Great Laptop!
- Pros: Great video card and CPU. I run World of Warcraft at max settings at max framerates nearly all the time. It's better than my MSI 8600GT video card. WoW is a bit outdated graphically, so I don't expect it to run all games so well, but it's still nice. CSS runs at max settings at 50+ FPS as well. I'm usually at a temp of about 70C. Two hard drives, fast CPU, awesome amount of RAM and a number pad - a must for most gamers. This is about the best laptop for the money. Get it before the price goes up.
- Cons: Like others have mentioned, the screen will not wake up. This is a very minor problem though because the unit has a screen on/off function button to easily turn the screen back on. I imagine Acer will have a fix for this sometime too. Don't let it deter you. This is the only issue and it's negligible.
- Other Thoughts: I was hesitant to buy this product because my initial budget was $750-1000; however, I am very VERY satisfied. I recommend it 100 percent.
Great Laptop, Great Price
- Pros: The price is good, I really like the construction, the screen is very large for a laptop and looks awesome when viewing movies and games, comes with 3 GB ram which is a necessity for Vista Ultimate x64. The layout on the keyboard is very functional. I can hardly get my wife off of it, as she enjoys playing WoW wireless in the living room while watching our son. For the price you can't go wrong in my opinion.
- Cons: Windows Vista Ultimate x64 is really, really bulky and slow. WoW plays 'okay' but CoD4 online is choppy with anything other than low-midrange settings due to the OS hogging all the ram and processor. The ram is single channel so for gaming you'll immediately want / need a Dual Channel kit installed just to speed things up a bit. Also, load times are depressing when loading large programs due to 1.) Vista Ultimate 64-bit and 2.) Only a 5400 RPM hard drive & 3.) Single Channel Ram. Some here were saying this lapper comes with 2 HDDs but it don't...it comes with 1 AHCI mode SATA hard drive split into 2 visible partitions and 1 hidden partition. That's not really a pro or a con. The touch pad is too far over to the left and I really can't figure out why they put it there but it's not anything too serious.
- Other Thoughts: You CANNOT reliably run this machine in Windows XP because no official drivers exists for the 8600M GT that's installed. That's just odd considering that the Acer website has a full list of downloadable drivers for all of the other hardware in this laptop for Windows XP. I got it to 'work' in XP Pro by installing desktop forceware and modding the .inf files...but the performance was very spotty even when playing non-resource-dependent games. The sound drivers for windows XP caused a lot of grief in WoW and CoD4...causing fuzziness and crackling as well as causing the games to sputter so bad you couldn't even play 85% of the time. Your best bet for this machine to perform well is to purchase some dual channel ddr2-667 with the lowest CAS rating you can find, pop in a 7200 RPM hard drive, and install Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. That would seriously improve your performance when gaming or doing anything that requires a lot of system resources.

Caveat Emptor
- Pros: Cheap
- Cons: I should warn you that I tried to get an older Acer repaired today, and they have a flat fee for out-of-warrenty repairs: $450. It would be cheaper for me to send it to Taiwan to be repaired. Caveat Emptor.
Best bang for the $
- Pros: 17 inch screen at low price, plenty of ram and HD space with a good dual core intel processor. If you're wanting to pull the trigger on a good laptop, this is the one!
- Cons: touchpad slightly off center (but perhaps this allows people who like to use a usb wireless micro-mouse to use the right side of the keyboard area as a mousepad too...
- Other Thoughts: I was a bit hesitant to purchase an acer laptop, but im glad I did. This baby is fast enough to play most 3-d video games (not crysis - but try for less than 1200.00 do you expect to?). performs perfectly, no complaints at all
Good Buy
- Pros: This is a great machine and the price is unmatched. I put it to the test the fist week I owned it and I was not dissapointed. It runs great, looks great and has an excellent layout. The video card is awsome, the battery life is strong and it stays very cool for a machine of its size and power.
- Cons: It comes with A LOT of Acer garbage installed on it. I was also not impressed with how the hard drive is formatted.
- Other Thoughts: The sound on the laptop is nothing to write home about. It is on the quit side and when you turn it up you start to get some distortion. It isn't bad but I have heard a lot better come out of laptops before.
