Nice laptop.
- Pros: Well designed, sturdy, great 15.4 inch LCD, solid keyboard, 4 usb ports and wifi. Great price.
- Cons: Track pad is a bit tricky to operate but you get used to it. Memory needs to be upgraded since 1 gig is not enough.
- Other Thoughts: Bought this as a christmas present for my son. It is perfect for web surfing and office applications like word. The graphics are reasonably fast and after I upgraded the ram to 4 gig the overall speeds increased nicely. Vista runs well on this machine and my son likes the computer.
Great Buy
- Pros: Very good value (was $399 when I bought it)
Hardware seems quite responsive (on XP)
Better screen than I was expecting for the money
Better video card than I was expecting for the money
- Cons: Touchpad is horribly unresponsive on Vista. I didn't poke around to try to figure out if this was a driver problem, or just an artifact of the fact that 1GB of RAM isn't enough for Vista, but it was very noticeable - the worst was that the mouse would occasionally click when hovering over something!
Getting my hands on Windows XP drivers wasn't easy, it took a fair amount of digging around, but was *completely* worth it. Vista is, in a word, terrible.
- Other Thoughts: I wish it were easier to find XP drivers on this, but since Acer has never officially supported XP on this model (to the best of my knowledge), it's not shocking that it takes a bit of googling. All in all, this was a very good buy.
If you don't intend to upgrade to XP, you should definitely invest in more than 1GB of memory, though...
Great Budget Laptop
- Pros: Excellent graphics and runs quiet and cool. Vista 32 bit OS works well when upgrading memory to 4 gb. DVD Burner and wireless connectivity are both excellent. 4 USB ports, firewire port, media reader are nice touches.
- Cons: As stated by many others, the touchpad is the only weakness on this laptop.....not a problem if using a wireless keyboard and mouse.
- Other Thoughts: Be careful and gentle when removing bottom cover to add memory. It is a bit of a challenge but gradually work your way around the edges and it will eventually get free.
