1 out of 5 eggsToshiba Sattelite

Pros: Lightweight, low heat

Cons: Touch pad is faulty. Repeated calls to the Phillipines have been told it is software. Each time the touch pad works for a while then doesn't work. Logistics wireless mouse works fine. Now am told it is the touch pad but warrenty has expired and it is not covered even though they have records of the problem . DO NOT BUY ANY TOSIBIHA LAPTOPS...THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR FAULTY PRODUCTS.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 4Gb Ram
Video Card and CPU are decent, especially for price
Screen is fine
DVD Drive
Numpad is really nice to have
Dedicated volume wheel

Cons: Case is cheap, the AC Adapter inside the case broke off it's shell, had to open up the case and pop it back in place, still feels very flimsy.

5 out of 5 eggsCost effective and better than I thought

Pros: Got it for my son as he heads to college. So far it's been very reliable, powerful enough for him to do what he wants (music, movies, tv, Office, etc). It's large widescreen is great for viewing most things.

Cons: Just a little heavy but not really a bother.

Other Thoughts: Nice machine for the money! I'd definately get another if I had to do it over again.

4 out of 5 eggsGood laptop for the price

Pros: *Price- $400 and free shipping with shellshocker deals
*fast processor
*number pad-doesn't make a difference for me, but my wife loves it
*4GB of RAM
*15.6 hi-def screen

Cons: *Hard drive space- 250 gigs. Could be larger, but I'll deal.
*No HDMI port- not a deal breaker for more, but would have been nice
*No latches to lock the laptop closed
*Black gloss of the case leaves fingerprints
*touch pad is extremely sensitive and arguably too large. I often find myself accidentally zooming in/out because my left thumb is too close to it.
*No backup disks (although you can make your own)
*Runs hot- small fan on the left side, warms up rather quickly. I believe a laptop cooler is my next purchase.

Other Thoughts: It took longer to remove the computer from the box than it did to connect it to my wireless network. Ready to use right away, and I didn't have any problem with the software that comes preinstalled. Norton Antivirus was asking for additional details, but I ignored it and went about my business. Overall, good computer.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Every thing the add said it was, fast shipping. No problems yet. use it every day. I don't play games just surf & work with documents on it.

Cons: Speaker kind of suck, I did not buy it to use it as a stereo!

5 out of 5 eggsToshiba L505D-LS5010

Pros: Windows 7 with 64 bit OS
4gb ddr memory
full sized keyboard

Cons: no webcam
no 56k modem(not really a con)
Norton av
fan is a bit noisy and throws alot of heat out the side

Other Thoughts: Picked this up on sale here at Newegg for under four, shipped out quickly,I removed Norton immediately and installed AVG,the last tim.e I tried to remove Norton from a different pc,it was worse than any virus,so I'm done with Norton.Only had this a couple of hours, but is running fine and Windows 7 is not much differnent than Vista IMO.

3 out of 5 eggsAll good but for screen image jitter under Aero

Pros: --$430 price with free shipping (plus $70 for 2 yr. extended warranty) when I bought it in June from Newegg
--eSata/USB combined port. I use 1 TB external hard drives, and the eSata connection is much (3 to 4x?) faster than the USB 2.0
--built-in SDHC card reader, but this is pretty much std. now for laptops
--the AMD dual core processor is quite powerful, particularly for the low price.
--4 GB memory is a plus in such a low-cost laptop.

Cons: --BIG con: as reported on the internet for several brands of laptops including Satellites, screen images often jitter/shatter- seems to be related to 64-bit Win 7 problems and/or poor video drivers. The delivered driver is still the latest one available for this Satellite. Disabling Aero in Win 7 (moving to a Basic theme) eliminated the image jitter/shatter problem. I complained to Toshiba when they sent me a "How are you doing with your new Satellite, customer?" webmail--no reply so far. I was highly pleased with four previous Toshiba laptops and never had such problems, which means that Toshiba didn't test this model sufficiently before starting to sell it. I like this one, too, but it's significant that it does not support a feature touted for Win 7 (and Vista, earlier).
--Only 3 USB ports--last Satellite had 4. Workaround: powered USB hub.
--The keyboard touch is a tad light.
--The screen resolution is good, but I don't like wide nor glossy screens.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice if all USB ports on laptops were combined eSata/USB ports. I'm still getting used to Win 7 having made the jump directly from Win XP Pro.

5 out of 5 eggsworks well

Pros: does everything i want it for. it runs quick, did take me 30 mintutes to take off the bloatware. but some of the toshiba bloatware isnt that bad. nice eco-uitility, it nearly doubles battery life. i have found that two days on suspend will kill the battery. but it is "suspend" rather than shut down.
plays world of warcraft at 60 fps with medium settings with shadows off.
the screen is nice and bright except for when turned down to save power of course.
full sized keyboard, i cant stand the smaller ones due to big hands

Cons: speakers on it are very quiet, with everything in windows and the manual volume all the way up, its still quiet, like your average talking volume. but headphones can get pretty loud if you want them to. neither put out enough bass speakers have none and headphone out is definately less than my ipod or any of my desktops.
but didnt buy it for sound so no losing and egg for that.
i wish the keys on the keyboard were concaved, so that i could better feel where one key ends and the next begins, like a regular keyboard is.

Other Thoughts: i would rather have a hdmi or dvi output for video for quality. but i knew it didn't have it when i bought it.
i would like to replace the dvd drive with a bdrom drive but im not sure if you can. the drive doesnt seem to have a lock under it. and i pulled on it with medium force but didnt budge. one day ill find the time to look it up but may not be replaceable. could be bad if it dies.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Laptop, Great Price, Issues from the start

Pros: Great price for a decent laptop!

Cons: Bought two of these, both have had issues. 1 was DOA, which I sent back, RMA'd and got a new one that's working great. The 2nd has issues with the wireless network card (intermittent dropouts) which have yet to be resolved.
Don't expect any sort of support from Toshiba!
