5 out of 5 eggs64-bit Vista Business makes it even better!!!

Pros: after reading the subsequent reviews to mine I tried installing vista business 64-bit (I don't have the option of getting Ultimate for free like i do with business). It took a few tries even considering my alleged expertise, and now i know that I recommend installing on a clean partition and being careful which drivers you install, but guess what....my wireless problem has disappeared, it sees 4.00 GB of RAM instead of 3.00, and Vista is a tighter, better looking OS (IMHO). Plus there's a lot of little cool surprises with Vista even tho i have been using it on other systems for a long time. I like it!

Cons: I still don't know which webcam driver to install, i guess i will go to the manufacturers website, because either the wrong fingerprint reader driver or the wrong webcam driver hosed my first Vista install and it would not boot, even in Safe Mode (ACER drivers listing a little hard to follow for me, an Aerospace Engineer, c'mon guys, make it simpler...). Vista found the correct fingerprint driver tho, but im kinda afraid to install it because of what happened before. Also, I'm not getting as much battery life as with XP, and i guess hibernating the computer isn't an option with Vista.

Other Thoughts: I guess I'll take some time and work all these issues out, maybe try and install ACER's little eMangagement console or whatever, but overall i'm pleased with the upgrade and i recommend doing it. Thanks for the recommendations...oh and Newegg is Rock and Roll!!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Awesome little laptop. I bought this as a travel alternative to my ginormous 17" gaming laptop. I slapped 4GB ram in it and it runs Vista 64 Ultimate crisp and smooth. I am able to play Eve Online standard graphics with no problems. Combat Arms is a bit sluggish but it's Intel on-board so you can't expect much in the way of gaming. Most laptops you see now have plastic lids, this one has a metal lid which I was impressed with. Having the wireless receptacle on top of the monitor makes for great connectivity. The 9-cell battery is a beast and I can play Eve unplugged from a power source for several hours. Even at 12", the keyboard is large enough to comfortably type on. I highly recommend this compact computer.

Cons: No eSATA port. No touchpad scroll feature.

Other Thoughts: Give this one a good look if you are looking for a lightweight and compact laptop that will play older games.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good for the price. Got this about half a year ago. Slapped in 4 gigs of memory and installed Vista Ultimate 64-Bit. Laptop's good for the price and with the updated drivers runs great. Haven't really used the Smart card slots since they've crashed my system, but will try later. Haven't had a need for the PCI slot either. Fingerprint reader works great, Dual Layer drive works great too, Wireless is strong and fast. Overall it runs 64-Bit Ultimate great. Can run most games on it. Well worth the price. Components are easily replaceable. (Spilled water on keyboard, it stopped working due to the way I handed the situation, but was able to replace the keyboard via e bay auction.)

Cons: (Not a super system...only had 128 video memory, no blue ray drive...haha, that's asking for too much.)

My little peeve about this is that it didn't have a CrystalBrite screen, though TFT may be better for this system.

Other Thoughts: Using CrystalBrite in the past, I've notice dead pixels and appearance of what spots over time. TFT may actually be better at this point. Could just be Acer's CrystalBrite. technology. TFT serves to be better for this case if you can just get used to it. Will

5 out of 5 eggsSomewhat cool

Pros: hey this thing won the Government Computer News's Reviewers choice award. It benched higher than 7 other ultra-portables, and it was the cheapest of the group by far! Plus 7 hour battery life??? Plus XP instead of Vista? Plus the screen is smaller but so are the pixels so you get plenty of viewable? Plus it's an ACER my favorite laptop brand? Plus Newegg got it to me in less than 48 hours and i ordered it on labor day? What can i say, i don't think you can go wrong with this system..

