so far so good, best bang for buck
- Pros: Powerful, have not rally tested it yet with any next gen games like bioshock, however it ran hl2 orange box on max settings with out a hitch, didnt even sound like the fans were working to hard. the card is DX10. Cool features that grow on you, like fingerprint website password autoenter device thingy, and great reception on wireless reciever. Lots of vents and they aRE on the sides, not on the bottom like my last laptop. (got blocked by my legs)
- Cons: Huge laptop, goofy giant cartoon soldier sticker at bottom of keyboard that I had to remove because I use my lapy at work. one of the Rubber feet came off at 2-3 months use, had to reglue it to bottom. All the cable/plug imputs are on the sides, none on back of laptop. This can be a con if you want the power chord or internet to plug on right side of laptop. They have to go around.
- Other Thoughts: Due to a limitation of vista 32bit version, 4 gigs of memory will only register as 3 gigs in your system. Microsofts fault not the laptops
Excellent Laptop
- Pros: Fast. All kinds of cool features. C2D + 8700GT goodness. Plays EQ2 and Vanguard without a hitch. Two hard drives. First H/D (Hitachi) is Hybrid with 320MB flash cache. Second is normal standard H/D (Toshiba). Built-in one Gig Intel Turbo memory dedicated to ReadyBoost. Upgradable to 4 Gig of RAM.
- Cons: May be "Big and Bulky" to some but it is perfect size for me. Other than that, none. I am used to tons of older laptops as well. It's pretty much ALITTLE thicker than standard 17inch notebooks.
- Other Thoughts: I bought two of same laptops. I am a head tech at a local computer store and I went through many many laptops and this is the best ones I've seen/used. Currently dual booting with Vista and Linux - best of both worlds. People complain way too much about Vista - I prefer to use Vista over XP. Of course it's gonna be little slower than previous O/S - Win95 is slower than Win3.1x, Win98 is slower than Win95, WinXP is slower than Win98. See the pattern? I could say the same thing with OSX. How much slower? Usually 1-5%. Not twice as slow as people would think. Vista is plenty fast enough on this laptop.
Nice machine for the price
- Pros: Good collection of "gee whiz" features, like built in cam, finger print reader, fair cpu speed, the 8700 graphics practically run any thing thrown at it. It can Run Linux Fedora Core 8
- Cons: cover is a finger print magnet, Toby, should have used a different style surface, battery life is short, even in low power mode. not enough memory for running latest round of games, toby used 2 x1 gig memory instead of 1 2 gig. did an imediate upgrade to 4 gig 800 mhz
games need to run in window mode, some incompatibility hides the cursor. Toby tech support is by far the worse yet, They need to out source the I.ndia team with a US based one. Even then I doubt it would help. I could barly understand John Smith with the heavy accent. And had to argue with them for 1 hour before being transfered to 2nd lever tier support.
Audio is great but only at low volume levels, Display is a bit to directional- Video is NOT Upgradable. Comes installed with VISTA, which is too much of a resource hog for machine, No XP support, No Drivers Disk
- Other Thoughts: Even though it has a hd dvd, you need to spend a 1000 more to get toby's free hd dvd offer, no serial, parallel or floppy ports
