN port is swap it with the modem port. Honestly does anyone use dialup anymore. Overall a killer system for the price, don't think twice just get it...

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: This laptop has it all and for a price one can afford. Their customer service is wonderfull. I had a problem with a bad memory stick in mine and sent it off to be fixed. Had it back in 5 days, all at no cost to me.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Dont know why the other guy had bad customer service problems, they are top notch. The model I own is the 6860, this model is the same with newer parts.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Runs all valve games, TF2, CSS, on high settings. It even runs the new Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta on high-ish settings. Great keyboard, and its nice having all of the fn + commands.

Cons: Trackpad isn't too good, but yet again, most aren't. standard laptop speakers, nothing too good. Fn key and ctrl key are a bit close and takes a while to get used to.

Other Thoughts: Love this laptop, besides the longish shipping on rush delivery, It's great, i highly recommend

5 out of 5 eggsGateway FX are rock solid

Pros: Fast Processor
GPU
HD space
Fast Ram
Also being upgradable for processor, ram, optical drive, and the ability to add second HD or replace current one.
Styling is also quite stunning
Battery life (4 to 5 hours normal use, 3hrs gaming)

Cons: I honestly have yet to find any at all.

Other Thoughts: This thing is fantastic. Stays cool during games, has tons of outputs. I have tested it quite heavily on Crysis and Crysis Warhead and must say it runs it almost maxed no AA on the native 1400x900 resolution at around 35-40fps. Everything from Windows 7 to all the power this thing has. It's got everything and at the price it cannot be beat. I couldn't find one gaming laptop with this kind of power and same size screen for the same price. I paid 1099.99 when it was on sale, and can't thank Newegg enough for a wonderful piece of hardware. So if your in the market for a great gaming laptop, this can do it.

1 out of 5 eggsDANGER Customer Service >0

Pros: Good price, nice features

Cons: Customer Service from gateway is useless. They put you in a mobius loop of dunces and then you start over with your complaint with a new person. No ne there seems empowered to act.
All I wanted was the free upgrade to Win7 my computer qualified for and they cannot handle the problem. They keep directing me to a web site that tells me I don't qualify after all the intro info sez I do......round and round. Save yourselfe the trouble. The lack of service can't be an accident. It is too huge.
