4 out of 5 eggsso far so good, best bang for buck

Pros: Powerful, have not rally tested it yet with any next gen games like bioshock, however it ran hl2 orange box on max settings with out a hitch, didnt even sound like the fans were working to hard. the card is DX10. Cool features that grow on you, like fingerprint website password autoenter device thingy, and great reception on wireless reciever. Lots of vents and they aRE on the sides, not on the bottom like my last laptop. (got blocked by my legs)

Cons: Huge laptop, goofy giant cartoon soldier sticker at bottom of keyboard that I had to remove because I use my lapy at work. one of the Rubber feet came off at 2-3 months use, had to reglue it to bottom. All the cable/plug imputs are on the sides, none on back of laptop. This can be a con if you want the power chord or internet to plug on right side of laptop. They have to go around.

Other Thoughts: Due to a limitation of vista 32bit version, 4 gigs of memory will only register as 3 gigs in your system. Microsofts fault not the laptops

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Laptop

Pros: Fast. All kinds of cool features. C2D + 8700GT goodness. Plays EQ2 and Vanguard without a hitch. Two hard drives. First H/D (Hitachi) is Hybrid with 320MB flash cache. Second is normal standard H/D (Toshiba). Built-in one Gig Intel Turbo memory dedicated to ReadyBoost. Upgradable to 4 Gig of RAM.

Cons: May be "Big and Bulky" to some but it is perfect size for me. Other than that, none. I am used to tons of older laptops as well. It's pretty much ALITTLE thicker than standard 17inch notebooks.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of same laptops. I am a head tech at a local computer store and I went through many many laptops and this is the best ones I've seen/used. Currently dual booting with Vista and Linux - best of both worlds. People complain way too much about Vista - I prefer to use Vista over XP. Of course it's gonna be little slower than previous O/S - Win95 is slower than Win3.1x, Win98 is slower than Win95, WinXP is slower than Win98. See the pattern? I could say the same thing with OSX. How much slower? Usually 1-5%. Not twice as slow as people would think. Vista is plenty fast enough on this laptop.

4 out of 5 eggsNice machine for the price

Pros: Good collection of "gee whiz" features, like built in cam, finger print reader, fair cpu speed, the 8700 graphics practically run any thing thrown at it. It can Run Linux Fedora Core 8

Cons: cover is a finger print magnet, Toby, should have used a different style surface, battery life is short, even in low power mode. not enough memory for running latest round of games, toby used 2 x1 gig memory instead of 1 2 gig. did an imediate upgrade to 4 gig 800 mhz
games need to run in window mode, some incompatibility hides the cursor. Toby tech support is by far the worse yet, They need to out source the I.ndia team with a US based one. Even then I doubt it would help. I could barly understand John Smith with the heavy accent. And had to argue with them for 1 hour before being transfered to 2nd lever tier support.
Audio is great but only at low volume levels, Display is a bit to directional- Video is NOT Upgradable. Comes installed with VISTA, which is too much of a resource hog for machine, No XP support, No Drivers Disk

Other Thoughts: Even though it has a hd dvd, you need to spend a 1000 more to get toby's free hd dvd offer, no serial, parallel or floppy ports

5 out of 5 eggsPretty good desktop replacement

Pros: -Fairly quick chipset
-Very competent Graphics card
-Plenty of RAM
-Nice big screen
-Lots of neat Toshiba features
-Great price for the parts
-Lots of hard drive space
-Decent built-in speakers
-Fantastic desktop replacement, handles most games well for a laptop, plenty of power and speed for business and power users on the go.

Cons: -Lid scratches and dents easily (hand pressure)
-Some of the Toshiba software is more of a hassle than helpful
-Mediocre sound card
-Huge power brick
-Power Hungry

Other Thoughts: Great laptop for the money. Aside from some issues updating Vista, and clearing out bloatware, this is a very capable computer for gaming or business. The fingerprint reader is a nice touch. Seperate hard drives is nice also, in the event the master dies the slave drive, which I use for personal file storage, can be left in place. For all of its above par components the sound card was a little bit of a disappointment. However it does a decent job, and is capable of creating a Dolby Home Theatre output. There are also several audio and video output options and the memory card reader supports most card formats (important for the different cameras I use). The webcam combined with Skype is also beneficial for overseas videocalls. Once Vista Sp1 comes out and the next round of sound and video drivers I look forward to having a nice replacement for my desktop. As always, great service and quick shipping from Newegg.

