So far so good, round 2
- Pros: So I wrote the "so far go sood review," then RMA'ed after some trouble with the first laptop, and now have had the second for three weeks. Overall, it's the laptop I wanted, and does not crash like the other one did, bonus. I've become pretty happy with it and would recommend it to others. For the money, the features can't be beat.
- Cons: This model did come with a few fabrication problems. The clamshell has no latch, never did, and this one clamshell's shut noticably less well than the last one did.
Also, the display has an issue, the bottom has a mild white glow, and even more annoying is about a centimeter above that, there is a very subtle band of darkness, as if some part of the case is exerting a pressure on the LCD screen. Definite fabrication issues going on at Toshiba.
- Other Thoughts: Overall, the flaw doesn't really seem worth another trip through RMA land. Although I tell you this, if you're going to buy this puppy, buy it through Newegg. As always, they'll take care of ya if something goes wrong.
Only other comment, the SSD is pretty low-end; I bought this model for the controller alone and will be swapping it out with a more capable SSD down the road.
Fixed random BSOD
- Pros: Big, beautiful and fast.
- Cons: I am not going to lug the baby around on trips, it is huge and heavy. I got rid of all the included software (Norton, Office 2007 trial, Works ...etc.)
- Other Thoughts: I am not sure whether it was the original driver or one from Windows Update that gave it the Blue Screen of Death and random slowdowns several times a day. But i eventually narrowed it down to the Nivida graphics driver and downloaded the latest one from the Toshiba support site.
Sick Sick Sick...
- Pros: I love my new Qosmio. The feel of the keyboard is great, and its not glossy like my other Toshiba notebook. The sound is amazing, keep in mind not very loud but it sounds sick especially for a notebook. I'm very happy with my Blu-Ray player =] works flawlessly when plugged into my 57" Sony. All the lights are just so sexy and luckily you can shut off that annoying beep in the bios for the touch media controlls. The eco setting works, I dont use it because I'm ALWAYS plugged in but it does do what its supposed to. I love having the button to shut off the touchpad I didnt on my old one. I havn't tried the webcam yet but I assume it works just like the other one did. The computer is extremely fast. With ALL of the same stuff installed as my Satellite it boots up about 18 seconds faster and after its booted up its ready to go. No waiting for all the stuff to actually load. The SSD probably contributes to this.
- Cons: My only real problem is that I paid nearly $2000 for this machine and it is only equipped with a 250m graphics card. I would have liked at least a 260. And I know I know, I could have gone with an ASUS or something that has better specs but I didnt want to. I have had many many products by Toshiba and never had a single problem and I HAVE had with most other products. You could probably say I'm just paying for the name, and its true. Toshiba has yet to give me a low quality product so untill then I'll keep giving them my money. =]
- Other Thoughts: This computer is just plain sexy. The definately didnt overdo the design like the previous models. They kept it simple. Maybe a couple more red lights though, gotta love em. =]
