The Acer Aspire AS7720-6844 lets you truly break free from your desktop system. The Core 2 Duo processor runs at 1.66GHz and there is 2GB of DDR2 memory to back it up. Storage is handled by a large 250GB hard drive and a HD DVD-ROM/DVD Super Multi drive.
When you aren't backing up files on the DVD burner you can play HD movies on the 17" CrystalBrite widescreen. The DirectX 10 capable GeForce 8400M GS GPU has 256MB of dedicated memory so you can run all of the advanced features in your operating system and games.
Keeping in touch is important; you get support for 802.11a/b/g/draft-N wireless communication. This lets you communicate just about anywhere at maximum available local speeds. When you're at home or at a hotel you can go wired with the Gigabit Ethernet connection. You can also add cellular broadband with a card inserted into the ExpressCard/54 slot.

- Pros: Video card, RAM, and CPU are all great. I play World of Warcraft and get around 30fps average (obviously varies above and below 30). Speakers are pretty good (even has a small sub-woofer). Keyboard layout is great, i really like having the numbers on the right. Play's DVD movies good. Like another reviewer stated, the resolution is actually 1440 x 900. Stays cool while I play WOW which was one of my worries. Webcam works great.
- Cons: HD-DVD is dead, but i wasn't looking for anything above DVD anyways. I haven't tried burning a DVD/CD yet but I'm sure that it works fine. Touchpad is a little sketchy every once in awhile but nothing major. For some reasons I didn't get a Vista recovery disc. I was expecting 250GB on one hard drive, but instead got 2 110GB hard drives-not a big problem though.
- Other Thoughts: Overall, a pretty good purchase. If I could go back I would probably get a 15" but that's nobody's fault but mine. Newegg service was great as usual.

- Pros: Decent CPU. Good amount of ram and hard drive space for the price. Integrated webcam has surprisingly good quality.
The screen is actually 1440x900, not 1280x800 like newegg says. 1280x800 would be terrible at 17", so the higher res is nice.
- Cons: The GeForce 8400m GS is much better than integrated, but still rather low-end for any sort of serious gaming. It can run valve source games well at high quality, but don't even try installing crysis on it.
HD DVD is a dead format, although the drive does work fine for normal DVD usage. The optical drive is pretty loud when in use.
No drivers exist for the video card in XP. I tried putting XP, but couldn't find any video drivers. I had to switch back to Vista.

TOO OLD. very low res for 17"
- Pros: ok cpu, mem, video
- Cons: 17" screen but only WXGA (1280x800)! no way.