Cons: something funny about the wireless driver i guess??? wouldn't do WPA2 and then my internet kept dying a few times after i changed it back to WPA. uninstalled Norton and it seems to be working better now. made a funny noise when plugged in and running at home but didn't at work the next day, must be the cheap power strip i got at "unnamed retail store" ($10)

Other Thoughts: dude this thing is just so fat, i might install a clean version of XP at some point but i'm loathe to install all the drivers that may be needed to run everything. so i'll probabvly leave it for now. I could put Vista on it but why??? (i love vista tho, ihav eit on two systems) i can carry it all the way from my car to my office in my hand no problem with the power supply in my back pocket, it's still lightweight at 4.7 lbs. also i can do web 2.0 lyin in bed with the laptop balanced on my chest for a long time compared to my "other laptop", it's so light it actually quite comfortable like that.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It has a very sleek look to it. It has a small footprint. It's not completely loaded with a bunch of worthless 3rd party software (don't get me wrong, I did remove a couple but not as much as I had to with my Compaq/HP when I bought that). The battery shows a lifetime of around 5 hours. Haven't drained it yet but I hope to soon.

Cons: It's a little hefty for such a small footprint (I was expecting something a little lighter). Having to update XP to sp3 was a bit of an annoyance.

1 out of 5 eggsvery unhappy

Pros: Thought i had purchased a updated NEW puter and it was not. Company says it is NEW and i purchased it july 2008 and it was sent from the factory to newegg november 2007. Has windowsXP and not the new version i assumed would come with a new puter...which is windows Vista.

Cons: Company says all they will do is send another puter to me and take this one back. WTH????? Company wants to argue that it is a new puter, technically i guess it is...and if they had sent me a puter that was 5 yrs old, never opened, that would be NEW also, but is in NO WAY HONEST or ETHICAL !!!!

Other Thoughts: Buyer beware if your are buying electronics....purchase at your own RISK!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Notebook

Pros: Small, durable, nice keyboard layout, incredible battery life (up to 6+ hours), good value for money, lightweight

Cons: Sound isn't very loud at maximum volume

Other Thoughts: This laptop has been GREAT for business travel. It is durable, very portable, and the battery life is the best of any laptop I've owned. I was a little hesitant about buying an Acer versus some of the more popular brands, but I'd buy one again in a heartbeat. I might make a few minor tweaks (i.e., louder volume output) if I could, but in general I'm really impressed with the overall quality. Look no further than this little TravelMate!

4 out of 5 eggsNice without bells and whistles

Pros: I like the way it is laidout and the materal it is made of. Metal with the granit looking finish. Strong and attractive.
This laptop has the best camera I have ever seen and I have 6 cameras. Battery last about four hours. Nice clear screen no glare. Everything seems to be in the right place

Cons: Acer software. Partitioned harddrive. Needed bios updated and had to send it to repair depot at my own expense. Would not shut down.

Other Thoughts: Anytime you purchase an Acer Product you should call support and ask for restore disc right away. I think you have 30days from the date of purchase to get them free. Using restore disc eliminates the HD patition and alows you to take Acer's baggage off except wireless software.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Laptop

Pros: Disclaimer: I am an Acer employee. This is, however, an unbiased review. IMHO, this is the best Laptop Acer makes right now. It's compact, powerful, and well built. Comes with 1x 1GB Ram, so easily upgraded to 2. Integrated Bluetooth and Wireless-N is nice.

Cons: Under the standard warranty, you will have to pay the shipping if this needs to go in for repair. They will also stick you for the slightest sign of abuse or customer-induced damage. Be careful with it. The screen can be a little small, depending on what you're using it for. Take that into consideration before you buy it.

Other Thoughts: Acer offeres a "Total Notebook Protection" warranty which is well worth the money. It will cover any unintentional damages; cracked screens, liquid spills, run it over with your car, drop it in the lake, it doesn't matter, it's all covered. It also extends the warranty to 3 years. Well worth the investment, if you ask me.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty solid all around...

Pros: I've purchased a couple laptops for employees and am very familiar with overall hardware and software that comes with laptops. Acer does a pretty nice job with both on this model!

This laptop is really good for traveling as it's pretty small and light yet full of features and intuitive design. The hard drive comes with 2 partitions, one for the OS and one for data, each are the same size at around 58.1 GB.

Cons: One of the plastic locking sliders on the bottom of the laptop has broken off...I believe it is for locking and unlocking the DVD drive. I'm going to try some super glue on it but it doesn't look promising so I might have to live with it.

Other Thoughts: I laughed at the other poster that says "50 GB was wasted". He's a newb user imho.
