3 out of 5 eggsGood... for a while

Pros: It was a great laptop at first. All I did was go on the Internet. Now I play Minecraft, Portal, and Portal 2

Cons: Slowly the laptop started to fail. It doesn't last long. Performance and frame rates starting lowering, now I need a constant fan and it must always be plugged into power, it's not portable anymore.

Other Thoughts: Not worth the money. It's almost $600. You can get about twice the performance for that, even on a laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Nice looking laptop, good power, good graphics, decent battery life. The numeric keypad is a huge plus for me.

This is an excellent machine for the price. I bought one of these last winter for my sister and another in July for myself. Both times I wiped vista and installed xp. Drivers can be found easily by running a search on google.

Cons: There are no cons with this computer. The real con is the people that give this laptop a bad review for stupid reasons.

Of course it's going to run hot if you set it on a bed or a couch. Of course the battery won't last long if you're constantly running the disk drive. And of course your graphics and processor hogging games like wow are not going to perform as well on this computer because it's not a gaming machine.

It amazes me that people want to buy the cheapest laptop and then expect it to run programs that are designed for expensive machines. Then they cry about hoo hoo, I got fragged 'cause my computer sucks. Well, aint that a bite!

Other Thoughts: For people that want to do "work" on their computer, this machine is perfect. Surfing the web, emailing, sharing photos, watching DVDs, word processing and all other common tasks are a breeze on this machine. It also performs well for light gaming. I run diablo 2 with no problems and have a number of "match three" games installed that all run fine.

Like I said earlier, I wiped vista off this laptop as soon as it arrived. XP runs great and I'm confident that windows 7 would run well also. I'll be trying that when it comes out.

I would buy another one of these laptops in a second.

And, as always, Newegg is the best!

2 out of 5 eggsMediocre

Pros: I was able to install win7(64 bit) however drivers may be hard to find if you do decide to upgrade.

Cons: Has integrated graphics which shares memory with the RAM, you won't be playing many games (but EVE does work, decently). Sound card problems which sounds comes and goes.

Other Thoughts: If you're a performance junkie in general, this laptop is not so powerful.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat overall...couple of issues

Pros: Other than a few cons I'm very happy. Most laptops have foibles/tradeoff especially at this great price. I would still recommend this.

Price/perfomance is very good, and I really like the separate keypad which the wide screen allows. It still fits in a standard bag, barely.

I bought it for GPU horsepower edge over similar-priced units, which may explain some cons. I play WoW on it. It gets by on modest settings. At this price, and given it's a laptop, that's all anyone can reasonably expect. The expansions are much more power-hungry than the original game.

I think I like the fact that all the ports are on the sides. Yes, the wires might intrude on your mouse space in tight situations, but I didn't like the risk of connector damage that's hard to avoid on units with rear-mounted ports.

A bonus to side-mounted ports: the hinge is better than most.

I plug in the mouse on the left, not the right. Using 2+ USB ports takes a bit of extra mouse space. (1 left, 2 right USB p

Cons: 1) Overheating on soft surfaces - I often use this in bed. (yeah yeah, shut up.) Playing demanding games this way, it sometimes overheats and apparently throttles down (serious frame rate drop.) If that doesn't work it hibernates, which has happened 3-4 times in 6 months. The conditions were a real torture test: filtered sunlight on it, high ambient temp, on a bed.

I think a redesign of the air intake would help. The exhaust seems great, a finned vent wrapping around the bottom and back. But the intake(s) are just grill patterns cut in the case on the bottom, too far from the feet to be any good on soft surfaces.

2) Power pack is borderline for this CPU/GPU. Sometimes the status reads "plugged in, not charging." Thus it can't play WoW while it's charging the battery. (Not so big an issue as I thought at first.)

3) Reflective glass vs. frosted is a trade-off. The display is startlingly clearer and sharper...if angles are OK. Being reflected in a sunlit T-shirt makes it toug

Other Thoughts: I'd do it again. Maybe I'd go Intel next time.

All of my (decidedly mid-range) desktops have been AMD because I don't want to pay a lot more for the same horsepower. Example: Brisbane-range CPUs for double digits awhile back; Intel had nothing comparable even close to that price. However, Intel is clearly ahead in lowering power consumption.

Looking back at the cons, they are mostly related to power usage and thus heat. It seems like maybe they tried to shoehorn an AMD option into an Intel-based design.

So if I had do-overs, I might be inclined to go Intel...for the second time in my long life...and only because it's a laptop.

Oh... please ditch all the annoying trialware. There was a lot of other junk, but the one I remember is Norton. Three months free then 60 bucks, ANNUALLY, for Norton Antivirus was downright insulting...but it probably works on some people just because it's pre-installed. This shouldn't be legal! Don't be lazy, it'll cost ya! Weed that cr*p out!

5 out of 5 eggsHP/Compaq is killing Dell

Pros: Inexpensive, Good Graphics, Nice keyboard, Good Wireless Networking, Great Display, Acceptable Audio.

I get a 4.0 under Vista after upgrading the memory to 4GB for under $50.00, and it plays Half Life2, HL Episode 1 and 2, as well as Team Fortress just fine.

Cons: OK battery life, UMA Graphics makes Vista with 2GB RAM worse then XP with 512MB, upgrade to 4GB for the 1 Gig (32 bit OS) usable memory boost while retaing dual channel memory performance. HDMI would have been nice but this is a business class machine, so VGA it is. The HP installed utilities suck, remove all of the trial ware (including anti-virus) and install AVG or NOD32.

Other Thoughts: Get the refurb for $100.00 less and laugh at the people buying Dells that perform worse for $300 more.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's a cheap entry level laptop

Pros: Dual core processor, 2GB of DDR2 ram, somewhat large slow 250GB hard drive, nice 15.6" LCD screen and looks really nice.

*** see other thoughts ***

Cons: Vista that come loaded is a joke... My laptop was slower than my other P4 laptop that I had it for 4 years.

Battery life is weak.

Other Thoughts: I loaded Windows 7 RC and runs way faster than the Vista(I think 200% improvement).

2 out of 5 eggsVery solid

Pros: The best build construction and keyboard I have seen at this price point. It is rock solid. Zero chassis flex and barely any with the keyboard. The screen is nice and the overall hardware profile is good. AMD is really the way to go for a budget platform. Intel can't come close. The Athlon X2/8200M combo performs well.

Cons: HP.........OK, I really can't leave it there can I? HP product support is terrible, and I mean terrible. The HP custom software is even worse. Vista is a dog by default but is loaded with more garbage than any computer I have ever seen. HP does not support XP at all and I had major problems coming up with drivers. In fact, I am still working on it.

Other Thoughts: If you know what you are doing with Windows, this laptop defies expectations. Unfortunately, HP really drops the ball on this one and I do not recommend it despite a wonderful hardware profile and impressive build quality for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat computer for $369

Pros: Works great! i have not had any problems as of yet with this model I did upgrade the memory with 4 gig Kingston HyperX for $41 I got my laptop from best buy and used the $30 mail in rebate that Compaq still has going on. I cant believe that they are selling this system for so cheep it is good quality plays games good and does not have much lag on the big games. Has a 10key which is a plus and has a decent battery life.

Cons: None really Gets warm but they all do (if you don't like the heat get a desktop)

Other Thoughts: WOW so many people give this bad reviews for dumb reasons (dosent have this dosent have that) (wont do this wont do that) If you do your research you can get everything you want You bought this model you should know what it does and has in it before you buy it! If you don't then its your fault! what do you expect to get for a low priced laptop?