4 out of 5 eggsBeautiful value

Pros: 1. Really good specs for the price & very feature rich
3. Finger print security.
4. 17" & 8700GT for under 2k
5. Can actually game on this

Cons: 1. Outside finish needs to burn in hell.. Looks beautiful, but is a finger print magnet.
3. Very reflective LCD
4. Cannot RAID the 2 hard drives.

Other Thoughts: I got mine with 1 stuck pixel. It really annoys the hell out of me. I cant believe toshiba loads soo much junk. Its like they are making tons of profit by making your notebook an AD center. I had to reinstall Windows. Do not use their windows disc to reinstall. It just puts all the junk back on. Get another disc and use the key stuck on the back. The LCD looks nice but is very reflective. And that HORRIBLE stuck pixel :E .. Now that the price is spiked, Id suggest getting the next model up since its just a hop skip and jump away. Always carry a cloth with you to clean it after u touch it.. Lame i know

4 out of 5 eggsWhy did price go up?

Pros: Seems a good deal...only before the price hike. Now it's $1599!

Cons: J&R just cut the x205-sli1 to $1699. With only $100 in difference, people now would have a hard time to want to buy this one.

5 out of 5 eggsGr8 deal

Pros: I have done a lot of research before I decided to buy this laptop. My main point was to be able to play new games on it and for the price that's the BEST deal you will find!!!
NEW EGG rocks!!

Cons: Screen angle is not the best but i can live with it.
I have not found any other problems with this machine.

Other Thoughts: Video driver needs to be updated with modified inf then it runs everything grea.
The CPU is on the low side (T7100)
but this problem can be solved by buying a new cpu T7700 which gives you a huge improvement, but you have to take the motherboard out so it lose the warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsBest laptop deal on earth (right now)

Pros: This laptop has it all, 2gb ram, 2x 120GB hdd (SATA), a banging GPU, full size keyboard, HD-DVD, Incredible sound, ample USB connectivity, media slots, HDMI, that is just the start.
Runs quiet, fast and looks good doing it. XP Slipstreaming was a breeze, you would have to be driftwood if you have a problem downgrading this laptop.

Cons: 5400RPM Drives
LCD Resolution
USB Port placement (needs to be located on back and sides closer to back)
this thing is THICK! Finding a good case is a hassle.
Shiny top, scratches easily.
Plasticy feeling Drive tray
No DVI interface (would be more useful than Sub-D 15 Analog port)

Other Thoughts: I looked at all the usual suspects when I went looking for a DTR PC, I would name them but the EGG blocks spelling their names. This has all the performance of an XPS for 1/3 of the price. Loaded with XP, this machine is a force to be reckoned with...

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Laptop

Pros: For $1500, I think this laptop is impossible to beat.

As far as performance is concerned, it's a powerhouse. I don't think any other laptops at even close to this price offer the 8700M, which is what really makes this thing great. It's a little light in the CPU department, but it's not going to stop you from doing anything current.

Peripherals are great as well. The screen is large and brilliant, the speakers are phenomenal, the keyboard is spacious, and its looks are stunning.

Cons: It's huge. If you're looking for something ultra portable that you can take anywhere with no hassle, this may be too big. The power supply unit is giant as well.

Other Thoughts: For all the power this thing packs, it doesn't get nearly as hot as you'd expect. The heat sinks seem really well designed, and the fans are surprisingly quiet.

On the whole, for $1500, I don't think you can come close to beating this.

5 out of 5 eggsVista Score 4.9

Pros: Boots fast, great performance, good looking red case, very happy to see a Vista Score of 4.9.

Cons: The processor is a bottleneck for gaming, but only when coupled with the awesome performance of the 8700m GT graphics.

Other Thoughts: This thing weighs a ton. I know it says how much it weighs in the product desription, but it is surprisingly heavy.
