Acer's AS5520-5891 notebook computer harnesses the advanced technology of the AMD Mobile Athlon 64 X2 processor running at 1.9GHz to deliver powerful but energy efficient computing experience. The CPU is backed up by a whopping 3GB of memory and a 160GB hard drive.
Power is useless without the ability to see it in action. Thus, the 15.4" WXGA screen powered by an NVIDIA GeForce 7000M GPU. The screen resolution of 1280x800 lets you watch video in 720p High Definition. A DVD Super Multi drive lets you play DVDs and CDs. You can also use it to back up your system.
Keeping in touch is important; there's support for 802.11b/g wireless communication. When you're at home or at a hotel you can go wired with the Gigabit Ethernet connection. If all you’ve got is a phone line you can also use the 56k modem to dial out. ACer + Athlon gives you all you need!

Great laptop
- Pros: The features on this laptop are great. The graphics aren't spectacular, but they are good enough to handle most simple games. I was able to play Half-life and Counter-Strike no problem. The 160 gb of space are nice too along with the DVD burner. Battery life is about 2 hours when doing heavy work/watching video.
- Cons: Its BIG. The laptop definitely does not have a small form-factor, but considering the value of what you are getting, thats a fair trade off.
- Other Thoughts: I actually bought this from another store for the same price, but its the same model. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a mobile workstation or replacement for the family desktop computer.
Guess I grabbed the last one
- Pros: Graphics unit will get you up and running in games like “World of Warcraft” and “Team Fortress 2", Vista and XP drivers were available online to get this running again, volume control wheel on the left side near front, decent sized keyboard with primary keys such as backslash, enter, and right shift being full in size rather than misplaced and truncated, once I accidentally destroyed Vista - getting Windows XP Pro on here was a breeze! If using the Vista that comes with, you’ll have some junk stuff to uninstall and disable to free up resources, has a Windows key button (one laptop I had didn’t), price went down $50 after I bought it this week, two USB ports on left and right sides (depending if you’re a lefty mouse or righty mouse user), fan runs quietly and heat levels are low. Battery charges fast, about 2 hours of life on full. Runs great with XP!
- Cons: Touch pad area is large and seems to be very sensitive. My standard typing triggers the touchpad and have resorted to using the foam pad that comes with it to cover touch pad while I type. Default Vista eats up about a third of processor and memory and does not respond well when I type, disk to disk recovery does not activate for myself - no recovery CD, mute is a two button process, cheap onboard soundcard has difficulty with Sonar 7, touch pad kinda hurts my fingers, size prohibits use on plane (unless 1st class or no one is next to you), locking latch not thumb friendly - use your nails if you have them.
- Other Thoughts: Not a high-end gaming laptop, but suffices for programming with Visual Studio and for use with Sonar. Murphy’s law when setting up XP unrelated to the laptop itself. Will probably need an Express soundcard to complete the deal. Still do not like the sensitive touchpad, but after getting XP on this, I’m loving this laptop. Touchpad, latch lock, and no working recovery options prevent me from giving a 5.

good pc, bad touchpad
- Pros: Overall it's a good PC. THe screen is brighter than my old acer. It's lighter and does not get hot, just a little warm spot in the corner of the case. Long battery life. Plenty of features to do what I need.
- Cons: This touchpad absolutely stinks. So sensitive it opens links just when you swipe across it. I've looked for sensitivity settings on the touchpad settings, so far I haven't seen anything. If there's no adjustment, there's no excuse for that.
Also, my first experience with Vista. I'm not impressed. Had to reboot to get the IE to work right. May need to find a license for XP
Worth the price and more
- Pros: Excellent Laptop. Actually bought it when newegg had a discount (I thought "hey, what the heck") and I never regretted it. Plenty of RAM to get you through the day and the kkeyboard feels nice when you type on it.
- Cons: Mousepad is incredibly sensitive! also comes mounted with Windows Vista (ugh, out the box vista had the computer running at 100% capacity.)
- Other Thoughts: While it is possible to get XP on it, it does take a bit of work scrounging the net for the video drivers. (nVIDIA didnt have them readily available as of 03/2008) The mousepad is really the only reason it did not get a 5 but attaching a mouse can prevent this problem. All-in-all, excellent investment.
Great Laptop
- Pros: Nice little laptop with plenty of ports for additional peripherals. Very fast machine. Nice looking case. The Vista Home Premium does what it should. Some users might not like Vista, but I've been using it for well over a year on my desk top with no problems. It's a matter of getting used to it. All in all, a great laptop for the buck.
- Cons: Can't stand the mouse pad. Way too touchy. I think you can adjust it somewhat, but I find it a lot easier to just shut it down and order a wireless mouse from New Egg. There is a lot of the usual pre-installed useless bloatware to delete, but that was expected when I ordered it.
- Other Thoughts: I like the way Acer set this up with the exception of the mouse pad. It would have been really great if they had used a little track ball instead, but for the bucks still hard to beat. I would and already have recommended to a friend.
