Pros: Thin light fast

Cons: extremely hot. Battery life not nearly 8hrs. Got soo hot it wrecked the fan and had to send it to Toshiba.

1 out of 5 eggsHardware Radio Switch Issue

Pros: small, light, quad core processor

Cons: The "hardware radio switch" somehow turned off on its own, will not turn back on. pressing "Fn+F8" does absolutely nothing but yet all the other Fn+F keys work. On this particular model there is not a "physical hardware" switch. I have went to Toshiba's website and downloaded all the drivers they had for windows 7 & installed them. This did nothing. I did a system restore to day 1, the wireless started working again but now I could not uninstall or install any software. I did a system restore with the factory CDs, the "Fn+F8" now started working, loaded all my software, the "Fn+F8" was still working. A day later turned it on and the "Hardware Radio Switch" had turned off on its own and there is nothing I can do to turn it back on.

Other Thoughts: Called Toshiba tech support (Overseas) they kept telling me to turn on the wireless by hitting "Fn+F8" after repeatedly telling them it was not working. I told them the Hardware radio switch was off and would not turn on, they said they didn't know what this option was & would have to turn the case over to senior level tech and would call back in 24 hours, that was 4 days ago.
Save your money and patience & DO NOT BUY this laptop!!
The only reason I rated it a 1 was because I couldn't rate it any lower.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid combination of features

Pros: This is an excellent travel laptop.

It has one of the thinnest, most lightweight designs I've come across during my month long search for the beast. It comes with a super crisp LED back-lit display that blows away my 4 year old 21" LCD, has a powerful i3 processor for advanced photo and video editing and even features a nice internal DVD drive. (Which seems extraneous only until you actually need it.) Avatar in 720 looks ridiculously good on this machine.

The 4 gigs of ram and 500 gb hdd space are more than enough for anything you'll need to tackle at school, work or on the plane. The keyboard is solid, without the rubbery feel of cheaper laptops. The keys are spaced well with good feedback. As a plus, the web cam allows for 720p recording/video conferencing.

Cons: There are a few issues with the laptop, none of them serious.

The thing does get fairly hot in the upper left quadrant of the underside, generating more heat than is comfortable. Something between your leg and the device will probably be necessary.

Also, the battery life is somewhat understated - expect 4 to 5 hours on the 8 hour rated battery unless you're willing to tweak the display brightness down to the infrared specturm. No big deal, I'm probably going to buy a second battery for those red eye East Coast to West Coast flights, problem solved.

Last, the web cam is horrendous under low light conditions. Really, it's absolute junk.

Other Thoughts: The philosophy of use for anyone considering this laptop should be portability, productivity and performance. It won't play the latest and greatest games, jack you in with a million external ports or brew you coffee. What it WILL do is allow you to pack your office PC into the space of a legal pad so you can take it anywhere at a moment's notice.

There are trade offs to be sure, but overall this machine gets very close to what I would consider the perfect laptop. I'm confident I'll have it for the next 10 years, barring unforeseen mishaps.

3 out of 5 eggsmixed results

Pros: one of the lightest laptops around
cpu with 4 threads(2 cores) provide a very smooth experience
I can play old games like starcraft and warcraft 3 with no problems
youtube is butter smooth on HD
thin footprint
fingerprint reader
wifi with a/g/n(nice to have a, I use it at home)
lots of HDD space and 4GB of ram(3.82GB in win7 64-bit)
screen is clear although not the best of viewing angles.
DVD drive, not needed for me but a nice addition.
Win XP 32-bit downgrade(if thats your thing, win 7 pro is gorgeous)
tiny power supply

Cons: battery life is nowhere near the published time, more like 3.5 hours. This is disappointing for as it is a light weight laptop and is meant for working away from the plug.
Heat and this is a big one. Because you are rocking a non ULV processor, you trade heat generation for speed. The CPU is amazing for a laptop but the amount of heat it generates is absurd for a thin footprint laptop. Luckily the left and right palm rest remain relatively cool, however the top left(where the vent is) and top middle(ram) are on fire. Long exposure on your lap will burn you! If you will keep the laptop mostly on a flat table, you will have no problems. So expect to burn yourself if you will play graphic intensive games and somewhat when watching something graphic intensive.

Other Thoughts: I've had many laptops over the years and this one is ok for the price. I'd gladly trade the CPU for a ULV SU C2D for lesser heat generation.
Also, the laptop boots into recovery mode during first boot up to let you chose which version of win 7 to install. DO NOT RESTART THE PC or you will screw up the installation forever.
I also recommend installing a fresh copy of win7 with drivers from toshiba website. The win7 pro code on the bottom of the laptop will allow it(provided you have a win 7 pro installation dvd). At the time of this review, toshiba has no back up discs available for purchase. If you need to reinstall win7, either make recovery discs or install from the recovery partition.
