4 out of 5 eggsWas Worth it

Pros: Great computer for price, runs everything I need it to.

Cons: Randomly clicks mouse by itself. HD-DVD is no longer worth while. Could use more RAM

Other Thoughts: I bought this computer because it was the best for it's price range. The HDDVD wars are over and the HD-DVD lost so it is kind of pointless to have one. After a month or so it developed a wierd habit of clicking it's own mouse every few minutes.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat semi pro laptop with some minor flaws

Pros: Great laptop, runs WOW at 30-40fps when I'm in big major cities, bright crystal screen, Nvidia 8400m video card is smooth and fast. runs BioShock at med-hi setting. Has DVI and digital optical output, you need a adapter on optical cable though, I looked up with my hdtv and digital sound, with the build in software..upconverts dvd and plays HD DVD. Very NICE!

Cons: mouse touch pad is very annoying while you are typing, it's got a big surface which you will easily move the cursor, you have to disable and use a usb mouse. Only plays certain HD-DVD, so be aware, even if you updated, still can't.

Other Thoughts: I got this while it's on a great deal at it's spec. Over all I'm satisfied.. GET IT !

5 out of 5 eggsFor a linux laptop this thing kills

Pros: great graphics card, very nice screen, lightweight (both the computer and the power supply), nice dual core processor. 250 GIG harddrive! And it really is 250 gigs. 1 gig of memory is fine for linux, but now that I have all my eyecandy turned on I will probably need another stick.

Cons: battery life is a little on the small side, but that may just be linux sucking it dry...I know gnome has some power management issues. The touchpad isn't bad, but it isnt good either. CD-DVD drive is decent but seems a bit cheap. Had to hack to get the sound card to finally work, but I blame linux for that.

Other Thoughts: This is an amazing computer if you want a laptop that can run linux and all its little eyecandy stuff. I have ubuntu 7.10 installed, which has Compiz integrated into Gnome from the start. Download emerald and you are in business. I would reccomend this to anyone looking for a linux laptop. This saves me from ever having to use my school's terrible computers to do programming and whatever else on. I installed vmware and have an XP box running on that just in case I ever need anything from windows (which I highly doubt).

3 out of 5 eggsNot so great

Pros: The screen is great, I love the DVI out. Got it on the cheap. It's a Santa Rosa platform, so perhaps I can upgrade the processor in the future.

Cons: The HD-DVD drive played the demo disk for about 10 minutes, then it died. It wouldn't play the demo again - it would just make seeking noises and never recognize the disk. But Jet-Li's Fearless worked fine. Got another one, Sahara, and it did not recognize that disk either (made bunch of whirring, clicking noises though). It does play other DVDs, and I don't want to bother with any warrantee since HD-DVD is no longer produced anyway.

Other Thoughts: Acer doesn't really have a good support site - I thought a firmware upgrade might fix the HD-DVD prob, but they don't have firmware for the HD-DVD drive available, and any links to it on other sites are broken now.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Read Below

Cons: Read Below

Other Thoughts: Acer has some of the worst tech support I have ever dealt with. I was told by the representative to "call Radio shack or whoever sells the laptops" to ask questions about the products. Radio shack does not even sell laptops! Haha. Watch out!

4 out of 5 eggsfor the mone

Pros: For the pirce i paid for it,, nice overall value for a low-middle end system. added 4gig of ram and actually runs quite well

Cons: keyboard and case are "cheapish" feeling. shift key feels like it half broke as shipped. I do use an external keyboard so not a big problem. touchpad is highly sensitive.

Other Thoughts: for the price, i wasnt expecting any glorious but i do feel the keyboard could have a better feel to it. but is a computer i bought that if something happens to it in Iraq, not much loss.

2 out of 5 eggsAchilles Heel

Pros: Posted the good stuff previously.

Cons: I won't complain about the fact that the HD-DVD drive not being able to play HD-DVD's. These things happen and it's pretty new technology. I won't even complain about the fact that it's nearly impossible to find a phone number for ACER. But I will complain about weeks of misinforming me that I need to wait for a part list before they can send me a replacement drive. Then, after my 30 days with newegg run out, I find out that they won't do part upgrades for the Aspire. I have to pack it up and ship it to them. They have a 7 to 10 day turn around. I'm probably looking at 4 weeks round trip when I could have used newegg to get it in 1 at most. They led me along by the nose and then dropped the bomb after 5 weeks. Laptops are notoriously proprietary so you pretty much have to live with vendor support. Next time I won't be looking to Acer.

Other Thoughts: Acer wouldn't even pay for shipping after jerking me around.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Laptop

Pros: Awesome laptop. Plays all my games just fine with little or no lag, great built in camera/microphone, all the ports are great, and it's such an insane upgrade from my older HP laptop. I love this thing.

Cons: Needs 2+ GB of memory or Windows XP.

Also, if I'm in a game and try using the switch on the side to turn the volume up, it doesn't work. No biggy , though. Just turn your volume up before starting the game.

Other Thoughts: I'd most definitely recommend this laptop to others.

5 out of 5 eggsAcers are pretty solid machines

Pros: This is the 4th Acer Laptop ordered from newegg. Computer is fast although Vista slows it down a little not the CPU's problem Vista needs work. HDDVD & Video card are a plus. Will send HD to HDTV. Camera good too. Acer makes solid laptops just as solid as many of the other top brands. Good price for the product. They also offer very cheap warranties I recommend purchasing.

Cons: Very hard to remove the bottom cover to add ram. This is definitely to keep cost down. No Bluetooth.

Other Thoughts: Acer makes very good lappy's. I have bought four with no problems so far. Acer is getting better at drivers with popularity so Dropping down to XP from Vista shouldn't be a problem. The drivers are on their site. Highly recommend this box...

5 out of 5 eggsNice laptop

Pros: Very nice balance of equipment components. My son can run games on it, watch movies, and do his schoolwork. Nice display. Nice case. Newegg pricing and shipping rocks!

Cons: Needs 2gb of memory and there is very very little online to tell you what you need. The Acer phone support number is very difficult to find. Try google. A little tricky to snap out the bottom cover to put the memory in.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 1GB sticks from newegg because I thought that had to be in pairs, but I should have bought 1 2GB stick so I could use it with one of the included 512s.
